I have a question about getting a GAC. I've been wanting to ask about it for awhile, but I'm afraid they'll say no because I don't have a visible disability, even though i have back problems and ankle/knee problems. However, I'm planning on spending all day at the parks tomorrow for my birthday, and my back is locked up on me. I can't overdo it tomorrow, and the GAC would really help. What do I say when I go to city hall in the morning? Are they going to give me a hard time if I have no visible disability and no documentation or anything? I'm also going to try to make reservations for the Lily Belle, and get my birthday button. Is that weird if I do all three at the same time? I'm just a big worrier.

They don't generally ask too many questions. But a doctor's note never hurts. Also if you are getting one for an extended visit - ie you have an AP, you need to remember how many people are usually with you when you visit the park. - BlueberryCrusader  650.7 #161 8:25PM
They won't question you but you should know a GAC doesn't always guarantee a shorter wait time. There are several different types of GAC's and the cm will determine which one will beat benefit you based on your concerns. Just something to keep in mind. A lot of people assume their GAC takes them to the front of the line and that is definitely not the case. - lostgirl7988  541.3 #208 8:25PM
They won't ask what I need it for? What about if they ask how many people are in my party? I'll be going solo, but I'm not always there by myself, so it will need to be good for more than just myself. - brit-brit  298.3 #616 8:26PM
They'll ask you why your concerns are while visiting and they will ask you how many in your party and how long your visit is. - lostgirl7988  541.3 #208 8:28PM
I have 2 friends both with GAC's... one is for using HC or FP entrance, and the other is only HC entrance.  If you have problems waiting in long lines (i.e. causes severe back pain), it is important to let them know.  They do need to know why you need a GAC, but they cannot ask for proof because of HIPAA.  They may be more willing to give you the HC/FP one.  If you have an AP, let them know this as well.  the AP GAC is good for up to 2 months at a time.  Do let them know how many people are usually in your party.   - Mandathewitch  355.6 #400 8:29PM
A friend of mine got one because he has a scoliosis-like defect which disallows him from standing in long lines, otherwise he is in intense pain. All he did was go up and say "I have ----" and they gave him one. - CM_LionGeek  340.3 #430 8:32PM
Thanks, everyone. I'm just paranoid. I do have an AP, so I will let them know. I'll talk to the CM about my concerns, and hope it won't be a problem. I didn't know there were different types. Stairs are normally my bigger concern in the line queues, but with my back acting up already, standing for too Longl is likely to be an issue for me tomorrow. Normally in this case I'd cancel my trip, but it's my birthday, and it's really important for me to be able to go. - brit-brit  298.3 #616 8:37PM
I know exactly how you feel I may need to get one myself do the cyst I know have in my foot (horrible)and when I stand long boy does my foot look like the nutty professors foot lol but I always just shake it off! Good luck I hope all goes well and enjoy your trip :-) - MikaDreamsEverythingDisney  249.1 #1018 8:47PM
Unfortunately I know to well exactly what you're talking about. I hope you have a great time and you're pain is relieved enough to enjoy your special day. - 559MickeyLover  266.9 #855 8:51PM
Hope you will be able to enjoy your day at Disneyland...hope it is very pain free. - MsSkellington7  44.3 #3871 8:51PM
They won't ask for proof they can't. Just be aware that the GAC doesn't shorten wait times and some wheelchair lines are longer than stand by because of special boarding circumstances at the attraction So they may suggest a wheelchair rental if you have trouble standing for long periods of time. The alternate emtersnce don't always have seating and the lines move slowly sometimes. Also a few attractions are not recommended for those with back and nd k problems. So keep that in mind. - keikoanddaphne  5.7 #9382 10:14PM
