Good evening! This day in Disney history, May 5th, 2004: 10 years ago today, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror officially opens in DCA.
According to Disney Parks Blog:
"Inspired by the genius of Rod Serling and the creators of the iconic anthology series “The Twilight Zone,” The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror recalls the disappearance of five unlucky souls on a gloomy Halloween night in 1939 Hollywood “amid the glitz and glamour of a bustling young movie town at the height of its golden age.”
The night before the attraction’s official opening, Disney hosted a red carpet premiere in Hollywood Land to celebrate.
"The opening ceremony was hosted by the Hollywood Tower Hotel bellhop (nicknamed “Buddy”) you may remember from many of the television commercials created for the attraction in 2004. He was joined during the ceremony by Rod Serling’s wife, Carol Serling, who told the audience how thrilled her late husband would be with the attraction. She then invited everyone to “step into a ‘lost episode’ of ‘The Twilight Zone.’”
While similar in concept and theme to the original Tower of Terror in Florida, this version has been redesigned in order to conserve space and money. Reaching 183 feet, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is made of more than 900 tons of steel, 1,600 cubic yards of concrete, 50,000 square feet of exterior plaster and about two miles of HV DC power cable. It features three elevator shafts. Each shaft, in theory, is its own separate ride with its own separate operating system. Doing this made it easier to repair individual areas of the attraction without causing the entire attraction to "go down" (pun intended). Each shaft has 2 vehicles and 2 loading levels. It is designed so that the lower vehicle can be in profile while the upper vehicle is loading, making the attraction much more efficient. The ride is about 2 minutes and 28 seconds long. When all the elevators are in use 1,543 people per hour can ride. Since each vehicle loads and unloads from the same point, it also saves space. Since this system works so much more efficiently, it is the system used in both the Paris and Tokyo versions of the attraction.
Have you tried any of the other versions? Perhaps in WDW? Which version do you prefer and why?

Disneyland unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. The unFORECAST now has its own page on the web www.unFORECAST.com
unFORECAST for the week of September 29, 2015 Mickey's Halloween Party has an interesting effect on crowd levels. This week, Disneyland will close early on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to host the party. Disneyland Park crowds are usually lighter on party days (with the exception of Friday). Last weekend was very busy, while this Monday was not. Looking back at MouseWait's Historical Crowd Index (available in our MagicPlan iOS Calendar), this week last year averaged in the low 60s (approx 60% capacity). Important note when comparing last year's Crowd Index: we've seen larger crowds on average this year due to the 60th Celebration activities. To get a real-time look at crowd levels, check the MouseWait App for Crowd Index averages and wait times. Have a great week! - Admin Sep 29, 2015 11:33AM
