When my son was 8 (he is now 15) we took him to DLR. We got him a little black notebook for autographs. Definitely check into section 8 housing as soon as you can. Most towns (not sure where you live) in CA, at least, have a community action organization. They tend to move much faster than the government when it comes to immediate needs such as clothing, food, and shelter. They also typically have a contact that can put you in touch with a welfare agent. Disability can take a very long time, and most claims are denied (mine was). Fight for it!!! It's worth it. Also, check with your local edd to see if they have any programs for putting people with a disability to work. There was a program near me where the govt. Would pay the first 6 months salary as well as tax incentives. I do feel your pain, and will be praying hard for you. I'm very sorry to hear that you are going through hard times. I was unemployed for the past 6 months, and believe me I know how hard it is to find a job right now. Dear Baby1218--I know exactly how you feel about letting your child down. My husband was out of a job for almost a year back in 2001. We struggled to stay afloat but we let our kids know what was going on. (We even had to cancel our visit to Disneyland that year and didn't make it back again until 2006. )At the time they were 11, 9 and 3. They were amazing and even though we couldn't do all the fun things we had wanted, we were together. I believe we learned about sacrifice and love for one another. We are a close family now and our kids are very kind and considerate of others. They know what it is like to go without and they are very thankful for what they have.
