Good morning! This day in Disney history, January 8th:The Mickey Mouse Club Circusand The Chicken Plantation Restaurant
1956: due to poor attendance, The Mickey Mouse Club Circus, an attraction running since November 1955, closed. Lasting only six weeks, the circus was the first major addition to Disneyland, it was held in a tent (which was set-up in the area that later will house the Fantasyland Autopia). Capitalizing on the success of the Mickey Mouse Club TV series, the 75-minute circus show featured a cast of well-known Mousketeers such as Jimmie Dodd, in various roles
The Mickey Mouse Club Circus was a particular highlight of Mouseketeer Bobby Burgess’ Disney days, and he recently told D23: “The Mickey Mouse Club Circus was in the fall of ’55 with the Ted DeWayne Circus and they melded us into it and called it the Mickey Mouse Club Circus. It was a red-and-white huge tent and it was hot and sweaty in there, but we were having a blast. They dressed us as Peter Pan and Tinker Bell and we did the trapeze act. There was a girl in the center who was a pro who would go over and over and over. Tommy and I were the web setters, and two of the girls, one was Sharon and one was Bonnie from the first year. The rest of them were on swinging ladders, and the boys were Peter Pan and the girls were Tinker Bell and then we turned out the lights and we glowed in the dark. We also rode elephants and horses everyday and we were trained by professional circus people. That was really fun!”

Do you remember this attraction?
Also on this day in 1962, The Chicken Plantation Restaurant, sponsored by Swift’s Premium Meats, in business since the park's opening day (July 17th, 1955) closes in Frontierland. The space occupied by the restaurant is needed for the construction of New Orleans Square. The restaurant served fried chicken dinners right along the Rivers of America.
The map below shows where exactly the Plantation House was located. I marked it with a gold Star. I realize it's tiny, but it was the best I could find. If anyone finds a better one, please feel free to DM me and I'll edit this post. :)
The front of the restaurant resembled a southern mansion
The Tom Sawyer Island (yes I still call it that) raft is crossing the Rivers of America to it’s dock in front of the Chicken Plantation Restaurant. (1956)
The back side of the restaurant looked more like something out of Mexico, not New Orleans….
I’m not sure if you can see it (this was the biggest photo I could post in the lounge) but that sign reads: “Fried Chicken for $1.70”. Sign me up!
Do you remember this restaurant?
Thanks, as always for reading and watching! I’m suddenly craving fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Hope someone posts a pic from Plaza Inn today! Mmmmmm! Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

unFORECAST for the week of June 29, 2015
Last year, Independence Week was unusually slow. July 4 was one of the slowest days of the year, if you can believe that! Looking back at MouseWait's Historical Crowd Index (available in our new MagicPlan iOS Calendar), this week averaged in the 60s, which is not very crowded at all. It is supposed to cool down a little later in the week, which could bring large crowds this weekend. To get a real-time look at how crowded the Parks are, check the MouseWait app for real-time Crowd Index averages and wait times. - Admin Jun 29, 2015 12:52PM
