With the craziness of the Reunion happening this weekend, and over a week with very little sleep due to our new server upgrade/migration, I have been so far behind on everything it's unreal. I wanted to sit down and write a proper response to what happened the other day.
Please know that I am deeply sorry for the glitch that happened in the Lounge the other day. It was the absolute last thing I would ever want to happen. I sincerely apologize to the MouseWaiters who were a part of this problem. We have always done everything in our power to protect privacy--I've spent thousands of dollars and tons of man hours creating a place that is a safe as it can possibly be (ask people like Dave, Coaster, Duchess, Sonja, Bullseye, and others who've been here since Day One). Each month, we make hundreds of modifications to our system in an attempt to improve performance and fix bugs. In almost five years we've never had a situation like this happen (post-user logins). I know our track record doesn't make it better for the people who had their direct messages exposed, and I am not trying to make excuses for what happened, but I want everyone to know that we never make haphazard changes to our code that could potentially jeopardize private info.
This is what happened: after the move to our new dedicated system last week, it became necessary to tune our Litespeed server by activating caching. This is a routine adjustment from our server admin and to my knowledge, a change from our server side has NEVER affected our site code. Adjustments made by our server admins are considered "safe changes" and they don't require our developers to be present. The modification by our server admin caused some user pages to be cached, so if you happened to be in the Lounge at the time, and then pressed on Notifications, you could see that user's notifications, including any DMs. The Lounge randomly switched between several users for a period of about an hour. To my knowledge, there was no way to target a specific user's Notifications through searching. I first learned of this while I was on the road at 5:13pm and I immediately sent messages out to our team to fix this problem. By 5:22pm my server admin responded after removing the previous modifications. By 5:28pm I verified that the problem was resolved on my mobile device.
As a precaution, I have cleared ALL DMs from the Lounge from 5-13 back to the beginning (this happened last night). We are also looking into making it easier to delete DMs, and a possible auto-delete feature.
It is important to know (which was the point of my original post) that our system was not "breached" or attacked by anyone. No one broke in and sifted through user accounts. The glitch did not affect all users. I rapidly drafted my original post to dispel any rumors about an alleged breach.
Please remember, that according to our terms, we have never recommended sharing private information on MouseWait. I designed DMs to be a way to further relationships with other MWers--not to store private information. If you choose to send or store private information on MW then you do so at your own risk. No matter how many layers of security we have added over the years, this is the Internet, and anytime you post something on ANY site, there is a remote possibility that your information could be compromised.
Again, I apologize to the MouseWaiters who were affected by this and we will do everything in our power to make sure it never happens again.

Disneyland unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. The unFORECAST now has its own page on the web www.unFORECAST.com
unFORECAST for the week of Aug 3, 2015 It's going to be HOT at Disneyland this week with weather in the high 80s. Looking back at MouseWait's Historical Crowd Index (available in our new MagicPlan iOS Calendar), this week last year averaged in the low 70s (approx 70% capacity), which is light for summer crowds. We expect it to be busier this week, however the hot weather does play a factor in crowd level as it tends to keep the locals away. To get a real-time look at crowd levels, check the MouseWait app for Crowd Index averages and wait times. Have a great week! - Admin Aug 3, 2015 11:58AM
