Paging my MW family! Next Saturday we will all be at the parks (staying at the Grand). Scotchie just got his service/therapy ID card renewed as he and my son, Jack (who is living with high functioning autism) are quite a pair!

I love how much awareness you bring to autism and I'm sure you know my passion for bringing awareness to mental illness stems from being diagnosed with type 2 bipolar and chronic depression. I really want to educate myself and understand autism more. Is it common practice to say or introduce your child by saying they have high functioning autism? Is that supposed to let others know in advance of special needs? I don't warn people of my bipolar so I wasn't sure it was something your doctors have found to be helpful in adjustment for your child. It's just you bring it up a lot. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Glad your family is ready to go and have fun! - Cinderella_Schnooks  3370.7 #42 10:18PM
Often times people have many misconceptions about people who live in the ASD spectrum.  When Jack was first diagnosed with ASD many people, my own family included, thought he was just spoiled.  My wife and I would hear other people at stores and at the parks try to " teach " us how to be parents.  After 2 years of various therapies Jack has made great progress.  His school originally wanted to send him to a different school, now he is still in the same school and reading 2 grade levels above standard as well as doing math 1 grade level above standard.  MW has let Jack and I bond with many of you and I do use this site as an outlet to promote autism awareness.  Some of this is due to guilt as I was deployed when Jack was first diagnosed with it and part of it is because the rate of autism in military children is considerably higher.  We still hear people questioning Scotchie being with Jack in public places even though he has tags, vest, harness and an ID card.  It is helpful to let others know about Jack's condition in school, sports and in high populated areas (such as Disneyland) which could activate his "triggers". - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 10:31PM
I just think Jack and Jill are awesome kids. Hoping to see you all next weekend! - BeatleMike  635.4 #316 10:40PM
Look forward to meeting you too, beatlemike! - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 10:41PM
MrsSchnooks, let me take this moment to say "thank you!" To you as well! Your openness with mental health issues is amazing!! I hate the stigma that surrounds people living with mental health issues! I have many Family members who suffer, and it breaks my heart😒. I'm so glad that you are there to educate those that need to be instructed! Your IG post that showed you touching the magic sign at the dr's office really made me happy!!! My father works really hard to help people with Dual Diagnosis. People need to start helping others rather than oushinh them away. Hugs!! - 2BeignetOrNot2Beignet  1422.2 #121 10:44PM
Yes, I remember being at WDW and a mother was having a rough time with her autistic son and finally had to take him off the bus. The other passengers started complaining and she just apologized saying he was autistic. After they left some ignorant women said something negative and I told her that she needs to educate herself more about autism and that mother was doing the best she could!!! The nerve! I know Jack and Jill are really involved in MW and I was wondering if he is aware that when you say his name it's always followed by "my son living with high functioning autism". Does he like that? Does that help him? It took me years just to look in the mirror and face my disease as an adult. I had to remember I am so much more than it. Such complicated and difficult things and I appreciate you sharing. - Cinderella_Schnooks  3370.7 #42 10:57PM
Ah, thanks 2BorNottoB!!!! How many more sleeps?!?!?!  - Cinderella_Schnooks  3370.7 #42 10:59PM
I think it's really cool that you are very open about this because many people talk like you said people thought he was just spoiled when in reality many people just don't know anything about this topic and that is very cute picture btw  - Cinderellaaa  165.2 #2496 11:01PM
MrsSchnooks, when I introduce my family I simply address them by name.  Often times by peoples attitudes, body language and/or comments that I then discuss autism awareness and that my son is living with high functioning autism.  Jack is self aware that he is "different" and he does know that he is living within the ASD spectrum.  I am passionate about the subject matter because it cost my family over $10k to keep him in general education because a teacher did not want to work with him.  Jack is special (as is Jill) and I am trying to bring awareness. - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 11:07PM
5βƒ£πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰!!! Did you ready latest post?  - 2BeignetOrNot2Beignet  1422.2 #121 11:10PM
He's a very brave and special young man you got there and special little lady too. I wish I had been able to have had medical attention earlier to make my life more mainstream. Good for you and the Mrs and thank you for helping me understand how it is important to have a good understanding of educating everyone involved. Hope to see you next weekend! - Cinderella_Schnooks  3370.7 #42 11:15PM
Thank you MrsSchnooks for being so open about your disorder. Bipolar is not who you are but what you're living with and I don't see you as a woman with bipolar disorder but as a warm loving woman who would go to the ends of the world for her family and friends and most definitely a strong courageous person, that's who I see you as. - dumbbunny  627.2 #324 11:35PM
Thanks dumbbunny!!!! Very sweet of you and I need you and 2B to quit getting me choked up. fyi Catharine Zeta-Jones has type 2 bipolar and was named one of People's top 100 sexiest women of all time. I'd guess I could easily make top 500 if we are going strictly on the bipolar aspect!!!! LOL I would like to start campaigning with headquarters being at the Cove Bar. LMBOπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ - Cinderella_Schnooks  3370.7 #42 11:53PM
OMGosh! The closer it gets, the harder it is for me to sleep!!  I love that you share what you have been though with Jack😁 it makes things so much easier for me when I'm having a hard time with B. This big trip that he took was really hard for him! He enjoyed himself, to a point. He really needed to have his quiet time. The first day home he stayed in his room and when I came in to talk with him, he politely asked me to leave because he needed to "decompress". As you say, people don't really understand how broad the spectrum really is. What may appear as " normal" may in fact be a high functioning child with Autism. πŸ‘ I applaud you and your lovely wife for all that you do to help bring this out into viewπŸ˜ƒ - 2BeignetOrNot2Beignet  1422.2 #121 10:40PM
Thanks 2b!  I used to not share about Jack as I thought it was my fault he had ASD and I was afraid of the stigma that comes with autism.  You and many others helped me get past that!  You and I have talked outside of this site and in person about our families and our children.  It does form a bond loving people who live within the spectrum, thank you for being a good friend.  See you next Saturday! - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 10:47PM

