Let's collect trains! Disneyland fans know that Walt Disney's love for trains was one of the things that inspired him to build Disneyland. Walt built the Carolwood Pacific Railroad in the backyard of his Holmby Hills home that he purchased in 1949. Imagine what Walt must have been thinking when he watched this one-eighth scale train circle his backyard. STICKER NIGHT TUESDAY will feature pieces of  More...

I'm sure most you know this.... But that HUGE beast of a home was NOT Walt's home.  His original home was a lot more humble.  They saved only a tunnel and a couple bushes, that's it.  "We" at the Carolwood Pacific Historical SS saved the backyard Barn and with the generous help of Sharon Disney-Miller and the Broggie family (Michael and Sharon), the Barn was moved to 'Travel Town' train park at Griffith Park Los Angeles.    If you've never been there, please stop by! It's really cool.   I work with plastics myself and built the cover for Walt's workbench.. And it gave me goosebumps as I was helping protect Walt's handprints (in axel grease) and tools as he had them there.   Great project.   As things are today, I still have a pile of original train track pieces (wood and rails) in a pile in my backyard.    We tried at one time to help the Barn by selling small token pieces of the track, but that only went for a small time.   Oh, strangely enough, that "pile" of track sits in Carlsbad here, far from Anaheim or the Carolwood property.  In the end...  In my opinion... It's a shame what they did with Walt's property, house AND neighbors house just to built that insane Estate.  Then to "suggest" it even carries a resemblance to Walt's smaller home?  Hmmm..  But, that's progress for ya.    By the way, Walt's train setup was a smaller scale, but to really be blown away, look up Ward Kimball's "Grizzly Flats" backyard train.  I remember his neighbors just "loving it" when he did a steam up.  Ha!   I'd been there only once, but quite impressive having a full-scale steam engine.    May they both rest in the Depot called Heaven.   8):-)   - imtigger  18.3 #6526 10:41AM

Day 2 at the park started with breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen. I'm SO not used to eating real food (I didn't even eat that much!). Now I'm back in the room with a sore stomach....gonna take it ez from now on!

Aw cute!!  So sorry you had a little tummy upset.  I know how that goes.  Feel better!  (Oh, and ginger is supposed to help a queasy tummy, so you might try a little ginger ale if you can find it anywhere.  I don't know if it's really the ginger or just the bubbles, but it seems to help me).  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 8:10PM

Hi, everyone! Long time, no "see" :) I hope you are all doing well. I need to get back in to healthy habits again. I do so much better when I have accountability and you all have always helped me. I was curious if there was a "CHUB33" Facebook group or an Interest in one? The MW app/website can be hard to use sometimes and I thought a closed, private group might work well. What do you all think?

Has anyone ever heard of or tried the Paleo diet?  It seems good, only I don't cook so I'm not sure how I'd do on it.  Anyone have any luck with it?

