Hi all! I hope you're all doing well! I've been trying to get more running in since the Disneyland half marathon is coming up pretty quickly. I've actually been getting up at 5:15am twice a week to go run because it's way too hot when I get home from work. Over the holiday weekend we were at the beach but I still managed a 4 mile walk, a 6 mike run and two 10 mile bike rides.

👋 hi there!  Glad you're staying active despite the heat.  It's hard having to get up early--I'm doing pre-6 am jogs, too.  My dog is not even that excited to go at that time, lol 😂 Usually he wakes me up by dropping my sneaker by the bed, but at 5 am he's still sound asleep when my alarm goes off.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 9:56PM
Holy Cow! I think that you're doing amazing!  To tell you the truth, I wouldn't get us at 5:15 for anything!  That's why I don't think that deep down, I'm marathon material...but then again, I'm old and I'm just proud of myself to walk my dog every evening and use my elliptical most days! - msdizmaui  577.8 #284 10:25PM
I always have a goal of finishing a Half Marathon under 3 hours, and I know the way I'm running now won't get me under that goal so I have to train and I'm finding that it's easier to run in the morning. I actually feel better during the day.  - MXPrincess399  630.8 #253 10:06AM
MDM, I am a total night owl. I never thought I would get up so early unless I absolutely had to for work or to leave for the airport for a flight to Hawaii, Europe or Australia 😂  my body's gotten used to it, but I had a terrible time trying to adjust my internal clock!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 5:59PM
I give you credit SoS.  I don't think that it'll ever happen with me, but never say never! - msdizmaui  577.8 #284 11:42PM
MXPrincess, what do you do for food before your early morning runs? I have a hard time with that because is rather just get up, drink a little water and head out, but I need to eat something or else I'm running on empty.  However, everything I've read suggests eating at least 30 mins prior, but I'd rather not sit around waiting for food to digest--I'll be tempted to just go back to bed!  What do you do?  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 10:52AM
I don't eat. I get up at 5:15, drink a little water and try to be out the door by 5:30am. I do about 4 miles in the morning with a stop at the park drinking fountain at mile 2. I don't find that I feel bad or anything. Usually before a Half Marathon I'll eat a banana and some peanut butter. I never been able to eat when I first get up. I don't usually eat my oatmeal until 10am, on my first break and that's about the time I start to get hungry, running day or not.  - MXPrincess399  630.8 #253 4:59PM
Ok good to know.  I think I've been trying to eat too much because I was afraid I'd pass out or feel bad, but it doesn't sit well that early.  It makes sense to eat a bagel or something if you run later in the day, but first thing in the morning just doesn't work.  I'm going to try just having a little yogurt or string cheese and see how that works.   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 8:18AM

I'm going to try again this year to do the early morning walk around DCA.  I read that you should be able to do a 15 min mile.  Since my dog is old (and sniffs EVERY single plant) we usually do a 45 min mile.  Well...he's in the kennel (because I'm headed to San Diego for 3 days to see Mom) so I decided to see how fast I can do the mile.  The results...13 min for the 1st, and 1  More...

What a fantastic goal. I've never done that. It sounds like fun.  - Mrs.mouse  515.0 #333 11:58PM
Last February when I stayed at the Grand I had every intention to get up in the morning and do this walk. Unfortunately early entry and closing out the parts each night got in the way. But one day for sure I want to do this.  - MXPrincess399  630.8 #253 7:30AM
That's great!  Wow, a 13 min mile walking is impressive--that's sometimes my jogging pace!  Great job!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 10:48AM

Weigh in day results: Down 2.4. Second week in a row that I have lost over 2 pounds. I am going to treat myself to some time in the parks this week. Where and what isnyour favorite place to eat?

