#News- A full fact sheet on the new Disney Parks Disability Access Service Card, which will replace the current Guest Assistance Card (GAC) on October 9. To see the full fact sheet and a helpful Q&A, click here.

The purpose of the new system is not to stop abusers of the GAC system. Any new system should and will make it harder for the system to be abused. They old system did not take into account several things that needed to be tweaked and improved. A lot if study, coordination and consultation with many different organizations went into designing the new system and I am sure it may need some adjustments. That is why it is considered a temp. Set up for now. I appreciate the way the Mouse Wait community has been so positive about the change. - JungleBum  1017.0 #166 9:12AM
Thank you! They already made it more accommodating by having it last for two weeks! Great news! Thanks BBM! - MrsSchnooks  3045.4 #40 2:29PM
Don't forget there are strict rules and guidelines in the state of ca in regards to discrimination. Cast members are trained to handle every possible senerio to handle issues that may affect someone of a hearing or visual affects than ur standard broken leg. Technically Disney cast should never ask for a doc note regarding any disability. All Disney is trying to do is prevent people from abusing the system from the new start day going forward by putting a picture on the gac and having that person be with the party at all times when getting on a ride basically it's a fast pass for disabled. - jecista3  56.9 #4264 9:44PM
Yes but now CMs can look at doctors notes if provided.  - IDVandalSkipperCM  2348.1 #53 2:37AM
Oh and no, it's not basically a fast pass. It is a return time issued based on the current wait time so essentially all guests are waiting the same amount of time for the attraction whether it's in line or "virtually" (elsewhere).   - IDVandalSkipperCM  2348.1 #53 3:07AM
We always bring documentation of our son who is living with high functioning autism since we have to have all the paperwork for his service/therapy dog. - BombFrogFormerCM  845.3 #194 4:26PM
Please be aware that there WILL BE CHANGES. This is a new process that is going out and it is key that guests are flexible as the changes happen. There have already been changes in the two weeks that CMs have been trained. PLEASE be patient with CMs as we learn this new process. Although we are trained in it, we don't know what to do until we actually work with the guests and the appropriate passes. If you do have any questions while you are in the park, chances are that Guest Relations CMs will be the best ones to assist you. Thank you! - IDVandalSkipperCM  2348.1 #53 2:41AM
But it's against ca law that we ask for a doc note if conditions are not so visible  - jecista3  56.9 #4264 8:43AM
In the new update, it was said that IF PROVIDED, CMs are allowed to look at the doctors note. They are not allowed to ask for one. - IDVandalSkipperCM  2348.1 #53 8:50AM
thank you all it will be a test for everyone cm and holders alike although it could take a while to work everything out at least a 2 week is a good start and im not going into an argument about what is or not the law its complicated and theres alot of confusion about it. - pikarich  3848.1 #27 10:14AM
So, I'm wondering who to tell to correct a mistake and I'm assuming City Hall/Chamber of Commerce? A guest got a GAC today telling the CM that they couldn't do stairs or stand very long in lines. They gave her a stamp on her pass that mentioned to use alternate entrance instead of stairs but when they went to get in line for HM the CM said they had to stand in the 45 minute line because there are no stairs. Do they get the CM's name at HM or talk to a lead?  - MrsSchnooks  3045.4 #40 12:40AM
MrsSchnooks, that would be the attraction. There are stairs at the end, correct? - IDVandalSkipperCM  2348.1 #53 6:47AM
Yes, stairs in the GAC queue but then they have the ramp but no stairs in regular queue if I remember correctly. Can anyone chime in? Thanks ID. Yeah, they went to City Hall afterwards and were treated very rudely actually. The cm just kept saying We can't do anything about wait times.  - MrsSchnooks  3045.4 #40 9:14AM
If they had the "no stairs pass" at HM, they'd be sent through the regular line. Because once they reach they stairs they can use the ramp. CMs can really only do what the pass tells them. Sometimes there is room for extra accomodation, other times not. - NoHolds  7.6 #11897 11:29AM
Thanks for the info Skipper, we are bringing Jack, our son who is living with high functioning autism during Veterans' Day weekend! - BombFrogFormerCM  845.3 #194 4:27PM
The equal wait time is what makes this fair to all guests. That right there should stop the abuse. - Hidden-mickey  13.5 #8258 8:51PM
Actually, this isn't and shouldn't be just about making it "fair". My friend who is in a wheelchair can't enjoy a full day of DL because of her disabilities. But she can do a good six hours and enjoy quite a bit with how the system is now. If we want to just focus on fair shouldn't she just be paying for a half day? There's a lot more to this that you aren't aware of. - MrsSchnooks  3045.4 #40 12:20AM
The new system will start tomorrow. From talking to a few CMs this weekend, expect long lines at City Hall/Chamber of Commerce tomorrow, so please be patient. Also, there will be new stations placed around the park for this new system. - BaseballMickey_CM  6899.2 #9 10:30PM
Yes please be patient! I know some might be frustrated by the changes, but by working together solutions can be found.  - NoHolds  7.6 #11897 10:34AM
The new system does not work. I have been bringing my special needs so for years every week and he can only handle being in the parks for an a hour maybe an hour and a half due to his health issues, but he Looks forward to going each week. Today it took almost an hour just to finish 1 ride. It's a shame they won't work with us. Everyday is a new struggle for him and to now have to deny him going to Disneyland each week is a shame. But he just can't do the wait times it's just too much for him. This is one very sad mom to have to take this activity away because they refuse to are the mistake or flaw in this new system. Won't be back to Disneyland.. Very sad - pippiap  3.1 #36393 7:58PM
