So i have a question: Costco is selling a 4 day park hopper ticket with a $50.00 Disney gift card for $199.00 can I use the park hopper the first day and upgrade to an annual pass and also use the gift card towards it to? Suggestions?..
The ticket should say whether it is upgradable or not.. - KelBelle

I believe Disney Dollars are for merchandise only. Gift card = D$? Anyone? - Tom

I remember reading something about that somewhere, and that you could only get $140 towards an upgrade - TinkPen

The upgrade value of the tickets is $140. But you should be able to use the gift card toward the upgrade as well. - PlaidCM

Would this be a good deal or no? - jb91

That's what I did 2 years ago - upgraded to a deluxe and put the gift card to attach parking onto my AP. - KristenK98

What the heck? I was just at Costco yesterday and they didn't have this deal! - dLittleMermaid

So if you get $140 towards an upgrade with a $50 gift card, that's $190 towards an AP but you paid $199 for it, so you're losing out on $9, correct me if I'm wrong but that sounds like a bad deal - KelBelle

@k98: thats exactly what i wanna do.
@dittle: I work at Costco :D they have it at mostly all Socal stores i believe and online. - jb91

A 4 day park hopper on the DL website is only $201. For the extra $2 I'd buy from DL and use the full value to upgrade. It's only $11 but that's 3 churros and 50 cents left over. - BlueberryCrusader

@KelBelle, that's assuming TinkPen is right, ALSO, there's going to be taxes paid at Costco that won't be going towards the AP. - cenicienta

But like Jaimz said the price at the park is $201 so and you get full value for upgrade so you only pay $2 more but get to use $11 more towards upgrade - KelBelle

Well, that would be why - I love in NorCal! I just found the deal online, unfortunately I don't have a SoCal ID to shoe when redeeming... To bad, it's a good deal. I would have liked to saved some money on my Dec trip. - dLittleMermaid

From the Costco Product Details: $151 assigned value of the 4 Day Disneyland® Park Hopper ticket, and a credit of $151 will be given if such ticket is used at the Main Entrance to upgrade to a higher value ticket. - cenicienta

so am i better off buying it from disney eventhough costco gives u the 50.00 card? - jb91

Yes. I don't believe the DL website charges sales tax where as Costco will. And that tax is money lost. - BlueberryCrusader

So with an upgrade value of $151 and $50 gift card you get the same amount as if you buy it at the park, but it will end up costing more at costco with sales tax, so buying at Disney is a better deal - KelBelle

Tax is not charged on the DL passes at Costco. It is $199.99. So technically you only save $1.01 by buying from Costco. The advantage is that you have until may 31,2011 to use the 4 days, versus 13 days from first use on the 4 day hoppers from DL directly. If you are surely planning to upgrade to an AP anyways, then no real price difference. Issue would be type of pass you upgrade to and when you plan to use it. Since they backdate the AP to the first day of use, you might get more flexibility by getting the Costco pass if the 4 days of usage are spread out. - Ht

Ht your timeframes are off. You have 13 days from first use on both the Costco passes and those bought from DL directly. The Costco passes must have their FIRST use by May 31st and the DL tickets must have First use by December 31st. - BlueberryCrusader

Actually Jaimz, the Costco ones do not have to be used within 13 days. Verified this before my friends bought it and have used it one day each of the last 2 months. That is the unique benefit of the Costco ticket. - Ht

And all 4 visits must be used by May 31. Since they technically say it's limited to so cal residents, it's how they try to get more local residents into the parks with more flexibility. - Ht

Ok. Thanks for the clarification on that. I retract my statement that your time frames were off. - BlueberryCrusader
