There is a great article written by some MWers. I believe it can be found in resources - KissDclown

To some extent it depends on the kind of camera you are using but here are a few: 1. Pay attention to composition - learn the rule of thirds and don't be afraid to look at the work of other photographers for inspiration 2. Don't use a flash in dark rides - it is annoying and doesn't help make the picture better. It actually flattens out the whole scene. If you have an SLR, get the fastest lens you can afford. The smaller the number you can set the aperture to (like f2.8, f5.6, etc) the better in low light. 3. Take lots of photos! Film is cheap these days because you dont need it so shoot away and edit later. 4. Post process - evaluate your pictures and use an editor to crop, set contrast, adjust color and more. 5. Have fun. If it seems overwhelming, shoot from the hip. You will get some very interesting pictures that you would have never thought to take if you were trying to get the perfect pic. - ghosthost

Ghosthost what kind of camera do you use? - speck

Ghosthost is right. I recently wrote in my coffee table book of DL photos that many of my, 'throw away photos' turned out to be better than the pics I tried to find the right look, angle, etc... Take lots of photos! :) - RadioMaverick

@Ghosthost/Radiomav-what would you consider a decent camera for a starter, not terribly expensive but can still handle most all of the basic necessities? - stratdad

Sorry I didn't see the questions posted on this thread until now. @speck, I use either my iPhone or my SLR (Canon 5D MKII w/ 24-70 f2.8L & 70-200 f2.8L). @stratdad, I would suggest a DSLR if you want the best quality. I love Canon but others swear by Nikon. The entry level Canon DSLR includes a lens and costs just under $500. Not sure if that is in your budget or not but it would be a great starter camera. One tip, the pop-up flashes on DSLRs are usually awful. An external flash costs a couple hundred bucks but makes a huge difference. If you get one or have one, try bouncing the flash off a wall/ceiling or get a diffuser to soften the light. If you are actually considering a purchase I would suggest B&H photo. They are a very reputable online retailer with some of the best prices. Be careful with a lotoif the other cheap online retailers - they will often try and sell you packages that include a bunch of junk accessories or way over charge you for protective filters and such. You should get a protective filter, but it shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg to get one. Feel free to text me if you have any specific questions. - ghosthost

I agree with CS. Going big on a camera doesn't mean you're going to get the worlds best photos. I would suggest going thru the MW records and find the post about great apps for the IPhone when it's comes to iPhone photos. A lot of the great photos you see on MW are shot on iPhones. If you have a droid look online to find the best apps for your phone. You can take loads of great photos on your phone! - Smart.tea

There is truth in what CaptainSparrow said; A good photographer can do some great things with just an iPhone. The iPhone is a great portable camera and I am sure the Driods are good too. I love taking pictures with my iPhone and playing with apps. It is great fun and I use it all the time. That said, the quality of the equipment makes a huge difference. The iPhone is a toy compared with my DSLR - There is no comparison. A quality camera allows the photographer to execute their vision with total control. The more you learn about your camera the easier it is to control and the more you can do with it. You don't have to go crazy but if you are serious about wanting to take great pictures and are able to afford it, get a good camera an learn how to use it. - ghosthost

@jennyfur, looks like a cool camera. I have owned Sony equipment in the past (more video than still) and it us very good. I would recommend dpreview.com for thorough reviews. If the amount if information is overwhelming just read the conclusion. Here is a direct link to the NEX-5 review http://goo.gl/0XoPH - ghosthost

I agree @PLM. His perpective is magical. I'm thinking CS needs to make a coffee table book of these beautiful pics and present it to Disney to see if they would publish it. All the pics really capture the Disney beauty and magic.. js :) - Tinkerbabe

Ghost host and Captain Sparrow gave great advise. Learn how to use your equipment just dont take it out of the box and push a button. Next, learn to really look at the details in your enviroment not just walking by and shoot. I take many photos but only a few out each batch come out really good. The best part is practicing, take alot of pictures and see what works. - Plumiegirl

Great tips! We are nikon users (and iPhone users) for pics. From a point and shoot to a DSLR. Before we buy a new camera body, lens, etc we of course research but we sometimes will
rent it. It helps for us to see if it what we want. Can get pricey but saves us lots of money in the long run. - lockshockbarrel
