Nice plug for the book! Anyways, especially during the peak season, you start seeing a LOT (and I mean a LOT) of fake pins being traded in the park. Also, I'm starting to teach more and more CMs I work with on how to spot fakes. - BaseballMickey_CM

Thanx BaseballMickey for all you do! Hopefully the other CMs will take this as seriously as you. - fvbmermaid 214.0 #1435 6:10PM
I read the book last week. It was well written and very informative. I was amazed at how people knowingly trade fake pins. My daughter and I usually only trade pins with CMs for pins we like. Now I know what to look for. Thank you so much for this book. - CinderellasMom

Usually I do but I wasn't really paying much attention that day. Was having way too much fun with my bestie to check right away. Even so, sometimes I can't tell right off, expecially if it's dark out. - PrincessLani

Thanks to the "How to spot fake disney pins" I was able to catch this little beauty in my work traders. Other than the eyes, there is some bad bubbling/discoloration on the flower petals. I'm going to educate my cast about this stuff soon. :)
They got me. As you can see this seems like an obvious fake. The "Ebter" any time between is the giveaway. Anyways, what is the proper etiquette for getting rid of the fake pins. Turn in to city hall? Does DL care about fake pins and want to see what's out there? The terrible part is this pin was from a cast lanyard. BE CAREFUL PIN TRADERS.
Can you help me out Strawberry? Is this an authentic pin? My hearts saying no cause the coloring in the mouth is off and it feels extremely light in weight. I may still keep it because I'm trying to collect chip and dale. (hope this came out better)
I don't claim to be an expert at pin fakes, but I'm in manufacturing, and any flash (metal left from defects in releasing from the mold) left on the edges of pins would have been rejected at final inspection by Disney. Having said that, if you like it, and weren't "swindled" in the transaction (i.e. paid big bucks on eBay for what you thought was legit), then keep it for collection. - Shroppy

I think if you like your pin a lot, and especially if you paid big bucks for it, you should keep it even if it is fake. It's a cute pin to have in your chip and dale collection :D - LivHeartsDL

If those pieces of flash are sharp, you can usually knock them off to keep them from scratching you if you're going to wear it on your lanyard. Use an an Xacto knife held perpendicular to the edge, from the backside and just run it along the edge, it's probably not holding on by much. The only thing to note is you will expose the base metal that won't be plated, and will probably be gold in color (brass). - Shroppy

Thanks Strawberry, that's high praise coming from you! I helped a friend with one of those "grab bag" lots on eBay and it actually was a good hands on education in fakes. We injection mold some metal parts where I work, and we have the some of the same issues that the Chinese pin factories have :-) - Shroppy 272.5 #810 3:28PM
Thank you all for the info. I got this from a trade at the emporium. I suspected because of the grey beards and that it felt lighter then usual. Eagerly waiting for the kindle book. :) - Waites4DodgerEars

#Pin Spotting- All of the following are fake pins. 1) this is from the 2012 DLR Hidden Mickey set. You can tell its fake because the lines are thick and the name "Sagittarius" is not written straight. 2) This Cruella Bowling pin is completely off colored (has more of green tone) compared to the artist rendering in our CM Pin book. 3) Mickey Sorcerer- Mickey's left eye is completely black. And 4) More...
