Today our Disney dreams came true with a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany. For those who don't know, Neuschwanstein Castle was the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty's Castle in Disneyland. It's easy to see how Disney Imagineers were inspired by this magical place! Like Neuschwanstein, the Sleeping Beauty Castle was designed to appear taller through forced perspective (design elemen  More...

I loved the skyway. I'm pretty sure it's my cousin's fault it was closed and removed. He would get a little box of rock candy and throw it at people. If he ran out of candy he would try and spit on people. My favorite part of the tiki room is when the ladies drop down and have us sing along. Unless Maynard's there then his intro is my favorite part of the show. I liked the Swiss tree but kids don't know of the movie or the book so it makes since to change it to Tarzan. I think it's a good change and lots of fun. - Bassplayerswife  117.1 #3054 10:20AM

great post , the longest i waited for this is 60 minutes lol on . the cms do a great job with an average of 40 minutes but 60-90 is ok on busier days.at first i thought fasspass would be great but do a low capacity and 2 vechicles load would make the stand-by line even longer.i have been able to hit over the 300,000 mark with my arm being super soar lol,mr.potatoe head is advance tech too as cameras are able to point out guest to in interact with.the ride had an upgrade when toy story 3 came out replacing the boo-peep pop ballons. throughout the ride are easter eggs that if you trigger correctly will open up higher point targets.the inside of the ride is a tribute to alot of classic board games and others. for japans version when the ride first opened pics where on social medias showing the wait time at 8 and 10 hr long.one fun fact i found in a toy story mania documentary is on the ring toss game it was modified quickly. the original game was programmed to act like real ring toss making it harder to land the rings on the targets, the change was to give the targets a magnetic pull around them making it way easier to land on them. - pikarich  2300.0 #46 9:15AM

Me too!!id get to enjoy it much more often!  - Duchess_SMK  5344.5 #14 6:34AM
This surely is one of my fav rides in DCA. The queue is great with Mr.PotatoHead as the barker. And thank goodness they put those umbrellas up- we used to have to just stand in the sun๐Ÿ”ฅ. I don't recall any of that opening day attraction stuff, as we were there. I just remember being in line near Ariel's Grotto and the line no longer moving. We sat down in our spots and waited. After some time, we were finally told the ride had broken down. Then the  line moved again, and stopped. It was really hot that day on the Pier and finally we decided to call it a day after waiting in line for 3 hours. Lesson learned that day, for sure... Go find something else to do and come back later๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š thanks Duchess ๐Ÿ˜˜ - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  3367.8 #26 6:40AM
Oh yes! That's right they didn't used to have those 'S! Wow! 3 hours then being told it was broken, now THAT's a bummer! Yes! I couldn't wait that long for anything. I'd have to come back. Especially with kiddos! Thank YOU churro! ๐Ÿ‘ฏ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ’— - Duchess_SMK  5344.5 #14 7:19AM
This is one of my favorites! It would be fabulous to have shorter wait times. However, a 60min. isn't too bad because the line is constantly moving. The bad part is the stinky smell from the plants. My favorite part of the ride is Ham's and the army men. There is just something exciting about being able to throw eggs and break plates! Once again, thanks for the wonderful post.  - Bassplayerswife  117.1 #3054 7:37AM

What a fun filled history post! So many wonderful attractions opened and such changes around the Parks! A mere nickel for a bag of Fritos! mmm! I like that! It would be pretty incredible to hear Aunt Jemima singing to me whilst I ate Mark Twain buckwheat pancakes. I wonder what songs were in her line up? The prices at The Silver Banjo, a place I had not heard of, look pretty tempting โ€“ I'll take the spareribs plate and a lemonade๐Ÿ‹ bc I see they do not offer Coke๐Ÿ˜‚. That picture of the Grad kids rubbing their feet is pretty funny and I agree, I'm sure her feet hurt a bit more than his- but gosh the way they are dressed is sooo๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜!! I also like the snuggle Matterhorn picture... Not sure how easy that was to do with a blazer on๐Ÿ˜‚. I really wish that our high school would have offered it, I definitely would have gone to the grad night and wore probably something totally 80s- maybe pastel dress?? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.  I really like the outfit and pillbox hat on the lady standing next to the Club33 door. So classy. I have never been to Club 33- I would love to see the inside for my loveโค๏ธ of history, take in the view on the balcony of NOS and ROA, and perhaps enjoy the food๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š (I will just bet that the salmon was delicious โ€“ you know I love it, too๐Ÿ‘ฏ) When I first heard that DCA was going to be made over, I wasn't quite sure because I was so saddened to see the CALIFORNIA letters come down. We always enjoyed taking photos next to the initials of our little churros. When we finally did go to DCA, for the first time, I had tears rolling down my face because of the beauty and how it just looked like it *belonged*.  I was lucky to eat at the Carthay, a year ago, with some wonderful MWers at the Reunion Weekend in the Snow White room. What a spectacular place that was- and so full of detail. As for favorite dish, I'm not sure-I just took it all in, but those cheese biscuits SURE were tasty๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹ LOVE your collage! You and the girls look so cute and they are so little! Thank you very much for such a great history post ๐Ÿ˜˜ - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  3367.8 #26 7:57AM

