Good morning! This day in Disney history, December 12th, 2000: the Disneyland Pacific Hotel re-opens as Disneys Paradise Pier Hotel at the Disneyland Resort.
The Paradise Pier Hotel with it’s 15 stories and 489 guest rooms, was re-decorated in a beachfront theme. The hotel was originally built in 1984 as the Emerald of Anaheim and owned by Japan-based Tokyu Group. In 1989 Tokyu group merged its Emerald and Pan Pacific hotel division and the Emerald of Anaheim was renamed Pan Pacific Hotel, Anaheim. In 1995, Disney purchased the hotel from Tokyu Group and renamed it Disneyland Pacific Hotel. The hotel was rebranded as Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel on December 15th, 2000 as part of the 1998-2001 expansion of Disneyland. It was named for the waterfront land in Disney’s California Adventure Park that the hotel tower overlooks. The lobby and convention/banquet facilities have undergone several renovations since the re-branding, most notably in 2004 and 2005.
The December 15th, 2000 re-themed Paradise Pier Hotel offered it’s guests a private entrance into DCA. Does anyone remember this entrance?
The small private entrance featured just a few turnstiles. You needed your room key card or you’d be turned away:
But how did you get to this entrance from your hotel? Walk out the front door to the Paradise Pier Hotel to the sidewalk along Disneyland Drive (formerly West Street). Cross Disneyland Drive at the crosswalk, as though you’re going to Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel. Instead of continuing to the Grand Californian, follow signs to a walkway that passes south of the huge American Craftsman style hotel.
Walkway between a parking lot and a wall (2001):

What did you see when you arrived into DCA from the entrance? You’ll be between Corn Dog Castle and Souvenir 66 (now Seaside Souvenirs) in the Route 66 section of Paradise Pier. I marked a red arrow on the left near the tree to show the exit/entrance.
Did YOU get a chance to use this entrance?
California Adventure’s “third gate” remained in use for only three and a half years. It closed permanently at the end of September 6, 2004. Effective the next day, Paradise Pier Hotel guests going to California Adventure had to use the park’s main entrance or the Grand Californian entrance.
The location of the former private entrance is now a passage restricted to “Cast Members Only.” The parking lot and large grass area in the photos from 2001 were eliminated with the construction of the Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, which opened in September 2009.

Disneyland unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. The unFORECAST now has its own page on the web www.unFORECAST.com
unFORECAST for the week of July 27, 2015 Crowd levels have been rising since Disneyland's official birthday on July 17th. Looking back at MouseWait's Historical Crowd Index (available in our new MagicPlan iOS Calendar), this week last year averaged in the high 70s, which is light for summer crowds. When temperatures rise, the crowd does thin out a bit (especially Annual Passholders)--and this week should be a hot one with forecasts in the 90s through Sunday. We feel that the crowd level will be similar to last year (high 70s on the Crowd Index) and the heat will keep some away. To get a real-time look at crowd levels, check the MouseWait app for Crowd Index averages and wait times. - Admin Jul 28, 2015 9:36AM