I've looked into it--it seems like the basic premise makes sense to me (eat clean foods and avoid processed, sugary, refined stuff because we aren't evolutionarily adapted to handle the Standard American Diet).  I'd say my husband and I eat "Paleoish" pretty often, and I do feel better when I reduce the junk.  I am reluctant to fully follow any diet 100% though.  It did look like a lot of food prep to me, but I think you can follow the diet without having to constantly make full meals.  It's an interesting concept--maybe ask your doctor what he/she thinks?  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 8:07AM
I was thinking the same as you.  Pretty much common sense.  But following it to the letter long-term would be very difficult, if not impossible I think.  No breads or pasta ever?  I have friends who just started on it.  Not thinking that it'll last, but as long as they just give up processed foods, sugar and all the dairy, they'll probably lose a lot.  I'm now planning on staying with Jenny until the end of the year.  Not 3 meals a day, but at least a presence.  That's what I never did in the past.  I'd hit my goal and then stop cold turkey! - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 2:52PM
Yeah, I agree.  Eating clean and balanced meals most, but not 100%, of the time works best for me.  I mean, my favorite chain restaurant is the Olive Garden, lol 😂 There's no way I could just give up all my favorite foods forever unless I had a health issue that made it necessary or I was an actress getting paid millions to look a certain way.  Glad that Jenny is working well and that you decided to stay with it for maintenance purposes.  I think that's a really good idea!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 3:50PM
Hi ladies! You can say I follow a paleo diet. I'm 7 months of no bread, pasta, sugar and dairy. I love it. I think sugar was the hardest. You have withdraw and act like a huge b****. It's true! Pasta wasn't as hard as I thought. I use to have pasta 4-5 times a week so yes it was a bit tough at first but I think if you think long term it's totally worth it. My love handles are gone. If you do some research you find that pasta and bread stick to midsection and that can be very dangerous. Once in awhile I'll eat tortillas but it's rare. What I did is I have 1/2 cup of brown rice. Not everyday but sometime. If you love pasta which I do, I found brown rice pasta. It's seriously delicious or as I've seen I want to buy spinach pssta👍. Dairy wasn't tough either. I drink almond either and no longer have any gas or bloated ever.  - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  663.0 #244 12:08PM
I love the food I eat. It really changes your perspective of food. Before I'd eat for the great flavor but had ton of fat that isn't good for your body. I eat to give my body energy and treat myself on the weekend with one something  yummy like pasta at a resturaunt or sushi and ond treat. I look forward to it. I see it as work hard on the weekday and have fun on the weekend. My belly fat has gone down too. I do eat Greek yogurt for that (the only dairy) and drink lots of green tea. Green tea and Greek yogurt (no sugar) helps with the belly fat.  - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  663.0 #244 12:13PM
I take my health more serious especially since my dad two weeks ago had a triple bypass surgery. It's really scary. - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  663.0 #244 12:14PM
Oh and I don't feel sluggish. - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  663.0 #244 12:15PM
Sounds like you've got it down!  My friend is experimenting with Almond flour (to bread things) and already is into the spaghetti squash and zucchini "pasta".  I like the idea of a treat day.  I'll probably go back to that (and I find that when you're good all week, you really don't want to "blow" it like you thought that you would).  Only drawback to Paleo for me...I don't cook!  Although I guess that I could live on roasted veggies (which I LOVE) and ground turkey patties!   - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 2:45PM
You sound like my husband and I!  Haha, we do pretty much the same things, but occasionally go out to eat or have a treat.  Bread is hard to give up completely, but we don't eat much of it any more.  We buy only Greek yogurt, no cow milk, etc.  We do eat string cheese and feta occasionally, though, and occasionally, I get cream for coffee (though I really shouldn't).  We are very strict during Lent (no alcohol, sugar, or white starches), but relax a little more during the year.  You are so disciplined!  I feel great during Lent, and always consider sticking to it for longer, but I eventually cave, lol 😂  I figure I do a good job 95% of the time, and that other 5% does make me happy.  Someday I might get more strict.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 5:15PM

unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. Automated crowd prediction calendars are worthless--the UNFORECAST is where it's at!

Update for the week of Monday, August 25th:

Park hours: DL (9am-10pm weekdays, 9am-12am weekends); DCA (9am-9pm weekdays, 9am-10pm weekends). Since the parks are closing earlier during the week, Fantasmic will only be shown Friday-Sunday, World of Color will be shown at 9pm and the "Magical!" fireworks will be shown at 9:25pm daily (weather permitting).

FYI: this is a last full week to participate in "Legends of Frontierland" in Frontierland as it concludes on Monday, September 1st. Also, the Adventure Trading Company's last day in the jungle will be Monday, August 25 and will move onto a new adventure, so make sure to catch them!

unForecast Crowd Prediction: Expect it to be quiet to moderately busy this week as many schools go back this week, but there's also still quite a few people getting their end of summer vacation in at the Resort before school starts after Labor Day for them. But, reminder that this weekend is the Disneyland Half Marathon, so expect crowds to pick up Thursday and/or Friday as runners and their families come in for this weekend's events. And make sure to keep an eye out for any road closures late Saturday night to mid Sunday morning if you are coming to the Resort this coming weekend!

Have a great week! - BaseballMickey_CM Aug 25, 2014 12:00AM
July was arguably one of the slowest months of the year (some say the Sunday on Independence Day Weekend was the slowest day of the year). However, we saw crowd levels rise Sat Aug 2, and they've been steady through today (Aug 5). With the Socal passes coming good Aug 18, we should see good crowds throughout the end of the month.  - Admin Aug 5, 2014 2:23PM
New "Music of Nashville" event coming to the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree running on weekends, starting on July 18. To read more info: click here - BaseballMickey_CM Jul 9, 2014 11:04AM
So far this summer, Saturdays have been the quietest days of the week due to the Annual Passholder block outs. Today, wait times weren't too bad in both parks, with crowd indexes hovering around 60-70 at DL and 50-60 in DCA.  - BaseballMickey_CM Jun 28, 2014 11:24PM

