This day in Disney history, Sep 8th, 1998. Disneyland's Submarine Voyage attraction closes. Starting in June 1959, the eight submarines: Nautilus, Triton, Sea Wolf, Skate, Skipjack, George Washington, Patrick Henry, and Ethan Allen took 38 Disneyland guests at a time to the "North Pole." The only change to the attraction came in the mid-1980s, when the Cold War gray submarines were repainted yellow. Do you remember this attraction? I miss the old Submarine Voyage with they grey subs. As a kid it was so cool to be able to go underwater in a sub. -

This was one of the only attractions I remember riding at Disneyland when I was very little. I wish i could experience it now. -

Thanks for posting! My mom used to tell me about the mermaids, and I always wished I could have seen them. I don't remember much about what they were like before Nemo, maybe because they weren't our favorite! -

Thanks Dutchess, and it was great meeting you today. Oh yes, I remember it well. I did not like when they renamed and painted them.I do remember the live mermaids,I have 8mm movies of them on VHS. And my uncles best friend when they were in the navy home on leave from their ship in Long Beach, jumped in and swam out to the mermaids. He was drunk, arrested and handed over to the shore patrol and taken back to his ship and was greeted as a hero. -

Yes, I remember. Thanks for posting this! How long was it closed? Did it only reopen as the current Nemo ride? It must have been down for several years then. -

Of course I remember these! I liked it as a child, but as I got older, I liked it less and less as it started to feel claustrophic! One thing I don't remember is the live mermaids! But I was thrilled when I could see the fake ones! -

I use to work with a lady who was one of the mermaids. I loved hearing all her stories about working there and seeing her face light up. -