Thanks , DPR, for always being so supportive of our family! - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 7:26AM
I love the photos you share and the awareness you are bringing. Raising kids is tough and we don't need others passing judgment without fully understanding some of the special struggles that exist. My oldest son was diagnosed with ADHD. His Kindergarten year was horrible. Once we got a diagnosis and started his medication, things have gotten so much better. It still feel the need to apologize when he steps over boundaries in public or is very wound up and annoying others, but I have to remember, this is not who he is, it is a condition he has. Thank you for sharing your struggles. I hope you have a wonderful time at the parks! - goofymom2boys  1502.2 #113 7:10AM
Thank you, goofymom2boys!  I think it's the understanding that allows us to see beyond the conditions.  Jack has a friend who has ADHD and they are quite a pair!  She has had a crush on him for three years, she holds his hand, hugs him and has pushed other girls away.  Jack likes her but is oblivious sometimes about social behavior and how to play with her and others.  She is very accepting of Jack just being Jack as are her parents and that's we could ever want! - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 7:35AM
sorry i missed this went to sleep early after park visit. My son has autism and he has articulation errors and likes to trap folks in his coversations which are usually about facts and timeline events. He also makes noise when the crowds get thicker or in an enclosed place like TOT library or various lines. Some folks are uncomfortable, some know what is going on, others are downright nasty. Luckily my son is very tall so folks mind their business. I remember when he was younger how many folks-usually older men- would say very mean things. It was so bad I had to come up with responses to make them stop. I do let the CMs know because they are young and its only fair to know why my son tries to talk their ears off. The younger adults are more understanding. The main reason for letting folks know is so they have a choice to stay/go/or understand that the behavior is not poor parenting. It is a neurologicial disorder. For Ms schnooks, it was once thought to be juvenile schizophrenia but austism is in it own catagory. It is so sad soo many kids are affected today...we still do not know what causes it. - Plumiegirl  10136.8 #8 8:13AM
Thank you Plumiegirl!  You have been a great help to our family on MW!  Jack will talk your ear off and has difficulties with personal space as well as "stranger danger".  For now, compression therapy as well as music therapy have him much happier in his daily routines! - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 8:29AM
I have to say that BombFrog and MrsSchnooks are some of my favorite MWers and I really appreciate that they are so supportive of others even as they deal with hardships themselves. That's a quality I see in MWers everyday. I love the positive vibe that is found here. Like DL, it is a happy place to go when life gets you down. Thank you all! - MamaRoo  466.7 #466 8:51AM
Thanks MamaRoo for always being so supportive of our family!  Jack and I love MW!  He's on the iPad every day as soon as he's done with his school work... - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 9:16AM