We have always noticed that Saturdays are better than Sundays! We always come on the weekend and say we want to leave at dinner time on Sunday, but always leave by 11-12 because there are so many people. We love Saturday!! - 1Princess3Princes  351.1 #574 5:39PM
I agree. I think it has to do with most passes being blocked - PoohSizedGuy  18.5 #6497 11:53PM
I agree with BaseballMickey_CM.  Saturdays are the lightest days when all other passes are blocked out.  The 4th may be crowded because of the holiday, but I'll take that over a crazy Sunday any day. - potatohead25  533.7 #324 2:55PM
My solo visit last Saurday was the lightest crowd I remember in a long time, especially during the Summer! - grumpypapa  1973.0 #58 4:52PM
I agree @grumpypapa, last Sat. was as uncrowded as I've seen it in a long while! Besides the AP block outs, it might also be that people were waiting to visit until they were off work/school over July 4th weekend. - debbiev  771.5 #197 10:23PM
Saturdays, mornings during mon-Fridays, peak heat are low ride times and low crowds. IMO😉 - Plumiegirl  7790.6 #3 10:24AM

Super frustrating day! I was supposed to do a 10 mile run, and I just wasn't feeling it, pretty much from the word "go." Maybe it was just the thought of a double digit run, lol. Just the first quarter mile felt like a struggle--my body felt like lead! But I pushed through, for the next few miles. I got fed up and texted my husband at mile 5-- he is great at sending motivating messages so that  More...

OMG!  I blame it all on the wasp.  I can relate - even though you're light years ahead of me with your double digit runs!  The other morning I got up to walk with the intention of doing 4+ miles.  Just like you, I wasn't feeling it.  I kept changing the music and giving myself pep talks but didn't work.  Went home at 3.  Tomorrow is another day.... - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 4:36PM
Yes, it is--at least we both got out there and did something, even if it wasn't all that we had planned!  Man, I don't think I've ever been stung by a wasp and it's been at least a decade and a half since I've had a bee sting...they HURT!  My leg is sore tonight!  I'm glad I decided to head home because I might have ended up with a swollen leg or some weird reaction if I had tried to run another four miles. What a disaster, lol. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 10:54PM

Thank you!  Yes, all was fine, and I'm very grateful that I'm not allergic!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 5:37PM
I'm sorry you had a bad time. What works for me is to take each mile at a time. So instead of thinking of the whole run in your mind, tell yourself you can do the first mile and focus fully on that mile. Then do the same for each additional mile. It's a mental thing and when I work out and say I can't do it, I stop at that moment.  - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  663.0 #244 11:55AM
Thank you!  I agree--the struggle is usually mental, rather than physical.  One mile at a time is great advice (sometimes, I literally have to take it one step at a time, haha!) - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 12:23PM

Hi there!  I was right around 3 hours last year.  I trained for a 2:30 finish, but it didn't work out that way with the heat and because it gets slow going through the parks.  I just slowed down and tried to enjoy the experience and I decided not to worry too much about my time.  Please try not to be too nervous--the race is so fun and everyone is friendly and helpful and people (complete strangers!) will be cheering so loud for you; it is a very inspiring and motivational experience.  A DL race is a great one for novice runners because people are there to have fun and celebrate health and fitness. :)  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 10:29PM
I think time is my biggest worry! Are you running this half? - disneyland4me  239.9 #1338 5:46AM
I am planning on it!  My work situation is a bit difficult right now, and I may not be able to get away that weekend, but I'm hoping to!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 10:08AM
I hope your able to go!  - disneyland4me  239.9 #1338 10:16AM
I'm always just under 3 hours.  - MXPrincess399  632.7 #261 1:51PM

I've decided that browsing MW while watching TV while listening to update music is the best way to tolerate my elliptical!

Yes, I definitely need to be entertained when I'm using the cardio machines!  I used to love reading a book and listening to Pandora on the elliptical--I think I read most of Gone With the Wind one winter while exercising.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 3:29PM

I just wanted to share this picture of my little niece. They went to a Frozen party at Paint a Dream. My sister said that Violet was so excited to see them! And yes they are discussing her "tattoos". Lol

So cute!  What is Paint a Dream? - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 2:39PM
A place where you can paint your own ceramics. They then glaze and fire it  - MXPrincess399  632.7 #261 4:02PM
Is this affiliated with Disney?  I'm still confused.  Those look like "real" characters!  (we had one of those types of places in our mall but it only lasted maybe 6 months). - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 8:11PM
Nope, I don't think it's affiliated with Disney, but they do parties with Disney themes all the time. They have an Ariel and Capt. Jack one coming up. Lol  - MXPrincess399  632.7 #261 2:40PM

Yesterday I had an interview and hadn't thought out the outfit.  My old black "work" pants swam on me, so today I went through the "bag of many sizes" and redid my closet. I was exhausted after trying on everything (counts as exercise, right?)

