What happened to the bamboo poll in Indy that makes the roof fall when you pull on it?

It's like Penguinn alluded to, the pole seems to have a mind of it's own and is kind of temperamental. The worst is when you are eyeing it, waiting for the precise moment to give it a yank and scare all the people around you with the loud crash sound it triggers...and then the person in front of you grabs the bamboo pole and ruins your fun!