Thank you for that! I agree those busquits are ๐Ÿ’ฃ! ๐Ÿ˜‹ thanks again! ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ’— - Duchess_SMK  5344.5 #14 5:28AM
Thanks again Duchess for such an awesome post.  Thoserestaurants you mentioned were before my time.  I had never even heard of them, but I love the prices.  Haven't had the pleasure of club 33.  Maybe when I win the lottery.   Lol.  As for grad nites I think they were more special back then.  Dressing up makes it a glorious occasion and having the park open all night just for Grads was awesome.  I don't like The way they do it now.  It takes away all the special glory of an all night celebration just with other grads.  Now, it is set up as just a trip to Disneyland.  Lastly, Carsland is a great addition.  However, my most favorite addition is Buena Vista street.  Love the Trolleys, jazz, and rag time dancers.  Character outfits are also very cute!  Thanks again for the wonderful post and good luck with that little bun in the oven that you think may be a trouble maker.  :). My son is 10 now and he was a trouble maker from the start of conception.  However, I love him with all my heart and he keeps me laughing and on my toes.  Lol. :) - Gabster1forDodgers  500.1 #350 10:10AM
My sincere pleasure! So happy you enjoy them! I agree! I love those prices too! ๐Ÿ˜‚you don't need to win the lottery, just need to be invited! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜‰ I bet you'll get to go someday you watch! I a also agree with you about the grad nights! The dressing up part made it more fun and special! I could live on BVS if they let me! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Love the time period and the music! Thank you so much for the well wishes for my little man on the way! I've accepted the challenge of the trouble maker, hubby's a red head, and all my kiddos are usually born red, you know what that means. ๐Ÿ˜‚ thanks again for your reply! ๐Ÿ˜˜ - Duchess_SMK  5344.5 #14 5:34AM
My cousin and I used to love to eat at Aunt Jemima's!  We would go there for dinner, even. I don't think we cared what time of day it was. We loved pancakes!  And they had every kind imaginable. I specifically remember those buckwheat pancakes. We thought we were so cool and worldly ordering up pancakes we could never get at home. Haha!  It was a lot of fun back in those days. Great memories for me. ๐Ÿ˜Š. Carsland opening. We were not there that day, but our long planned week long vacation began two days later, on Father's Day. I know I picked up some souvenirs back then. I kinda tend to do that a lot. ๐Ÿ˜œ This was our first Disney trip in nearly three years. Getting to see Carsland was a bonus!  That Sunday was surprisingly not that crowded. We got fastpasses for RSR and only had about a 20 minute wait in line. Of course, we all thought it was awesome!  We all loved Maters' ride and still do. The kids went on Luigis' Tires. I always wondered why it wasn't a little bit faster.   Reading your list of old sponsors really brings back memories. I remember Frito Lay. I remember Sunkist Oranges. I remember when you could actually get ice cream at the Carnation Cafe!  I remember the Pendleton wool shop in Frontierland that my mom and aunts and grandma would always love to go shopping in and come out with something new and plaid. Sigh. Oh, to go back for just one day and see all those giggling ladies having fun shopping. Or to meet them for some spare change to buy our pancakes while they wait with their men in line for the next Horseshoe Revue show. That was my childhood. And I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. Thank you, beautiful Duchess, for another lovely trip down memory lane. ๐Ÿ˜˜ - MeridaFan  3185.5 #27 8:34AM

I really like riding the Columbia. Going below deck is fascinating. We are still trying to figure out if it is to scale or not. We know the bottom is flat because the ROA is not deep but is it an exact replication of width and length? If it is I can't believe they stayed at sea for so long in such cramped quarters!!! Can you imagine living in those conditions, traveling to unknown territories, (Are they hostile? Are they friendly) relying on a doctor who has no idea how to keep a human alive and healthy, a cook who has no Idea of sanitary practices, a ship owner who cuts corners by trimming or buying substandard rations, no weather predictions... The list goes on and on! Those people were true adventures, dreamers and pioneers. I think Walt would have been aboard the Columbia if that was his era!!! - Boundin  488.2 #363 12:05AM

SUPER spoiler; there are KEY WORDS in the ride that will predict what scene you will get. To get Vader as your start scene listen to these when the ride start: Star Tours 1401 you are cleared for departure,  C-3po โ€œ 1401 thatโ€™s us we cant take off the captain isnโ€™t on boardโ€ and to get the security droid listen to this โ€œ Star tour 1401 you are cleared for departure initiate auto takeoff sequence, c-3po โ€œwhatโ€ , computer- auto take off initited , c-3po โ€œr2-d2 whats going on here we are not ready for takeoff the captain isnโ€™t on board yet. The verbiage is very similar but has slight changes THATโ€™S how you know. Im not going to reveal anymore but will give you this hint the other changes in words are before r2 makes the jump to lighspeed and regardless of whose hologram you get itโ€™s the verbiage that c-3po says right after that tells you your final scene. and this is before the screen comes down other way is after the screen comes down if you see the millennium falcon then you know you will not get vader. Want to have a greater chance to be the rebel spy? after you sit down try and look forward and still as they need to quickly take a pic this from being selected 5 times already. my fav destination is the death star  - pikarich  2300.0 #46 9:25AM