How did the interview go?  Congrats on the new size. :) - Mrs.mouse  515.8 #343 7:44AM
It went good I guess.  I'm trying not to second guess them anymore.  If I get too excited, I never hear back!   I am glad to have cleaned out my closet...cranked up the A/C and just got it done! (trying on jeans is not my favorite thing!). - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 7:44PM
"Bag of Many Sizes"...I love it.  - vernswifevickie  399.4 #477 4:43PM
Sure it counts as exercise!  Lol, I'm exhausted after going through my closet.  Good for you and hope the interview went well :) - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 4:49PM
Had a 2nd interview yesterday.  The job looks okay, but I don't think that the pay will be worth driving that far (it's in Lahaina - I'd be buying gas every week which would be over $200 a month!).  Also, one of the employees would be real fun to work with...she introduced herself to me by saying 'I'm the mean one that every one says is the bitch".  All righty then..... - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 8:13PM
Oh wow, way to make a first impression, lol.  Well, see how it plays out.  Gas is so expensive that you definitely have to consider how far you're driving.  You almost have to ask yourself "would this be something I would consider if they offered me $200 per month less? Could I live a happy life on that?"   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 10:18PM

I'm down .6 this week. Not surprising after the previous 2 weeks I had. I'm ok with it. I'm moving forward with my goals. How's everyone doing? I thought I add a cute picture of my puppy, just because.

You had a great month.  How much...almost 10 lbs!?! - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 7:45PM
Hi Mrs. Mouse!  He is just so sweet!  Are your girls having a blast with him?  Glad you recorded a little loss this week :)  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 8:25PM
We are having a blast with him. He has brought me so much joy.  - Mrs.mouse  515.8 #343 3:51AM

Hello how is everyone doing?

I'm okay I guess. Still frustrated by my plateaus!   I'm 8 lbs from my 40# goal and it's torture!  I stepped up the exercise (did 4 mile walks 3x's his week in addition to the elliptical and dog walk) bit still only lost like 3 ozs!  How's everyone else doing? - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 12:07AM
I know it's frustrating but keep going!  - disneyland4me  239.9 #1338 12:42PM
Doing well trying to train 5-6 days a week to get ready for the Disneyland half marathon. I haven't lost any weight I'm must be doing something wrong but that's OK.  - disneyland4me  239.9 #1338 12:41PM
I lost a whole 0.8 last week!  Whoo Hoo!  I've within 8 lbs of my goal weight (4 and I'm back in the 120's!) but it's like pulling teeth at this point....hey...that's an idea.  How much do teeth weigh...lol! - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 8:20PM
Lol, I once grew my hair real long so that I could donate it.  I ended up cutting 15 inches off, and got on the scale the next morning--I had lost a few pounds in 24 hours.  I had no idea how much my hair weighed! It was so funny!  😂   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 8:49AM
My hair is too short.  Too bad that there's not a blood drive in town today! - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 2:48PM
Ran my best 3 mile time in at least 5 years this morning, so I'm feeling encouraged right now.  How is your training going?  I have the same experience with my weight loss stalling--seems like when I start running a lot and for longer distances, I stop losing.  I don't know why, either.  I could eat less, but I'm starving after anything longer than 10k.  Maybe I'm just overeating.   I think several other people have said they have similar experiences, so you're not alone!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 3:56PM

Running at 5:30am isn't beating the heat anymore.

I know!  I keep trying to convince myself that the monsoonal moisture makes it feel "just like running in the morning in Hawaii," but it's really nothing like that 😂 I'm in the midst of overcast agricultural land with 105 for the high today.  It does NOT smell like Hawaii!  🙊 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 7:13PM
Your post cracked me up!  I don't even know what hawaii smells like at 5:30! - msdizmaui  622.0 #269 12:08AM
Lol, to be honest, I'm not sure I do either, but it can't be as bad as the CA cow country when it's hot and muggy. I keep thinking I'll get used to it, and I just don't 😂 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 2:42PM
I am so with you I live in agricultural community up in Northern California and it's been 100 or more and I'm still trying to train in that kind of weather has been horrible. when it's so hot I only walking three to four miles lord help me n13.1 miles in 40 days for Disneyland half - disneyland4me  239.9 #1338 5:11PM
Have you ever run a half before?  Maybe you could go to a gym to do a few long runs on a treadmill before the race?  Last year I wasn't able to run outside for two weeks because of smoky conditions from a wildfire, and that's what I did--I did a few short runs and my last long run.  It's not ideal, and it was really boring, but for me I think it was better than not doing a 12 miler before the race because I had never run that much before.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 11:51AM
No I have never ran a half. - disneyland4me  239.9 #1338 6:40PM
Hope you can get a few long runs in, then!  It's hard in the heat!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  520.3 #334 9:39AM
I haven't done any long runs since the Tink Half in January.   I hope my 3-4 mile runs during the week will cut it.  - MXPrincess399  632.7 #261 10:35AM
