Best Post of the Day 4-10-14
Good morning! This day in Disneyland history, April 10th, 1988: at the end of the day, Disneyland's "America Sings", housed in The Carousel Theater, (operating since June 1974) closes in Tomorrowland.

America Sings was a 24 minute patriotic musical production that included a cast of over 100 Audio Animatronic characters! Enter one of six identical theaters, and have a seat. Sam the Eagle, with the voice of Burl Ives, will be your host as your theater rotates around a central axis in six stops. The two-level building, only used the lower floor. The PeopleMover trains passed through the SuperSpeed Tunnel on the upper floor.

To watch the show:

According to yesterland.com:
The first big act takes place in a swamp in the Deep South...

The Swamp Boys sing “Polly Wolly Doodle.”

the swamp boys

The denizens of the swamp sing “Down by the Riverside.”

fox

The geese sing “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad.”

The second big act is set on a moonlit plain of the Old West...

Saddlesore Swanson sings “The Old Chisholm Trail.”

The third big act is performed in a 1890's ballroom...
Ta-ra-ra Boom-de-ay!

boomdeay

The final big act takes place in a back alley of a twentieth-century city and finally after reprising “Yankee Doodle” one last time, Sam the Eagle urges you and everyone else in the audience to join in for “Auld Lang Syne.” You’re back in a simple theater that looks similar to the one you first entered, but it’s actually the exit theater. The show is over. Exit from the Carousel Theater to a jazzy version of “Stars and Stripes Forever.” (all songs titles and photos are from yesterland.com to read the lyrics click here)

After a run of almost 14 years, twice as long as it predecessor (The Carousel of Progress). America Sings closed permanently April 10th, 1988.  In 1989, almost all the critters from America Sings were moved to Critter Country and Splash Mountain. This Splash Mountain porcupine ( pictured on the bottom right of the main photo below) was once a drummer in America Sings. According to BBM, “some of the ducks animatronics are in IASW” as well.

The Carousel Theater will be used as office space for the next ten years before finally being replaced by Innoventions in 1998.

Not enough history for you? Learn more about The Carousel Thearter, America Sings and other audio Animatronic Disney projects here in this extinct attractions history video:

Do you remember this attraction? What did you think of it? Did you have a favorite song? Or maybe a character?

Thanks so much for reading and watching! Hope you all have a terrific Thursday!

Hoping to see lots of photos from the It's A Small World celebration today! Which by the way, was created by WED Enterprises in record time for the 1964 New York World's Fair. Then moved and re-built at Disneyland after the World's Fair closed in 1966. It opened in Disneyland May 28th, 1966. I'm sure a few of you were confused how it could be 50 years, so there you have it. ;)  I'll have to make a special post about it in May for it's birthday at Disneyland. :)

I remember this fondly, though I only went on it once. I think I liked it so much because I love those old songs- when I was younger, my parent's cars never seemed to have radios (I cannot imagine life without sirius xmπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) so we always sang- among them were a few of these songs. Thanks so much for posting this – I will watch the video later when I have a little more time. I am also looking very forward to IASW today!! 😘 - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5214.9 #17 7:57AM
😳 I know how you love your tunes churro! That must have been torturous! πŸ˜‚ hope you enjoy the videos! Oh and also hope you get to ride IASW! 😍 - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 1:25PM
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚it was all we knew, happy memories😊😊 - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5214.9 #17 2:03PM

