Last night I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with hundreds of guests while waiting for their ships to arrive in port. There was the Wisconsin couple who were on a mission to attend the Halloween parties on both coasts, the couple from Edmonton, Canada who chatted with me about hockey for a couple of minutes, and the multitude of friendly groups celebrating Gay Days weekend and entertaining me with jokes, compliments and free hugs. Finally, the last memorable group I had the pleasure of boarding was a family of 6 with 4 young children. Their eyes lit up as I offered to allow the little ones the front row for the best view of the attraction while mom and dad could keep watch behind them. As we waited for a few boats to load, the children kept asking me questions about the attraction. "They aren't REAL pirates are they?" "Well of course they are, we just have an agreement that they don't attack out boats." "Can we keep any treasure we find?" "I wouldn't suggest it, it's still cursed and you could turn into a skeleton, or worse, be forced to work on Davy Jones' ship for life." I loved watching their expressions as I did my little show spiel as the Disney magic took hold. It reminded me that regardless of who you are or where you come from, you are all our guests and welcome in our magical kingdom. Disneyland was built for all to relive their childhood fantasies and to be enjoyed together. Walt said it best, "To ALL who come to this happy place, welcome. Disneyland is your land."