I understand where you're coming from BombFrog-formerCM. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's at 5 years old, thanks to a very attentive kindergarten teacher. He had a lot of sensory issues, especially with foods. I'd sometimes get comments from other parents about his limited diet and that I was just spoiling him. Thank God, he went to a great school that offered occupational therapy and now he's 15 and doing very well. 😊I am glad that there is so much more awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorders. There's even a story line about a kid with Asperger's on the TV show Parenthood. He's the same age as my son with similar struggles and I can never make it through an episode of that show without crying.  - nerdgirl  86.0 #3823 9:33AM
Oh wow, nerdgirl...I've never seen that show so I will check it out!  As a family we watch The Big Bang Theory and Jack identifies with Sheldon (with no prompting from us).   - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 9:46AM
I would love to meet your family one day! We live far away and only get out 1-2xs a year. I hope you all have a great and safe time! One day we will sync up visits and meet! - PrincessDaisy_FU2Rcm  341.2 #701 10:07AM
Sounds like a plan!  We make the 7-8 hour drive twice a year and despite it being a little tiring we try to make it as enjoyable as possible. - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 10:14AM
We are a 14 hour drive or a $300+ flight. That's why we only go once and awhile. - PrincessDaisy_FU2Rcm  341.2 #701 10:26AM
I understand that...  It gets expensive to fly, just took the family for the first time to my mom's place on Maui this summer as tickets were almost $700 each.  We drive to the parks to save $ so we can spend it at the Grand (worth it for its access to DCA). - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #184 10:32AM

I just want to thank all the newbies who are on the list so much lately! This was started as a wait time and more app so by your starting out from the beginning doing wait times is awesome! 2/3of my points are from wait times. I make a game of it and have fun doing them. Hope everyone tries it, it helps others and you earn credits!!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ - secretagentangel  4719.8 #28 9:06PM
Half of my points are from wait times.  - Goofytom  2112.4 #73 10:28PM
Congrats to the MWers who maid the list - disneylover2002  7.0 #14218 7:43PM

Oh πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ just realized that post was 2+ years oldπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ well people are still taking turns very slowly. Maybe it's the app, not the players.  - DisneyMom13  232.3 #1580 6:34PM

It happens, if you want start a game and I'll play you. I take a couple days off a week but I'll finish the games I start. - richiii3  1173.8 #153 2:20PM
@@Admin  Can't keep my games going, other end either not answering or app is stalling. It doesn't forfeit after 24 hrs of not answering. Want to play, but instead spend more time waiting and waiting. Thx - DisneyMom13  232.3 #1580 8:26AM

I just called them to price out our potential trip in June. Chris was so nice and the MW savings are phenomenal! Still waiting on work vacation approval to reserve the room!  - HNL2SFO  244.2 #1428 1:26PM
What percentage saving are we looking at for being MouseWaiters? Is it better than a AAA discount.  - MoChuck  147.9 #2741 3:57PM
@@@Admin I booked with get away today and am staying at the HoJo in December.  Does MW still give the 100 credits or do I have to book with the hotel directly? - dsnylvr1975  173.2 #2352 5:02PM

Disneyland unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. The unFORECAST now has its own page on the web www.unFORECAST.com

Super Bowl unFORECAST for the week of Feb 1, 2016
Everyone always asks if it will be busy on Super Bowl Sunday. Historically the answer is always YES, and this Sunday should be no exception. Since last week, weekdays have been surprisingly slow (very low crowds). We expect more of the same this week, until Friday. Looking back at MouseWait's Historical Crowd Index (available in our MagicPlan iOS Calendar), this week last year averaged in the high 60s (approx 60% capacity), and it jumped a little during Super Bowl weekend. To get a real-time look at crowd levels, check the MouseWait App for Crowd Index averages and wait times. Have a great week! - Admin Feb 1, 2016 12:06PM

We have always noticed that Saturdays are better than Sundays! We always come on the weekend and say we want to leave at dinner time on Sunday, but always leave by 11-12 because there are so many people. We love Saturday!! - 1Princess3Princes  612.2 #332 5:39PM
I agree. I think it has to do with most passes being blocked - PoohSizedGuy  20.5 #7243 11:53PM
