Good morning! πŸ‘‹ And 😍 I did not get to see DCA until 2006. I didn't visit at all while in college (no extra $ πŸ˜‚), but DLR was my first trip after I had been working for awhile, and also my first trip with my now-husband! Β Wow, sometimes I forget just how much has changed since then--I loved looking at the map! Β I did enjoy the earlier version of DCA very much, and it will always have a special place in my heart. Β It's so fun to have been able to see the park grow and develop (we joke that we, as a couple, kinda grew up with DCA πŸ˜‚--maybe we analyze things too much). Β Does anyone remember the store that sold the Mr. Potatohead parts? Β Loved that, haha πŸ˜‚ However, sentimentality aside, the new DCA is fabulous, and such a great Disney park. πŸ’–πŸ‘ - Spoonful_O_Sugar  569.4 #317 9:52AM

Great post! No, we were not there for opening day. Funny, I recently found a map from our visit in 2004. Back then, both parks were put on one large map. Of course Maliboomer is on  on it as well as the Orange Stinger🍊. And then at the opposite end of the park we do have the Superstar Limo, but no ToT.  This DCA map looks and feels so very different from how it is now. I am definitely happier for the changes they have made. Thank you!!    - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  4984.6 #18 11:15AM

I rode SuperStar Limo too when Ca adventure first opened. The only thing I remember are all the cheesy stars that kids probably didn't know who they were.  The ride was the worst idea. I also remember there was like a "backstage" around the area with a trailer and directors chairs for photo op.  - MickeyEyeAdore  26.0 #5774 1:24AM
lol, only lasting 11 months is a sign that it was indeed awful. πŸ˜‚ - Duchess_SMK  5868.3 #14 10:05AM
At the daily opening of the ride they use to have a screaming contest, I don't remember if it was kids only. I think the power meter was used?  A few guests were picked for the scream off. The winner got a certificate that allowed them Front of Line privileges?  Sorry my memory is so fuzzy but they did do this I swear!  I want to say for a year or two. I love this ride, it's so well done, no "slow" spots. When I first saw MI during the door chasing scene I thought "this would be a great ride".  I was so happy to see this scene in the ride! - PrincessDuckie  788.8 #205 6:22AM

The eucalyptus  trees in the back of jungle are from the original  lands too. They said Walt was going to save more trees and came to the site one day and someone cut down more than he wanted. So he went out and got more. when DCA was being built they asked in our local paper for people to donate full grown trees to Disney ( I believe they were paid for them too). - secretagentangel  1348.7 #106 1:22PM
I didn't know any of that, that's great info!! - adisneyfamily  838.8 #190 2:04PM
Not sure if they put plaques on the first DCA trees, though I doubt it. When they first brought them from people's homes they were in big wood containers but I think not all of them made the transplant well and died.  :( you used to be able to go to a place and buy the used Disneyland plants, (they replace littles constantly) but I was told they donate all now. There is a tour based on the plants of DL but not sure how often they do it.  - secretagentangel  1348.7 #106 2:52PM
Yes! I remember that video on Main St during the 50th anniversary with Steve Martin where Abraham Lincoln is now, talking about how Walt tied ribbons around the trees he wanted to keep/take down and they were green/red but the person operating the bull dozer was colorblind and cut all of them down! - SarahLovesDisney  82.2 #3702 3:05AM

Thank you for this Duchess! This is a big deal for me. I don't talk about why I love ariel and the little mermaid too often because I don't like to be all sappy--but this movie was one of the main things my mom and I bonded over. She really influenced and fostered my love of the ocean when I was a child and continued to do so until she passed away in 2001. This movie is more than just a movie to me, as crazy as it sounds-and every time I watch it I am overcome with good feelings and great memories of my mom that will last a lifetime. I only hope to one day pass down my love of the sea and of this movie to my children as it is so so very special to me. THANK YOU 😘😘 - missariel33  1865.3 #73 4:41PM
Awe sweetie! Thanks for sharing that with us! Made me tear up! I love even more now that we got to sit together during the sing-a-long! I'm so sure that you will do a wonderful job passing on that love INDEED! Thank YOU! - Duchess_SMK  5868.3 #14 4:51PM

What a great history post! The ads for the Post are great! Love the pan, Spud ciggies- (what a name, you would think they were made from potatoes😜) and I think I liked the Rambler car the bestπŸ˜‚.  I watched the video- Alyssa Milano is soo young there. Loved watching the interview with Pat Carroll and hearing what influenced her to make Ursula's voice.  Interesting at one point Ursula says, "In my day, we had fantastical feasts, when I lived in the palace." I looked that up and apparently Disney played around with Triton and Ursula as siblings, which would make sense, that she was banished from the kingdom she would try to do what she could to get back at him. My favorite part about The Little Mermaid are the scenes with Ursula πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸ’š, but you probably already know thatπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I am looking very forward to going on this attraction again😱😱😍😍😍. Thanks!!!     Love and πŸ’•,  - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  4984.6 #18 10:00AM
Thanks love bug! I had a feeling you may enjoy the ads as much as I did. I was LOL at the "Spud" ciggies too! What an incredibly odd name! I'd take any of those cars TBH. But the rambler is a great choice! She was right?! Made me think of that show she was on....what was it? Who's the Boss? hahaaha! Glad you enjoyed the video, I totally thought of you when I was watching the interview with Pat Carroll. :) Yes, I guessed you loved the Ursula parts best, but idk how I knew that! ;) Love YA! xx - Duchess_SMK  5868.3 #14 4:58PM

Such a historic day! I remember hearing that when Fantasia was in theaters, there were only a few that could show it because it the studios built a special audio set up for the film, thus, could only show it in a few theaters at once. Also, did you know that the final product of Toy Story 2 was all done in about 3 weeks of production? If you watch the Pixar Story documentary, they were having a really hard time with a script and any character development while introducing new characters at the same time (Bullseye, Jessie, etc.). After watching it, a lot of people felt like the story still wasn't complete enough and felt like there was something missing, thus, a third film was made.  - BaseballMickey_CM  6702.2 #9 10:43AM
I didn't know any of that! Thanks for adding BaseballMickey_CM! 😘 - Duchess_SMK  5868.3 #14 3:08PM
and my fave scene for the movie is of course the Sorcerer Apprentice! but i love ALL OF THE SEGMENTS! (Wish they do another Fantasia movie this time around, now that we have all the resources Walt Disney needs during his time!) - otilegna  1989.4 #64 8:46PM

I am so lucky that the original Mickey Mouse Club was, Β I guess, Β syndicated and played in the 70s. Β It was so great to see Β the show that my parents would have seen when it was new. Β and I got to see the shows within the show, Β 'Annette' and 'Spin and Marty'. Β the songs on MMC were so fun! - MsTikiMermadam  120.4 #3083 2:35AM
