This day in Disney history, Nov. 18th, 1928. Mickey Mouse stars in Steamboat Willie, the 1st commercially successful animated cartoon to use synchronized sound! Co-directed by Walt Disney & Ub Iwerks &features the 1st appearance of Minnie Mouse. It is animated by Ub Iwerks, Wilfred Jackson & Dick Lundy. The short also features the work of inbetween artist Les Clark (who will go on to be one of "Walt's Nine Old Men"). Walt himself supplies the voices for all the characters - although there isn't any real spoken dialogue just whistling, grunts, laughter & other vocal sounds. (Despite the fact that this is not the first Mickey cartoon made or released, it is still considered Mickey Mouse's true debut & birthday!) to watch: http://is.gd/9vhWIZ
awesome!!! I love going into the oldies animation theater whenever we go it's so amazing to see and watch what animation has evolved into just through that walk around theater but then also to what it is today! Thank you for sharing! - BooEve123

Thanks. We all owe alot to those men. I always take the kids every time we go to the Main Street Cinema to see the old classics and tell them that this is how it all started. Without Steamboat there would be none of the others that followed. - splashphotoCM
