Hello how is everyone doing?

I'm okay I guess. Still frustrated by my plateaus!   I'm 8 lbs from my 40# goal and it's torture!  I stepped up the exercise (did 4 mile walks 3x's his week in addition to the elliptical and dog walk) bit still only lost like 3 ozs!  How's everyone else doing? - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 12:07AM
I know it's frustrating but keep going!  - disneyland4me  239.4 #1334 12:42PM
Doing well trying to train 5-6 days a week to get ready for the Disneyland half marathon. I haven't lost any weight I'm must be doing something wrong but that's OK.  - disneyland4me  239.4 #1334 12:41PM
I lost a whole 0.8 last week!  Whoo Hoo!  I've within 8 lbs of my goal weight (4 and I'm back in the 120's!) but it's like pulling teeth at this point....hey...that's an idea.  How much do teeth weigh...lol! - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 8:20PM
Lol, I once grew my hair real long so that I could donate it.  I ended up cutting 15 inches off, and got on the scale the next morning--I had lost a few pounds in 24 hours.  I had no idea how much my hair weighed! It was so funny!  😂   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 8:49AM
My hair is too short.  Too bad that there's not a blood drive in town today! - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 2:48PM
Ran my best 3 mile time in at least 5 years this morning, so I'm feeling encouraged right now.  How is your training going?  I have the same experience with my weight loss stalling--seems like when I start running a lot and for longer distances, I stop losing.  I don't know why, either.  I could eat less, but I'm starving after anything longer than 10k.  Maybe I'm just overeating.   I think several other people have said they have similar experiences, so you're not alone!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 3:56PM

Running at 5:30am isn't beating the heat anymore.

I know!  I keep trying to convince myself that the monsoonal moisture makes it feel "just like running in the morning in Hawaii," but it's really nothing like that 😂 I'm in the midst of overcast agricultural land with 105 for the high today.  It does NOT smell like Hawaii!  🙊 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 7:13PM
Your post cracked me up!  I don't even know what hawaii smells like at 5:30! - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 12:08AM
Lol, to be honest, I'm not sure I do either, but it can't be as bad as the CA cow country when it's hot and muggy. I keep thinking I'll get used to it, and I just don't 😂 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 2:42PM
I am so with you I live in agricultural community up in Northern California and it's been 100 or more and I'm still trying to train in that kind of weather has been horrible. when it's so hot I only walking three to four miles lord help me n13.1 miles in 40 days for Disneyland half - disneyland4me  239.4 #1334 5:11PM
Have you ever run a half before?  Maybe you could go to a gym to do a few long runs on a treadmill before the race?  Last year I wasn't able to run outside for two weeks because of smoky conditions from a wildfire, and that's what I did--I did a few short runs and my last long run.  It's not ideal, and it was really boring, but for me I think it was better than not doing a 12 miler before the race because I had never run that much before.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 11:51AM
No I have never ran a half. - disneyland4me  239.4 #1334 6:40PM

Hi all! I hope you're all doing well! I've been trying to get more running in since the Disneyland half marathon is coming up pretty quickly. I've actually been getting up at 5:15am twice a week to go run because it's way too hot when I get home from work. Over the holiday weekend we were at the beach but I still managed a 4 mile walk, a 6 mike run and two 10 mile bike rides.