Congratulations!  I would probably have a pear martini or tequila Daisy at Carthay Circle and dinner at either Bordwalk Pizza and Pasta (The food isn't super-duper fabulous, but it's good--I mainly just adore sitting outside in the evening there), Cafe Orleans (we love to split house salad and Monte Cristo), or Bengal Barbeque with a Dole Whip for dessert!  Now I'm hungry, lol 😂 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 9:37PM
Thank you! I think I am going to treat myself to my first ever Dole Whip!! - LuvsTigger  632.7 #251 2:49PM
You will love it!  And I've googled the nutritional info in the past--it's actually not that bad.  I think 1/2 cup has something like 90-100 calories and it's fairly low fat.  Problem is that my guess is that the servings are more than 1/2 cup, lol 😂 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 9:51PM
That's awesome!  What a great loss.  I love to eat in disneyland as much as anything else. My favorite meal is fried chicken. I only get to the park a few times a year. I also love the bake potato soup. Yummy. Enjoy.  - Mrs.mouse  515.0 #333 4:09PM

First of all CONGRATS on the 39lb loss!  That's awesome!  I LOVE the pic in the lower left hand corner ("that's the same as a Wheaten Terrier"). That is sooooo awesome that you've lost inches--you are very strong to be able to continue eating well and measure at a time like this!  Good job!  I have had four dogs pass away over the course of my life, and three of those four were unexpected, sudden losses--although I don't know exactly how you feel, I know how hard it is to have to experience that kind of a loss.  It's devastating, a part of the family is gone--but life keeps moving forward and people can choose to move with it.  Your new family member will bring you such joy--it will not replace Oscar, but it will fill a different kind of space in your hearts--one that you didn't even realize you had 😊 I'm so excited for your new adventure!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 9:48PM

Hi thundermountaingal, I think you just misunderstood how it works!  You log on whenever you are able to and answer the questions that are ready for you, then you wait until the other person/people answer the same question you answered.  Then the results are revealed, at which time everyone needs to view the results, before the next question is answered.  It sounds like it might not be what you are looking for, but you might still give it a try. I have a couple games that are over a week old and we are maybe halfway through the questions.  People get to it when they are able to, and as long as you are patient, you should be able to have fun.  If you have a bunch of games going at the same time, then you will have more activity throughout the day/night, depending when you play!  Also, if you have a game with 3 or more people, that will go even slower, so you would probably only want to play one on one games.  You can also play a single player game, which is found under the "Local Game" tab and then you would just select Single Player and then choose your trivia pack and start the game!  I set up a game with you so you can see what I mean regarding the multi-player games!  If you don't choose to accept it I will just delete it in a few days, no big deal!  I hope you have a nice day and I hope this helped explain it better :0)   - zenderella  408.7 #458 8:22AM

You have done great this year! Can you mix up your meals at all?  Sometimes, I feel like trying different foods, veggies, fruits, seasonings, and spices helps me stay on track.  I get really bored otherwise.  Can you sub a big salad or something that's equivalent in calories and fat with real yummy ingredients for one of the Jenny meals?   If all else fails, keep in mind that you'll be at the Grand at the end of summer, and Joey Lawrence might be there again, so you'll want to look your best, lol!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 12:16PM
here is goes, every day is another chance to get it right, start over, or begin again. Start again. Tell yourself to eat clean because unless you make it, it will be impossible to find over the counter unless you have a special place to get healthy foods. I used to weigh only once a week.  Then I thought that if I weigh daily, it might keep me on track better.  WRONG.  I did everything to plan yesterday (including exercise) and gained 1/2 lb!   I can't help that I'm a numbers person.  I'm going back to once a week so I don't freak out on a daily basis!  How often does everyone else weigh?

When I was in my early 20s, I used to weigh every day, but as I got older, I realized I was too preoccupied with the numbers.  Currently, I haven't weighed in months--I threw our scale out when I moved, lol.  I have a range I know I'm in (based on the fact that my clothes fit better than they did last winter and I'm running regularly).  It's probably better to weigh regularly, but I gotta say, it's pretty liberating not feeling like I need to know the exact number and just concentrating on eating well and exercising.  If anyone finds a nice balance, I'd love to hear more!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 10:13AM
I've done both. Now I weigh in 2 or 3 times a week.  When I did weigh in daily the small ups and downs messed with my head too much. I'm too impatient to wait a full week.  - Mrs.mouse  515.0 #333 10:28AM

📣Hello out there! Lol, it's like a ghost town in here, and I don't really have anything of particular quality to add, but I thought I'd start a new thread. 😂 How is everyone? I'm just plodding along, doing Pilates, kettlebells and running. It's a great workout combo for me. I'm probably eating a little too much (as per usual) but life is good!

