Good morning MW! This day in Disney history, August 5th, 1967. Adventure Thru Inner Space opens in Tomorrowland. Guests are transported in their "Atomobiles" through a microscope where they are shrunken down & sent off to explore the inside of an atom. It features the voice of Paul Frees & the song "Miracles from Molecules" written by the Sherman Brothers. For a virtual ride through, click here: 🎬 http://is.gd/tu6dq1 For a look back into 1967, click here: http://is.gd/N3anL0 🎥
Best part is that both versions of Star Tours have put in the Monsanto Mighty Microscope (the giant thing pictured above) into a scene of the attraction's flight. On the classic version, it was in the hanger as you took off incorrectly. In the current revamped version, it is seen in the Death Star before you go through the shield of the docking bay. Also, the comets in the original version looked very much like the snow flakes from Inner Space. Link here: http://tinyurl.com/8lzomkw - shadowgamer

I road this when I was 5 on my 1st trip to Disneyland in 1978. I only remember a few things from that trip, and this ride is one of them. Because I thought it really made you shrink when you road it. Most people I've asked don't remember this ride. So thanks for the history about it. Brings back great magical memory's. - Heatherluvsdisney

I vaguely remember this ride as a child. All I remember is snow flakes. There are a lot of things from my childhood that I question whether they were real. Posts like these help me to know I'm not completely bonkers. Great post. 😄 - aidensmama
339.3 #448 2:09AM
Hahaha! 😄 I suffer from the same insecure feeling of reality! So many attractions and such that I can vaguely remember experiencing as a child, when our imaginations are bigger than ever. We didn't get to go to DL very often in my family, so it seemed that things changed dramatically from visit to visit. Of course then you start to wonder what was real and what was over imaginative DL magic induced child brain. - poppet 19.7 #5181 5:19AM
Awesome and as informative as usual Duchess! Thank you for sharing this bit of Disneyland history with us! It never ceases to amaze me how much the park has changed over the years. - poppet

I remember the one snowflake that was close enough to touch and that there were always bits of it missing. - Experiment818
1598.0 #49 6:34AM
Ruining the snowflakes wasn't nice, but there weren't cameras so you could get out and see that they were made of styrofoam if you were say an adventurous kid. - Westcoast 77.3 #3360 1:49PM
It was a wonderful adventure when it was new. Thanks for the link - Tealtownfan
701.8 #146 6:45AM
I always wondered how it was that the shrunken people going up the tube looked like the people in line...and how they unshrunk ( is that a word?) us when we came back out. - MyEeyore

My hubby talks about that ride. Don't remember it. Neat pic - Splashmountgirl
333.7 #470 1:12PM
if you take a look at the the queue for Inner Space and for Star Tours,
you can tell that they virtually left it untouched when creating star
tours...you can even see it in the pictue above - Dave

The retro video is so cool. Brings back memories. I like the drip fountain thing in the lobby. The shrunken cars with people in them were so fake looking I'm surprised anyone was fooled and scared. - Westcoast