👋 hi there!  Glad you're staying active despite the heat.  It's hard having to get up early--I'm doing pre-6 am jogs, too.  My dog is not even that excited to go at that time, lol 😂 Usually he wakes me up by dropping my sneaker by the bed, but at 5 am he's still sound asleep when my alarm goes off.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 9:56PM
Holy Cow! I think that you're doing amazing!  To tell you the truth, I wouldn't get us at 5:15 for anything!  That's why I don't think that deep down, I'm marathon material...but then again, I'm old and I'm just proud of myself to walk my dog every evening and use my elliptical most days! - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 10:25PM
I always have a goal of finishing a Half Marathon under 3 hours, and I know the way I'm running now won't get me under that goal so I have to train and I'm finding that it's easier to run in the morning. I actually feel better during the day.  - MXPrincess399  631.0 #256 10:06AM
MDM, I am a total night owl. I never thought I would get up so early unless I absolutely had to for work or to leave for the airport for a flight to Hawaii, Europe or Australia 😂  my body's gotten used to it, but I had a terrible time trying to adjust my internal clock!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 5:59PM
I give you credit SoS.  I don't think that it'll ever happen with me, but never say never! - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 11:42PM
MXPrincess, what do you do for food before your early morning runs? I have a hard time with that because is rather just get up, drink a little water and head out, but I need to eat something or else I'm running on empty.  However, everything I've read suggests eating at least 30 mins prior, but I'd rather not sit around waiting for food to digest--I'll be tempted to just go back to bed!  What do you do?  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 10:52AM
I don't eat. I get up at 5:15, drink a little water and try to be out the door by 5:30am. I do about 4 miles in the morning with a stop at the park drinking fountain at mile 2. I don't find that I feel bad or anything. Usually before a Half Marathon I'll eat a banana and some peanut butter. I never been able to eat when I first get up. I don't usually eat my oatmeal until 10am, on my first break and that's about the time I start to get hungry, running day or not.  - MXPrincess399  631.0 #256 4:59PM
Ok good to know.  I think I've been trying to eat too much because I was afraid I'd pass out or feel bad, but it doesn't sit well that early.  It makes sense to eat a bagel or something if you run later in the day, but first thing in the morning just doesn't work.  I'm going to try just having a little yogurt or string cheese and see how that works.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 8:18AM

I'm going to try again this year to do the early morning walk around DCA.  I read that you should be able to do a 15 min mile.  Since my dog is old (and sniffs EVERY single plant) we usually do a 45 min mile.  Well...he's in the kennel (because I'm headed to San Diego for 3 days to see Mom) so I decided to see how fast I can do the mile.  The results...13 min for the 1st, and 1  More...

What a fantastic goal. I've never done that. It sounds like fun.  - Mrs.mouse  515.2 #337 11:58PM

Weigh in day results: Down 2.4. Second week in a row that I have lost over 2 pounds. I am going to treat myself to some time in the parks this week. Where and what isnyour favorite place to eat?

Congratulations!  I would probably have a pear martini or tequila Daisy at Carthay Circle and dinner at either Bordwalk Pizza and Pasta (The food isn't super-duper fabulous, but it's good--I mainly just adore sitting outside in the evening there), Cafe Orleans (we love to split house salad and Monte Cristo), or Bengal Barbeque with a Dole Whip for dessert!  Now I'm hungry, lol 😂 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 9:37PM

You will love it!  And I've googled the nutritional info in the past--it's actually not that bad.  I think 1/2 cup has something like 90-100 calories and it's fairly low fat.  Problem is that my guess is that the servings are more than 1/2 cup, lol 😂 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 9:51PM

That is sooooo awesome that you've lost inches--you are very strong to be able to continue eating well and measure at a time like this!  Good job!  I have had four dogs pass away over the course of my life, and three of those four were unexpected, sudden losses--although I don't know exactly how you feel, I know how hard it is to have to experience that kind of a loss.  It's devastating, a part of the family is gone--but life keeps moving forward and people can choose to move with it.  Your new family member will bring you such joy--it will not replace Oscar, but it will fill a different kind of space in your hearts--one that you didn't even realize you had 😊 I'm so excited for your new adventure!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 9:48PM

You have done great this year! Can you mix up your meals at all?  Sometimes, I feel like trying different foods, veggies, fruits, seasonings, and spices helps me stay on track.  I get really bored otherwise.  Can you sub a big salad or something that's equivalent in calories and fat with real yummy ingredients for one of the Jenny meals?   If all else fails, keep in mind that you'll be at the Grand at the end of summer, and Joey Lawrence might be there again, so you'll want to look your best, lol!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 12:16PM

I used to weigh only once a week.  Then I thought that if I weigh daily, it might keep me on track better.  WRONG.  I did everything to plan yesterday (including exercise) and gained 1/2 lb!   I can't help that I'm a numbers person.  I'm going back to once a week so I don't freak out on a daily basis!  How often does everyone else weigh?