I know!  What happened to our loyal Chubb 33'ers!  I know that Vicki is on FB a lot - I'll have to try to convince her to come back and join us! I'm back in my diet mode.  20 min on the elliptical and 1,000 reps on my "ButtMaster" every day (not sure it does anything but I figure it can't hurt and I might as well do something when I'm on the computer all day!).  I'll be at the park in a little less than 2 months.  Still have my fingers crossed that I lose the last 10 lbs by then!  Oh, and thank you again for your words about the benefit of regular exercise.  I really took them to heart! - msdizmaui  577.8 #284 4:34PM

Hi Plumie! Welcome back :)  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 10:54PM
I am checking in to chub33 for the first time! And it feels weird.  I have always been thin, and never had to worry about my weight.  That was until my son started kindergarten and I gained what I called the "kindergarten 15". I am a stay at home mom so I kind of sat around a bit too much while he was in school. First grade added another 10, and now I need to lose 25 pounds. I barely recognize myself.  I eat healthy, but I don't eat enough- I tend to not eat all day and then have one big meal. I am trying to get better at eating more throughout the day.  I just don't get hungry throughout the day so it is hard. I am hoping that y'all can help with some accountability and help on how to do all this since it is new to me.  Trying to lose weight for the first time at 36 is kind of intimidating. - Thumper13  334.4 #621 6:28PM
Welcome Thumper13!  If you think it's hard at 36, wait until you're my age (50+)!  It's ridiculous!  Are you following a plan? There's a lot of people on Weight Watchers - I'm a Jenny Craig person!  Let us know how you're doing! - msdizmaui  577.8 #284 8:29PM
Thank you! I can't believe you are over 50! You look fabulous!  Food isn't really my issue, it's getting off of my butt and exercising.  It's funny, I love to cook healthy meals, but I never work out. I think I will start with walking. - Thumper13  334.4 #621 8:59PM
Welcome to chub33!  We all have different goals and plans, but what we have in common is an interest in healthy living and a love of Disney.  I understand what you mean about exercising--I've found that making goals (like signing up for the DL half marathon) helps me stick to a stricter exercise plan.  If I don't have a goal, I tend to either not workout much, or choose workouts that don't really challenge me.  Then I get bored, lol.  So, my advice is to make goals for yourself!  Writing them down really helps, to! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 10:54PM
What kind of goals should I set? Right now my main goal is to look better and be healthier by our next visit in October, but should I set small ones throughout? I don't expect to lose the full 25 by then but I would like to not be as sore at the end of a disney day. - Thumper13  334.4 #621 12:36PM
My goal is always to lose whatever weight I want to lose by my summer DL vacation (I'm going in 6 weeks and still technically have about 8 to go!).  My goal after that is to keep it off so I will be able to fit in my Maleficent Halloween costume! - msdizmaui  577.8 #284 8:42PM
One big goal with smaller, manageable goals works best for me (kinda the one step at a time approach).  So, if my overall goal is to finish the half marathon, I set smaller weekly goals for myself.  For example, I had 3 bouts of bronchitis this year (very uncommon for me), so I knew that training for the half would be difficult because my lungs were weaker than they were last year.  My first week's goal was just to jog 1/2 mile without stopping, going as slowly as I needed, and walk the rest of my workout. Five weeks ago, I really struggled with that.  Then, I focused on increasing the walk : jog ratio, and now that I'm stronger, I'm focusing on speed work and longer distances each week.  So, if your goal is walking and weight loss, then you might start out walking a certain number of miles, and as you progress, play with speed, distance, or add in hills on different days of the week.  Training for races really keeps me going--it's a tangible goal. I recommend finding a walking buddy, if possible, and signing up for something like a 1 mile fun run/walk, 5K fun run/walk, or a cancer walk a thon (or other kind of fundraiser). Good luck!  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 11:14PM

Hey everyone! Hope you are all doing well. I'm still trying to get back on track. With the Disneyland Half Marathon coming up fast I rally need to start running again. I got new running shoes last night and plan to test them out after work. I can't remember, but will any of you be at DL for the race?

Awesome!  Did they come with the wings?  I'm finally back on track - with exercising and eating.  Still waiting for the dramatic results though (my new mantra is "slow and steady wins the race").  If I lived closer I'd definitely be in the 5k... - msdizmaui  577.8 #284 4:30PM
Nope, I added the wings. :-) - MXPrincess399  630.8 #253 10:57AM
I'm going to be there! This will be my first half marathon. Your new running shoes look cool. Good luck with your training - disneyland4me  239.3 #1333 10:29PM

I'm running the Dumbo Double Dare again. I had a baby 6 weeks ago so I just started running again this week. I'm so slow now but I'm hoping to be back at my regular pace by then. I love your shoes! - PirateQueenBriezy  294.2 #816 8:21PM

I'm so excited! I won a prize on HSNs arcade games! I never win anything, and I only play the games to keep from eating at night!

