Good morning! This day in Disney history, Oct 3rd, 1955. Disney's 2nd TV series, "The Mickey Mouse Club" is launched on ABC. It's a daily series featuring the talents of 24 kids known as the Mouseketeers (though over the next 4 years the show will have a regular but ever-changing cast of preteens). The show airs during the late afternoon/pre-dinner hour, primarily aimed @ a pre-teen audience. (The Mouseketeers have already made their first TV appearance on the ABC broadcast of Disneyland's opening in July 1955.) Who knows the words of their theme song? For a clip of a few of the original Mouseketeers: http://is.gd/FocPv8 to make the link "clickable" on the app version of MW click "detail" on the bottom of this post.

I used to watch the reruns when I was little. I was addicted! Somehow I heard that they were going to come up with a new MMclub, and needed new Mouseketeers. I remember hiding in my parents room , with the phone book. Trying to look up "Mickey Mouse Club". I was going to call them to tell them To them that I would like to be a Mousketeer. I was so young, and the whole process was frustrating. 😔 Thanks for the post! - 7mouskedoodles  161.1 #2137 1:16PM
The memories are flooding back!! I watched it during the rerun period ('62-65?). I would ride my bike down to the corner grocery (now a dentist office!) and grab a coke and bag of Fritos then hurry home. The snacks were for sustenance as I would sing and dance along with them. I loved all the series, but my favorite was "Annette"....I would pretend to be her friend "Jet" because she had a horse. In later years, our tap class would re-create the tap numbers they did on the show. I always wanted to be a Mouseketeer, but I was either too young or too old! - Gia  785.4 #121 3:20PM

I think Annette and Cubby :) - mrscttlemstr  236.9 #1144 12:35PM
❤Cubby❤ Boy, they had to know how to sing, dance, and act. Funny that the girls wore dresses and pinafores and they boys were dressed up with lil jackets. Nice that they went lax and got into more comfy shirts :). Thanks, Duchess! - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  1798.6 #42 11:55AM
I loved the way they are dressed in the pic below. If only little girls shirts were as long as these. I can't stand the booty shots and short skirts that are popular today. 😒 - Duchess_SMK  3285.0 #11 12:33PM

Fun fact. My dad and his cousin used to drive Annette Funicello to the studio. He also took her to a high school football game at N. Hollywood high because she said she had never been to one and wanted to go. - SueBayou  2012.0 #34 12:07PM
No way?!! 😱😳 how cool! How did the whole driving her to the studio come about? - Duchess_SMK  3285.0 #11 1:52PM
Annette was related to a guy that was in my parents car club when I was a kid. We used to see her at his Xmas party every year. I would play with her son who was a little older than me. - ScooterMike  1959.8 #35 12:14PM
Shut the front door! What a neat memory! You wouldn't happen to have any of your awesome retro pics of this by chance do you? - Duchess_SMK  3285.0 #11 1:53PM