When I was in my early 20s, I used to weigh every day, but as I got older, I realized I was too preoccupied with the numbers.  Currently, I haven't weighed in months--I threw our scale out when I moved, lol.  I have a range I know I'm in (based on the fact that my clothes fit better than they did last winter and I'm running regularly).  It's probably better to weigh regularly, but I gotta say, it's pretty liberating not feeling like I need to know the exact number and just concentrating on eating well and exercising.  If anyone finds a nice balance, I'd love to hear more!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 10:13AM

Friends, it's been an awful week. On Friday my dog died. He was killed in a dog attack. My heart is broken into a million pieces. I loved him so much. I'm so sad. I haven't been on a ride since he died. He always went with me.

Oh my goodness, my heart is breaking for you and your family, Mrs. Mouse. I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear this.  May God comfort you through this tragedy and give you the strength to help your family.  Many prayers and positive thoughts for you 💖✨ - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 10:34AM
Mrs. mouse, I've been thinking of you all day.  When we lost our first dog, a friend gave us a copy of this poem, Rainbow Bridge.  It comforted us.  I hope you find comfort, as well 🐶✨❤️💛💚💙💜🐶http://www.legendofrainbowbridge.com/poem.html - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 7:55PM
Oh no!  How terrible!  I'm so sorry! I know our pets are like family.  - MXPrincess399  631.0 #256 12:49PM
We're all here for you Jackie!  I thought about you all night last night.  Any word on Meyer (or Nathan...or cow dog? - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 8:38PM
I put a deposit on a puppy today. He won't be ready to come home for a few weeks. Nighttime is hard, we use to cuddle a lot. I lay in bed and cry. I'm not sleeping much. Then I get up and eat. I'm not riding my bike, it's too hard without him in my basket. I'm not doing well.  - Mrs.mouse  515.2 #337 12:29AM

My emotional week has caused me to gain 3.5 pounds. I'm not proud of that. I'm trying again today.

Don't beat yourself up.  You'll get back on track.  We always do!  - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 8:47PM
Thursday and Friday went really well. I'm eating well. I haven't been able to get on my bike yet.  - Mrs.mouse  515.2 #337 12:54AM

📣Hello out there! Lol, it's like a ghost town in here, and I don't really have anything of particular quality to add, but I thought I'd start a new thread. 😂 How is everyone? I'm just plodding along, doing Pilates, kettlebells and running. It's a great workout combo for me. I'm probably eating a little too much (as per usual) but life is good!

