Standing on a Soap Box…….This morning I finally got annoyed with all the Face Character bashing that has been going on lately and felt that it was time to say something.. I know that sometimes it’s fun to laugh at others for having stuff on their teeth or making a funny face but some of the things that have been said lately have been flat out hurtful t those in the costumes. People forget that MouseWait is read by a lot of Cast Members. People in the Entertainment department go into the lounge to look and see if any pictures have been posted of them ALL THE TIME. See the lounge has a lot of people they don’t know and people may share one of those special or funny moments that a character might have with a little one and it’s just as fun for them to see as it is all of us. See there is a big difference between what we can do on Facebook and what they can..See while in the Entertainment dept, they really frown upon people posting, tagging or having albums of them while employed by Disney so this is really a big outlet to see those pictures….Being a Face Character is no walk in the park and is probably the hardest job to get in the Park. Disney has very strict guidelines to what the look of the character should be and how the Character portrays the character from the big screen. Some may think it’s easy just to walk around and take pictures and sigh autographs but it is really not that simple and I think for those who go to the parks know that. ...It’s come to my knowledge today from several cast members in the Entertainment dept. that they have actually been hurt and bummed out by some of the things that have been said in here and its making MouseWaiit look bad…I think that its easy to be in a pack mentality on MouseWait and start ripping on things because it’s become popular and everyone is doing it…I don’t think that there is anything wrong with being critical or talking about a bad experience at the parks but when people start throwing low blows about their looks no matter how strong you are its going to sting a little bit.......Would you take a picture of Baseball mickey CMShellypee and make fun of their appearance in the lounge?
One last thing...WE all know and so do the People Playing the Characters know that they might not look as much like the character as the girl or guy who plays it Monday and Tuesday but they look pretty darn good...One of my X girlfriends use to always laugh that she was approved to do Cinderella because she thought she looked NOTHING like Cindy - Dave

Thank you for posting this, Dave!!!! Maybe people will start thinking about the image on the screen as a " REAL PERSON" and not just a pic of some random CM. Getting a cheap laugh at someone else's expense is childish and a bad a example to our younger MWers and to the rest of the community. - Candace

Thank you. It's the same as when people were posting pictures of guests at the parks and ridiculed them. It stopped because we decided they were people that could possibly be on MouseWait or someone who knew the person could come across it. For some reason it then became okay to criticize face character's appearance. It's not okay to blantantly tease someone just because they're portraying a character and I'm glad this is going to come to an end. Why is it suddenly fine to tear down someone just because they're in character? It's disgusting behavior. Disney made the choice to cast them so all you're doing is doubting their decisions. - MayBie

If I've learned one thing from MW, it's to not jump on the bandwagon. I said this in the other thread, but it could be mentioned here. When you're an actor/performer, you open yourself up to inevitable critique and criticism. However, the banter went way beyond appropriate over the last few days. I'm in no way comparing myself to a CM but I have spent countless hours as Darth Vader with the 501st and done Jack Sparrow a number of times for charity events and public functions! It really irritates me to the point of Hulk like anger when I see people taking shots like this ! Most people have no idea what's it takes to be in a blazing hot suit, taking photo after photo with screaming kids and understanding that you have to give every child the same experience whether you are tired, hungry, hot, or having a "bad day"! If you have never been in that position, it's probably best to stay mute, and that's a nice way of saying it! Anybody can buy a costume from the Halloween store and get trashed at a party, but to do countless hours of research to become a character and get into their mentality is not easy AT ALL savvy! yeah they are great, even if the line has already closed to take pictures if a child runs up to them they will still stop for a picture or autograph. or even better they will ask if they want to walk with them until they get to the CM area. and they are all really nice about posing for the camera, most of the time even if i'm to the side of the line they will face me and pose. - chris. 2507.1 #24 4:24PM
I couldn't agree more and I think this should be extended to include people that are in a picture that have no knowledge of it. I always feels bad when a picture is posted and people tease someone else in the photo. It's a mean bully tactic and isn't the at all necessary. It is really easy to tease when you are in an online forum and hopefully it doesn't continue. - LisaMouse7531

Face characters are SO important to children and I'd hate to see any of them have a bad day and not light up a little one's eyes because they're bummed about something mean that someone said on MW. Thank you so much for saying something. Having this perspective from a person who has been in those specific shoes is a great perspective and IMO it was time someone said something. I was starting to think it was becoming too insensitive and wanted to say something, but I didn't wanna be bashed or told I was wrong. One commen In particular about a princess (will not name who said what and about who) made me think to myself ( "Wow! Who are you to judge. That was harsh." So I let it go and stayed quiet. No one in this world is perfect and we all hav our qualities which make us unique and beautiful. So thank you again for stepping up and giving us that perspective. I hope the CM's know that we respect what they do for us every day. Thanks for the reminder Dave. I almost deleted my character collage yesterday because of all the negative comments but decided to leave it up since lots of MWers want to see the live park pics, especially of characters, and I didn't want to take the joy away from them. But it made me sad to see the comments posted on those pics for the reasons you mentioned above and also because I took time out of my DL day to take those pics and post them. - Mimmy

Dave your absolutely right, I participated in one of those threads but discussed an experience I had that I chalked up to a bad day, I commend all the face characters for staying character at all times putting up with kids stepping on them and touching them and the parents carrying on taking 1000 pictures. I am honestly not mad at anyone or directing this at any one person but just saying this as a whole. I know that I have done these things and said things about others in the past and I am just as guilty as everyone else for calling peter pan a scary ginger in tights but I feel that way about all Gingers not just Peter pan (I'm kidding) I honestly just thing that people got carried away and nobody really thought that these people might actually read the lounge or did not look at them as real people but cartoons on your TV...I don't think that anyone meant any harm and hope I didn't make any of you feel bad cause I was not my intentions - Dave

I'm so glad you posted this, and I completely agree. I just kept thinking about these young people who had probably dreamed of working for Disney, and had worked so hard and finally made it through the tough criteria that Disney requires, then to be judged so harshly must have just hurt their hearts if they were ever to see it. Im so glad you spoke up about this bulling. I saw the day they were making fun of princess nd felt so bad I just removed it from my thread. I would have reported but Im not up that rank yet.
