Rollo Rumkin, Cousin Algernon, Ned Nub, Phineas P. Pock .Thank you for sharing this post. I always enjoy your posts. This is my 2nd favorite ride and a must do when my family goes. I usually have to drag my husband and daughter on it at least once and then I go by myself haha. It was my moms favorite ride. When I go to the parks I am always reminded of fond memories with spending time with her there; this ride is probably one of my favorite memories of us :)  - Wickednspurs  13.8 #8418 10:15AM

I rode the skyway and definitely miss it but I feel like there are more pressing things to refurb and bring back ::ahem ALL of tomorrowland lol:: I love the Tiki room!!!! but I do wish it was still a restaurant and I remember before Aladdins oasis too! As for the treehouse I have mixed feelings- Love Tarzan and I like the refresh/redo but I miss classic Disney. And there is not enough homage paid to Walts live action films in my opinion in either park. Swiss family Robinson was the last vestige to his his 100% live action movie Β legacy.Β Thank you Duchess!!! Ps that first pic of Walt is 😍 - missariel33  2113.8 #66 12:13PM

hi missariel33! ::giggles:: I guess it wouldn't really fit into Tomorrowland if they brought back all the old attractions though would it? ☺️ But I too loved all of em! Wish there was more room on the property so that could add a "Yesterland" with all the retired attractions of the past! THAT would be amazing! I agree with you, classic Disney will always be my favorite but I understand their need to be fresh and current. 😊 Thank YOU for answering my questions! Aβž• for you too!! I was one of those children that opened Small World.  I have posted that before, but that brought lots of memories back.  I met Walt, shook his hand and he spoke to each of us.  I didn't want to wash my hand, and I won't say how old I was, but very little!  It meant a lot even at that age I guess?  My voice is also on the 45 that we made with the Sherman Brothers in a studio that was sold at the parks.  I believe the 45 says it was recorded by a children's choir, which was us.  We were the International Children's Choir from Long Beach.  I was a soloist when we sang the song and I represented Columbia, and sang in Spanish, which I still remember.  Kind of feels special to be a part of such an iconic part of Disneyland.  Thanks for posting these, as always! - snowwannab  733.9 #245 6:57PM

My great Aunt and great Uncle stepping off of the Congo Queen, October 1955🌴😍

Tagged in: Disney History
Oh she looks so pretty all dressed up. I like the top awning(not sure if that's the correct word) of the Congo Queen. And is that a CM or guest with the stripe shirt and sandal looking shoes? And the fella in the foreground looks spiffy with a coat and tie. Thanks for sharing 😊 - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5649.1 #17 11:01AM
Love these pics! K- The guy in the foreground, to the left, has a neat woven hat, like the type you see in Hawaii that they make for you. - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5649.1 #17 11:03AM
I think the answer to every question is--yes! Exactly! I agree!!! I wonder if they made thosse hats in Adventureland back then!!! - TinkerSchelle  1783.3 #85 4:19PM
That's what I was thinking- make the hats there 🌿🌿🌿 - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5649.1 #17 10:15PM

More from October 1955...the Mark Twain in some seriously shallow water 😁

Tagged in: Disney History
So the reason that the water is so low is because when they first filled up the ROA they did not realize that the ground would absorb all of the water so they had to pour concrete just before the park opened to the public. Even after they poured the concrete, they had a hard time keeping water in the River because of absorption by the ground. It took them years to really keep the levels at at a normal level and a system that not only keeps water in there but also replenishes it when it gets low. - Dave  13213.9 #2 11:43AM

That's a great view but it looks more like a marsh than ROA.Β How things have changed in 60 years - K2Dave  66.1 #4119 5:12PM

Does anyone remember the phone exhibit where Astro Blaster is now (and American the Beautiful was once upon a time).  It had phones hooked up to characters (you'd pick up a phone and a character would light up so you'd know who you got).  There were also rooms (with picture windows that looked out - right across from Star Tours - then Monsanto) where groups could call family members for free and all talk at once (ooohhhh) on speaker phones.  I remember thinking it was the coolest thing! - msdizmaui  676.3 #275 5:10PM
Yep. I definitely remember those!  πŸ˜Š. Fun memories.  - MeridaFan  3585.2 #37 5:14PM

@msdizmaui I absolutely remember !! Loved using the speaker phone to call my family when I was at the Park with a school group!! I think they had a prototype of a video phone as well ( which sounded soooo futuristic!) - carminaire  743.0 #242 7:04PM
