Good morning! This day in Disney history, Sep 2nd, 1979. The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction opens. Imagineer Tony Baxter (pictured below) modeled the "wildest ride in the wilderness" attraction after the scenery of Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. Do you enjoy this attraction, and why? I remember what a big deal it was when it first opened. They had long lines similar to the first days of Cars Land. I also remember they kept the "E-Ticket" sign up for several years after the ticket system was done away with. I love the old west theme of BTMRR. Love the trivia. You've even found a few that I don't know. My kids love this ride so I have been on it tons. I've always loved this ride! I remember being a bit torn because I missed the original Mine Train. My dad on the other hand, used to tease me because he liked BTMRR so much better - " Disneyland needed another roller coaster ride!". It still has some reminders of the old ride - the town of Rainbow Ridge and the Rainbow Caverns. I don't remember ever waiting more than 45-60 minutes to ride it in the early days. - Gia 785.6 #121 8:00AM

This is my favorite attraction in Disneyland because I love the outdoors, the theme is perfect, and I live for drops. Day or night (but mostly night, with the fireworks going off) - it's so much fun. This has to rank #1 favorite ride for me. As for the classic rides that is. Reason for that is my family use to go every year to Disneyland and my mom can't ride the rides (she here very sick) so my dad rode every ride with me. He passed away when I was 15 (quit a few years ago) but this is the one ride that he likes the most and every time I ride if I still get tears in my eyes cause I know he is screaming his head off up there with me. BTMRR is still one of my favorites,from the famous goat, to the stalagmites and stalactites and Nature's Wonderland pools. My most memorable experience at Disneyland is still the time my sister and I rode BTMRR during the fireworks. That was an unforgettable moment of Disney magic as we were going up the second lift before the goat's turn.
