My great Aunt and great Uncle stepping off of the Congo Queen, October 1955🌴😍

Tagged in: Disney History
Oh she looks so pretty all dressed up. I like the top awning(not sure if that's the correct word) of the Congo Queen. And is that a CM or guest with the stripe shirt and sandal looking shoes? And the fella in the foreground looks spiffy with a coat and tie. Thanks for sharing 😊 - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5205.4 #17 11:01AM
Love these pics! K- The guy in the foreground, to the left, has a neat woven hat, like the type you see in Hawaii that they make for you. - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5205.4 #17 11:03AM

Does anyone remember the phone exhibit where Astro Blaster is now (and American the Beautiful was once upon a time).  It had phones hooked up to characters (you'd pick up a phone and a character would light up so you'd know who you got).  There were also rooms (with picture windows that looked out - right across from Star Tours - then Monsanto) where groups could call family members for free and all talk at once (ooohhhh) on speaker phones.  I remember thinking it was the coolest thing! - msdizmaui  637.9 #282 5:10PM

DsnyPrincessMommy aren't you the sweetest!? Thank you! I do indeed homeschool. How exciting for you! Have you decided on a curriculum yet? That took me awhile, but now that we have one that I love it's much easier. :) We usually bring our nature journals to the parks and try to identify as many plants and birds we can find. Good morning! πŸ‘‹ And 😍 I did not get to see DCA until 2006. I didn't visit at all while in college (no extra $ πŸ˜‚), but DLR was my first trip after I had been working for awhile, and also my first trip with my now-husband! Β Wow, sometimes I forget just how much has changed since then--I loved looking at the map! Β I did enjoy the earlier version of DCA very much, and it will always have a special place in my heart. Β It's so fun to have been able to see the park grow and develop (we joke that we, as a couple, kinda grew up with DCA πŸ˜‚--maybe we analyze things too much). Β Does anyone remember the store that sold the Mr. Potatohead parts? Β Loved that, haha πŸ˜‚ However, sentimentality aside, the new DCA is fabulous, and such a great Disney park. πŸ’–πŸ‘ - Spoonful_O_Sugar  576.5 #320 9:52AM

Great post! No, we were not there for opening day. Funny, I recently found a map from our visit in 2004. Back then, both parks were put on one large map. Of course Maliboomer is on  on it as well as the Orange Stinger🍊. And then at the opposite end of the park we do have the Superstar Limo, but no ToT.  This DCA map looks and feels so very different from how it is now. I am definitely happier for the changes they have made. Thank you!!    - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5205.4 #17 11:15AM

lol, only lasting 11 months is a sign that it was indeed awful. πŸ˜‚ - Duchess_SMK  5936.7 #15 10:05AM
At the daily opening of the ride they use to have a screaming contest, I don't remember if it was kids only. I think the power meter was used?  A few guests were picked for the scream off. The winner got a certificate that allowed them Front of Line privileges?  Sorry my memory is so fuzzy but they did do this I swear!  I want to say for a year or two. I love this ride, it's so well done, no "slow" spots. When I first saw MI during the door chasing scene I thought "this would be a great ride".  I was so happy to see this scene in the ride! - PrincessDuckie  805.2 #205 6:22AM
I hope the kids are treating you well! I'm sure you are enjoying a snugly baby during these cold nights. 😍 - PrincessDuckie  805.2 #205 6:24AM

The picture on the left was taken in 1972, I am in the red poncho and my sister is in blue. The picture on the right was taken two days ago! What a difference 42 1/2 years makes! What a blast we are having retaking our old pics! We decided when we are in our 90's we'll retake them again!!

I'm nostalgic for the flower mart on center street...and just across main street you could get a pastel portrait from one of several disney artists (just outside market house) - MickeyLumboCM  895.0 #180 11:01AM
What sweet memories. Did you ever have your picture drawn there?  - adisneyfamily  862.8 #192 11:47AM
A few weeks ago, .... just before the holidays, during a home makeover, i discovered my portrait rolled into the original protective tube. It was from 1971. Pretty cool momento. I remember it hard to sit still. Lol - MickeyLumboCM  895.0 #180 11:51AM