So silly that I'm so excited...my prize is 3 lip crayons valued at $54...not the lottery!  Still, it proves that the whole thing is legit (some of the prizes are really good!). - msdizmaui  577.8 #284 6:35PM

I'm still riding my trike around. I haven't lost any weight or inches yet. It's very frustrating.

Keep riding!! Even if you don't lose anything, it's good to be out and getting exercise! - LuvsTigger  632.7 #251 6:23PM
I'm sorry, mrs.mouse.  Keep riding!  Remember that regular exercise has so many benefits: just getting your heart rate up and working your lungs helps decrease your chance for lots of diseases and cancers in the future.  Each rotation of your pedal moves you forward, health wise, even if you don't see it reflected on the scale.  Plus, it's keeping you from gaining :)  We are so proud of you and happy that you found an exercise that brings you happiness!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 6:34PM
Very good advice for all of us! - msdizmaui  577.8 #284 12:58AM
I'm not someone who loses weight easily, so I kinda had to come to terms with it (some people just have to cut out soda and start walking a mile a day and can lose 10 pounds like *that*--I am not one of those people!).  I really think that as a society, we should try to relax and actually enjoy exercise and focus on well being, rather than weight loss, because weight loss just doesn't happen sometimes.  However, it's been proven time and again that long term exercise is crucial for overall health now and in one's future.  Society kind of teaches us that exercise equals weight loss, but it's not necessarily true (female Olympic athletes are rarely skinny, and often their BMI falls in the "overweight" category--but they exercise more than most people work at a full time job each week, lol).   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 7:55PM

Sparkle Skirt question! I know a lot of you have Sparkle Skirts. I want one, but I'm not sure about the sizing. Do they run true to size? Are there styles or designs you like better? Thanks!

Thanks ladies. I'm looking forward to getting a pair to use when I go on my bike rides. I saw MXprincess399's photo wearing one and I loved it.   - Mrs.mouse  515.0 #333 8:53AM
Which one are you gonna get?  I have been drooling over the Tiffany blue one with the rhinestone bow, lol.    - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 12:19PM
I love my Sparkle Skirts!  I wear them to run and for everyday wear. Since September I've bought 9!  I feel like their size chart is accurate. I wear a medium. Check out the SparkleSkirt Princesses group in Facebook. People are always selling slightly used skirts for less than a new one.  - MXPrincess399  630.8 #253 11:20AM

I just looked at the website.  I LOVE the built in zipper pocket.  Only trouble is that I'm very self conscious about my upper legs (how do you tighten up the top of your legs above your knees!).  I'd need one that came down to my knees and then it would look weird.  God love you all that can wear them, but I have to stick to capris! (unless someone has an exercise to help...how did I ever end up with fat knees!?!) - msdizmaui  577.8 #284 1:29PM
They have ones called Hikers that are a few inches longer. Or people wear capris or running tights under them.  - MXPrincess399  630.8 #253 11:41PM

Hello how is everyone doing? I'm getting nervous about the Disney half marathon. I have never ran that far. I hope I will be able to finish in time.

Hi!  I'm doing well.  Had a few REALLY lousy runs last week, but did my first long run of my training program today (5 miles) and felt good and finished strong.  So I'm encouraged.  Don't worry about not having run 13 miles yet: build up your mileage slowly. Most training programs for beginners and intermediates seem to only have one or two 13 milers in the whole thing.  I was really nervous about that last year, too.  I had only ever done an 11 miler outside, and my 12 miler had to be done inside on a treadmill because we had a huge forest fire and it wasn't safe to exercise in the smoke.  I was very nervous about the distance, but I did fine.  Are you using Jeff Galloway's program?  His will prepare you wonderfully--trust it on race day!   - Spoonful_O_Sugar  505.3 #343 6:13PM
Glad all is well! Thank you for the information. Good luck with your training! I just need to stay positive.  - disneyland4me  239.3 #1333 7:52PM
P.s it might also help if I lose 15-20 pounds :) - disneyland4me  239.3 #1333 8:53PM