😊 thank you! So happy you enjoyed it! πŸ‘ - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 9:28AM
I remember this!  It was a great place to go and cool off!  My grandparents would take us to DL every summer and this was Grandmas favorite.  Wasn't there a "Pop goes the weasel" part.  That always had me giggling.   - AZDisney  610.3 #296 7:51AM
I didn't get to enjoy it myself, but others have indeed confirmed there was a "pop goes the weasel" part! 😊good memory!  - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 11:52AM
Thanks as always for your very informative posts! - DreadPiratesRogers  844.7 #195 7:56AM
Thanks for letting me know you enjoy them! 😘 - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 1:23PM
I remember this! I thought it was neat how the audience rotated around the stages, rather than the stages moving!  My favorite character was the weasel who said, "pop goes the weasel," and I would always be looking for him to show up and not really pay attention to the rest of the show, lol!  Thanks for another great history lesson, @Duchess_SMK!  And it was so great to meet you last weekend, although I wish we could have had more time to chat! - zenderella  408.9 #497 8:29AM
I remember that guy! - philliprocks  1106.9 #147 9:19AM
Seems like that weasel was white popular! ☺️ Thanks for sharing that! Yes! Loved meeting you! Sorry I didn't get more time with you! Hopefully in May at the meetup we can hang more! 😘 - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 1:27PM
Yes! Have fond memories of it growing up, enjoying it with my Grandparents. That and the Country Bear Jamboree were my Grandpas favorites.  - DisneylandOrBust  408.1 #0 8:47AM
πŸ‘ that's so neat! Did you have a favorite song from the attraction?  - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 1:28PM
I loved America Sings , but the red, white and blue polyester jumpsuit was see flu to wear in the summer when you were outside...thank god for the air conditioner inside the attraction! - BombFrogFormerCM  845.3 #194 8:50AM
πŸ˜³πŸ™ˆπŸ˜ see through you say? Oh wow! πŸ˜‚ That building does have quite the amazing cooling system! One of our favorite places to cool off and escape the crowds!  - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 1:29PM
Oh how I hate "auto correct"...  Yes the costumes were see-thru in that some showed if you were wearing an undershirt for the guys (not to mention if you wore boxes vs briefs), the ladies had it worse though...plus the costumes didn't breathe so it was a sweat feat if you were outside for any period of time - BombFrogFormerCM  845.3 #194 3:10PM
I figured that's what you meant. ::giggles:: man, I'm over grated just reading that! Poor cms!  - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 6:58PM
The best costumes in the late '80s were Star Tours, Space Mountain and People Mover/Jets/Mars... - BombFrogFormerCM  845.3 #194 7:24PM
That's why I enjoy Splash Mountain more than my kids do. Β Although they love that ride, it has a special meaning for me. - potatohead25  604.4 #298 9:10AM
Yesssss! Not everyone gets that. America sings reminds me of the times we used to go to DL with my dad. And splash mountain reminds me of that - philliprocks  1106.9 #147 9:20AM
Cool. - potatohead25  604.4 #298 9:26AM

I miss this ride SO much and have so many fond memories of it. It was a classic up there with Country Bear Jamboree in my opinion. Truly missed πŸ’œπŸŒΊ - apesandmonkeys  6521.6 #13 9:37AM
😊 well hopefully the videos healed a little. 😘  - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 7:20PM
This closed when I was 1, but I had a soundtrack of the attraction, and I love it so very much. Wish I could remember seeing it. I know I did, just can't remember it lol. I'm glad they repurposed the animatronics in an attraction that is very well-known and loved! - BriHizzle  374.8 #556 10:10AM
😊 I don't think many one year olds would remember. Don't be too hard on yourself. 😘 yes! Nice to see them still hangin round! 😊 - Duchess_SMK  5969.3 #15 7:21PM
Thank you for sharing.. I loved this attraction as a kid.. I was 5 when this attraction closed but I still have fond memories going on with my family.. I remember when I saw that close attraction sign,  I always hoped it would return. But glad I have splash mountain to relive my childhood. - MickeyEyeAdore  28.2 #5646 10:46AM
I never got to see this, as my first visit was a year after it closed, but I wish I had. Thank you so much for the videos! I am glad that they kept the animals and found a new home for them in Splash Mountain - it wouldn't be the same without them! I also wouldn't mind if they put something like this back where Innoventions is, but I guess this type of show isn't the wave of the future! - DisneyOnesie  621.2 #291 10:53AM
Wow love this!!  Thanks! - HauntedMansionDiva  284.0 #938 11:00AM
It was one of the best attractions. When you first sat down in it and the first time it moved to the next set it was more thrilling than a roller coaster because of the anticipation.  - Midasgold  606.4 #297 12:16PM
I loved this attraction..thanks ☺ - poppins  20.2 #6636 12:51PM
I miss this attraction terribly --- My kid would flip over this attraction, doubt anything in the Parks today would come close. - Grindcore  526.3 #359 1:46PM
Seeing the video was fantastic!  Its amazing how much was familiar.  I love that so many of those are in my favorite- Splash Mtn! - MoonWillow  381.1 #543 3:31PM

Ooooo how I miss this😭 I remember it like it was yesturday. As a kid I loved clapping and enjoying every moment. It's sad that I can't share this with my kids but thank goodness for YouTube (not the same but hey). I'm happy to see some of my friends in Splash Mountain. Maybe that's why I like Splash so much πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ. - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  868.3 #189 10:43PM
Miss this. My parents brought me to this every visit! - MomWithAJuiceBoxBuzz  1142.1 #137 11:06PM

http://cchealth.org/eh/retail-food/dog-law-faq.php Β  I know folks love theiri pets but I still do not think this is sanitary Β from a food perspective. See the url for CA law. Unless they provide a designated pet area outside, dogs cannot lick the plates/utensils, who cleans up after a dog accident......No pets in at a restaurant for now (service dogs are the exception). Disney is excellent with their food cleanliness in the parks per the Public health inspections. DTD does not fare as well per Retaurarant inspection. Check the Health Care Agency for the current restaurant inspections. As a Public health nurse I always check to see who is keeping clean in their kitchens.