I know!  What happened to our loyal Chubb 33'ers!  I know that Vicki is on FB a lot - I'll have to try to convince her to come back and join us! I'm back in my diet mode.  20 min on the elliptical and 1,000 reps on my "ButtMaster" every day (not sure it does anything but I figure it can't hurt and I might as well do something when I'm on the computer all day!).  I'll be at the park in a little less than 2 months.  Still have my fingers crossed that I lose the last 10 lbs by then!  Oh, and thank you again for your words about the benefit of regular exercise.  I really took them to heart! - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 4:34PM
Glad you're back in the "zone!"  Is a buttmaster the Suzanne Somers thing?  I'm glad to help!  I got carried away and write a lot, lol!  :).  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 11:02PM
Yep.  I don't know if it works, but what the heck... - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 3:03PM
Can't hurt to try!  Seems like she sold millions of those, so they must be effective!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 8:20AM
Doing OK! How is your training going? Mine is so so! Not enough hours in the day for me!  - disneyland4me  239.4 #1334 10:26PM
It's going, lol.  I got derailed for a few days last week with a minor cold--I kept running, but took it very easy and skipped my long run.  Feeling better now, phew!  Yeah, it's really hard to schedule running around life, especially since it's getting hotter.  I have to be careful to go out early and that means I have to get up early!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 11:01PM
Hi i am back to try again. I am using a fitbit with the dashboard app and it is working. I just put in a link in another post about Ghiradelli ice-cream nutrition facts. They did not have any whe I asked there but email to the main corporation came back with that they use dryer's ice-cream so that info is on line. yeah!! - Plumiegirl  7674.9 #3 8:46PM
Hi Plumie! Welcome back :)  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 10:54PM
I am checking in to chub33 for the first time! And it feels weird.  I have always been thin, and never had to worry about my weight.  That was until my son started kindergarten and I gained what I called the "kindergarten 15". I am a stay at home mom so I kind of sat around a bit too much while he was in school. First grade added another 10, and now I need to lose 25 pounds. I barely recognize myself.  I eat healthy, but I don't eat enough- I tend to not eat all day and then have one big meal. I am trying to get better at eating more throughout the day.  I just don't get hungry throughout the day so it is hard. I am hoping that y'all can help with some accountability and help on how to do all this since it is new to me.  Trying to lose weight for the first time at 36 is kind of intimidating. - Thumper13  339.7 #604 6:28PM
Welcome Thumper13!  If you think it's hard at 36, wait until you're my age (50+)!  It's ridiculous!  Are you following a plan? There's a lot of people on Weight Watchers - I'm a Jenny Craig person!  Let us know how you're doing! - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 8:29PM
Thank you! I can't believe you are over 50! You look fabulous!  Food isn't really my issue, it's getting off of my butt and exercising.  It's funny, I love to cook healthy meals, but I never work out. I think I will start with walking. - Thumper13  339.7 #604 8:59PM
Welcome to chub33!  We all have different goals and plans, but what we have in common is an interest in healthy living and a love of Disney.  I understand what you mean about exercising--I've found that making goals (like signing up for the DL half marathon) helps me stick to a stricter exercise plan.  If I don't have a goal, I tend to either not workout much, or choose workouts that don't really challenge me.  Then I get bored, lol.  So, my advice is to make goals for yourself!  Writing them down really helps, to! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 10:54PM
What kind of goals should I set? Right now my main goal is to look better and be healthier by our next visit in October, but should I set small ones throughout? I don't expect to lose the full 25 by then but I would like to not be as sore at the end of a disney day. - Thumper13  339.7 #604 12:36PM
My goal is always to lose whatever weight I want to lose by my summer DL vacation (I'm going in 6 weeks and still technically have about 8 to go!).  My goal after that is to keep it off so I will be able to fit in my Maleficent Halloween costume! - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 8:42PM
One big goal with smaller, manageable goals works best for me (kinda the one step at a time approach).  So, if my overall goal is to finish the half marathon, I set smaller weekly goals for myself.  For example, I had 3 bouts of bronchitis this year (very uncommon for me), so I knew that training for the half would be difficult because my lungs were weaker than they were last year.  My first week's goal was just to jog 1/2 mile without stopping, going as slowly as I needed, and walk the rest of my workout. Five weeks ago, I really struggled with that.  Then, I focused on increasing the walk : jog ratio, and now that I'm stronger, I'm focusing on speed work and longer distances each week.  So, if your goal is walking and weight loss, then you might start out walking a certain number of miles, and as you progress, play with speed, distance, or add in hills on different days of the week.  Training for races really keeps me going--it's a tangible goal. I recommend finding a walking buddy, if possible, and signing up for something like a 1 mile fun run/walk, 5K fun run/walk, or a cancer walk a thon (or other kind of fundraiser). Good luck!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  507.5 #343 11:14PM

Hey everyone! Hope you are all doing well. I'm still trying to get back on track. With the Disneyland Half Marathon coming up fast I rally need to start running again. I got new running shoes last night and plan to test them out after work. I can't remember, but will any of you be at DL for the race?

Awesome!  Did they come with the wings?  I'm finally back on track - with exercising and eating.  Still waiting for the dramatic results though (my new mantra is "slow and steady wins the race").  If I lived closer I'd definitely be in the 5k... - msdizmaui  581.6 #286 4:30PM
Nope, I added the wings. :-) - MXPrincess399  631.0 #256 10:57AM
I'm going to be there! This will be my first half marathon. Your new running shoes look cool. Good luck with your training - disneyland4me  239.4 #1334 10:29PM
Good luck with your first Half. The 2010 Disneyland Half was my first. This will be my 13th!   - MXPrincess399  631.0 #256 10:58AM
I'm running the Dumbo Double Dare again. I had a baby 6 weeks ago so I just started running again this week. I'm so slow now but I'm hoping to be back at my regular pace by then. I love your shoes! - PirateQueenBriezy  294.7 #817 8:21PM