I am not on here much anymore, but this caught my eye.  I was one of those kids in the choir that opened Small World.  I was pretty little, but do remember most of that day.  I got to shake hands with Walt. He was so kind, and made a point to speak to each one of us. Taking the older kids leads, I decided not to wash my hand for a week. That only lasted a few days with the plastic bag and rubber band!  We also made one of the 45's that was sold in the park, that went gold.  We recorded it in a studio with the Sherman Brothers.  The choir got to lead the Christmas parade for two whole weeks in the evenings, when they debuted the huge Small World dolls. Being backstage during the holidays every night was truly magical!  I believe Walt found the choir, because we were involved with Unicef and the People to People program.  Our signature song was "Let there be Peace on Earth".  I know the song is annoying to many, but if you remember what Walt's vision was, it may make it a little easier to handle. There isn't a time that I don't get a tear when I ride it, or hear the song. I have a rich Disney history in other areas, but this was the highlight.  - snowwannab  667.3 #233 11:07AM

๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰ So many great memories of Fantasmic!  The first few summers of Fantasmic we took quite a few groups to DL just to see this amazing show. I would camp out starting at like 3 pm lol with my blanket and a book to save space. I don't know why I brought a book I always ended up people watching!  I loved sharing the show with our nieces, nephews (Teen Mickey!) , goddaughters and little friends. Every show I had a twinge of sadness that we would never have kids to share the show with. But I did love watching the show with kids and first timers. It was the best feeling ever. Flash forward a few years when our first miracle came along. I think I watched her watch the show the whole time. Crying of course. So grateful we had a daughter to share the magic with. Flash forward about eight years later when Lil One came along. She is obsessed with Fantasmic just like I am!  We have watched it twice in rain because we could!  Who cares about getting wet. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ any who thanks for the memories Duchess! - PrincessDuckie  710.4 #208 9:14AM

Good morning! This day in Disneyland history, May 4th, 1977: Space Mountain opens in Disneyland.  Not to be confused with the official dedication ceremony which happened a few weeks later on May 27th, 1977.   More...

I rode this the first time in July 1977.  I had no idea what the ride was like, since I could not see it from the outside.  Grandpa needed someone to ride with him, so they told me it's like Small World.  So I went.  I about died!  Took a few more years before I rode it again.  Now it's one of my favorites.  And although Grandpa is no longer with us, I have an awesome memory of riding this attraction with him for our first time!  โค๏ธโค๏ธ - AZDisney  598.0 #275 7:56AM

i never got to ride it in my younger days because i only went to dl 2 times from age 0-21, but i habeheard and seen videos of the older rockets that use to glow in the dark.I love space mnt . before the 50 th anniversary of disneyland space mnt had closed for a year a believe and had rebuilt the track and the support where reinforced deeper for more safety. the asteroid at the top of the lift is still therewith a huge hidden mickey crater on it although its dark now they dont shine light on it anymore but a got it on *gasps flash -this was before my mw days and didnt know better. today there is a hidden donald and a hidden mickey projection comet on the dome thats mega hard to find but am always happy to point them out when i ride with other mws. lol ok - pikarich  2300.0 #46 10:34AM
I'll have to look next trip! Thanks pikarich!  - Duchess_SMK  5344.5 #14 10:51PM

@LuvsTiggerIt is not silly at all!! We all have to have our traditions to  honor those that have passed. I'm sorry about your mom. Best ride to honor her!!! - Superspacemountainfan  65.8 #3870 2:03PM
As a young shoeshine boy, I recall watching....oh wait.. I envy @MickyLumboCM.  But I do remember when this opened and I still love this attraction to this day.  Although, I just made the comment the other day to some other MWers that I miss seeing the coasters go by while you were waiting in the queue. - DisneyDavidEMT  1392.7 #86 8:52PM

Thank you for an incredible post ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŒบ - apesandmonkeys  6242.5 #8 11:59AM
Milt was a friend of our family. He was behind recommending me for the role of shoe shine boy. When he needed some specialty printing done for Guest Communications, Milt went to a printer across the street from what used to be the Wonderbowl ~ now Simba lot. At that small print shop he met my brother and they hit it off...after our father died, some time passed when Milt counciled my brother and I. He gave my brother some seed money to establish his own printing company and has continued to print for Disneyland and Walt Disney World since 1980. This past friday, my brother delivered a third rush order of Easter Egg Hunt maps to the Resort. Last friday, Disneyland provided me the best possible medical care.  Thank you Milt... we will never forget๐Ÿ‘ - MickeyLumboCM  347.9 #579 1:59AM
