They switched to a fake tree because of all the electronics/lights for the special snowing effect during the Castle lighting. Also the tree is actually in 2 sections so they can get it down Main Street when it's installed. - Coaster

@DSMonson - center of the property is even further more forward then the Castle. That parking lot is all Disney property. Center of property is probably where the Esplande is now. - Coaster
