Hey awesome MWers!! I'm one week out from a much needed visit and I'm looking for suggestions. 1) Does anyone have recommendations for a close-ish beach and 2) Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice-ish restaurant for dinner? The hubby doesn't have an AP so we need to fill a day outside of the parks while being ready to drop the ropes on Friday! As always...thanks for the help!
And we're coming from Fresno so we won't want to go too far South. - LuvMyMinnieMe

I'm in Fresno too! We are having a local meet up in August. Check my posts for details! :) - Armenda 994.7 #89 2:57PM
Huntington Beach is fun and close by! As far as nice restaurants after Huntington you can drive north to Long Beach and eat on 2nd street. So many nice choices down there, Georges Greek, La Crêperie, etc. Map it out, the driving wouldn't be too far or take too long as long as you don't do it during rush hour. - LisaMouse7531

La creperie is amazing. Really good food, decently priced, and a fancy-ish ambiance - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 3:34PM
Also, their garlic fries give cafe orleans's pomme frites a run for their money - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 3:35PM
Huntington Beach is probably the best beach that is close by. If you go south if Huntington, Laguana Beach is a nice place to spend a day and get some good eats. - Disneymba 39.3 #4018 3:39PM
If you like to swim in the ocean, do the stingray shuffle when walking out into the ocean (basically just slide your feet along the sand) to avoid getting stung. Stingrays are in full effect right now! - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 3:40PM
Huntington sounds like a great choice. We aren't big ocean swimmers per se...but the kiddo loves to frolic. Good to know about the sting rays! - LuvMyMinnieMe 180.1 #1861 4:05PM
How old is your kid? It's not too bad on the shore, but they get more abundant when you go out a little farther. I was there the other day boogie boarding and felt a few when I was out there. But as long as your child doesn't go out too far all should be okay. Just better to be safe than sorry :) - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 4:09PM
She's almost five and just stays along the shore. That would certainly be a bummer of a way to start the trip! Plus she JUST got over her fear of petting them at the zoo. :) - LuvMyMinnieMe 180.1 #1861 4:14PM
I wouldn't tell her then. I think you will be fine if she just likes to wade. Maybe if you or your husband walk along side her and shuffle your feet just to be safe? But I think she should be fine - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 4:18PM
What if the mother is creeped out too? ;) - LuvMyMinnieMe 180.1 #1861 4:25PM
In all honesty the sand at Huntington hurts my toesies so I prefer Newport

There is a Joe's Crab Shack and Red Robin just down the street from Disneyland by the Target. My fiance and I love to go there for a nice dinner break away from the parks. - Armenda

Joe's IS pretty delish! - 559MickeyLover 266.9 #857 3:02PM
Lots of good options at garden grove across the street from dl. Downtown Disney is great too. I always suggest Naples or tortilla joes. Both really good, and they have an awesome birthday club. We also did the Anaheim White House once. Its the kind of restaurant that probably used to be nice, once. But it had the best veal I've ever tasted, bar none. Calamari was also yummy there. I'm sorry I don't have any info on beaches. But I hope your vacation is awesome both in and out of the park. Btw, I'm from hanford. Wanna swing by and puck me up? - LittleAprilShowers

Oooh...great suggestion! Close, nice, and a little different. :) - LuvMyMinnieMe 180.1 #1861 4:07PM
Bubba Gump Shrimp is definitely a go-to for us! It's close, but still feels like something different to experience outside the parks (and it's yummy too!). And I'm from Fresno too, so if you find me curled up in your luggage don't be alarmed lol - SPandEvLover

AP discount works at Bubba Gumps as well! - LisaMouse7531 409.1 #318 5:43PM
Great, thanks! I went from overwhelmed with no options to overwhelmed with great ones. :) - LuvMyMinnieMe 180.1 #1861 5:52PM
Would you like a beach area to check out? - MarshaMouse

I would. It's an anniversary trip...with our almost five year old. We're down there for three days, but only hitting the parks for two. I need something fun to lessen the pain of being so close but so far away. :) - LuvMyMinnieMe 180.1 #1861 4:04PM
Newport beach is nice. Take coast hwy 1 down to Laguna beach! Soooo pretty - MarshaMouse 2871.3 #15 4:23PM
Or take coast hwy north to long beach. But IMO Laguna is beautiful - MarshaMouse 2871.3 #15 4:25PM
I'm going to map it out. We went to Las Brisas for brunch once and LOVED it...so you may be onto something. I just don't want to tire us out with extra driving before the best part o the trip! :) - LuvMyMinnieMe 180.1 #1861 4:30PM
Las Brisas is legit. Nice choice. - vincentchase 642.1 #169 4:42PM