Just an fyi, as of yesterday they were only giving ONE day GAC cards. No more 3 day cards even. - DLKenCA  2090.9 #62 2:33PM
Probably because it is still a GAC, the changes haven't taken effect yet, and they don't want to give out GAC for two weeks if it is only going to be good for a few more days. - bluefairy  643.3 #278 8:12PM
Yes, this is correct. We weren't planning on any attractions tonight but do use the pass for helping with the lines for the buses back to Toy Story lot. - MrsSchnooks  3045.4 #40 1:40AM
Thank you so much for the info! - missmimi90  1794.0 #78 3:43PM
I totally agree with taking a picture of the person with the disability. Maybe they can in certain circumstances where the person may have an AP they can just link it to the AP card. I am curious how this is going to work and really want to hear everyones reviews on it. We often take my friends son who had a kidney transplant and has many limitations that make it hard for him to wait in a line including needing "down time" which can cut into the return times they are giving-his condition is considered life threatening but curious how they determine special needs so it should be interesting to see these changes happen. - yellowtonka  241.4 #1374 3:49PM
I'm still really confused as it seems the new card only really applies to those who can't wait in the regular lines and not other accessibility options.  BF can't do stairs, so we don't mind the regular line, but some rides are hard to wait in regular line because of this.  Also I'm thinking about visual impairments and other issues that don't have to do with waiting. - Sarafina  474.1 #405 9:01PM
It is going to be all about communicating to the CM's. I was recently told no stairs and have realized if don't tell the CM then where the ride lets off I may get stairs. They are really great about that. Some passes when they've given them to me they ask if I can do stairs and will mark no stairs on the pass. - MrsSchnooks  3045.4 #40 1:44AM
I mean told by my dr no stairs - MrsSchnooks  3045.4 #40 1:44AM
When I was there, I was really worried that they were going to make me do the stairs on Indy. I had my crutches, and they made sure I exited the side with no stairs. When I went to HM, the CM there asked me if I would be able to do the stairs and head in normally. My only issue was with RSR. I was told to go to the regular line, and not informed of the guest kiosk. Found out about that here after the fact. - Lelundrial  558.4 #329 3:39PM
That keeps happening to me at RSR and I need to make sure I tell them no stairs. - MrsSchnooks  3045.4 #40 7:36PM
Yes just let the cm know. Some attractions you can cross back through the ride vehicle to the exit side with no stairs. Other rides you may not be ale to because time crucial dispatch intervals.  - NoHolds  7.6 #11897 11:38AM
Thank you BBM for the post, I think it is a great system. I'm sure the abuse will stop. I unfortunately have to use this for my disabilities (osteoarthritis in both knees and Lupus which make it almost impossible to do stairs and stand for extended periods of time)  - PixiePirateMaid  315.2 #751 12:00AM
I'm hoping all goes smoothly when I take my family to the parks Veterans' Day weekend.  Many of you, my fellow MWers, know my son Jack is living with high functioning autism.  We just started using the GAC last year and hope with the DAS he will be able to continue to enjoy his experiences at the parks!  We look forward to meeting up with 2Bornot2B and her family plus SOA and many others! - BombFrogFormerCM  845.3 #194 10:34AM
I hope to meet you and your family that weekend. - missmimi90  1794.0 #78 11:33AM
Hope to meet you that weekend! - lotusflow3r  172.3 #2276 11:54AM
We are leaving as soon as Jack finishes school (about 2:45pm) then trying to beat commuter traffic out of the Bay Area.  We are planning on spending the night with my Bachan who lives across from Seal Beach NWS, the ho to the parks the morning of 11/09...  Can't wait to do meet ups! - BombFrogFormerCM  845.3 #194 12:38PM
I have a question on the service dog part? Do we get these passes too then? I don't mind just want to know what to expect when we go to the part. And will there be a switch pass still for the dogs as well? I don't mind kenneling my dog but sometimes she gets antsy being away from me because her job is to alert me, and me being somewhat taken away by the ride is time for the alert for her unfortunately and she is not a quiet dog lol - tswift13_Baileys  17.5 #7151 10:26PM
I don't think you need a pass for the dog if you are using the stand-by queue or using traditional fast pass. As for the kennel, you can switch off with a member of your party. You don't have to leave it alone in the kennel. I don't think I have to tell you this, but just putting it out there to remind others...If you do chose to use the kennel let the cm know first. Don't just drop the dog off and hop on the ride.  Someone did that the other day and we were frantic trying to find out where the owners were. 😨 A lead needs to be there when the kennel is being used. I hope this helps.  - NoHolds  7.6 #11897 10:31AM
We aren't sure exactly how this all works. We will be having questions answered as we learn.  At this point in time, (from what I understand from training) you will not need a DAS pass. Talk to Guest Relations CMs and the CMs at the attractions for the best options to serve you. I won't be dealing with the system until Saturday, so maybe other CMs can help out in the mean time! - IDVandalSkipperCM  2348.1 #53 10:37AM
Thank you everyone for the posts...we we're suppose to go  to the parks to help celebrate mouse wait birthday and get our first ever yearly passes but from the videos I've seen I can't justify to spend the money when my special needs child won't be able to ride much...granted our disability is more visible with her in a wheelchair not being able to communicate tube ECG the way the system works now will be impossible to get in rides I am hopeful that Disney will continue to make adjustments I love that they have the picture on the card but the going back and forth and waiting will not work for her her body just won't be able to take it...especially now that we live here and won't be getting a hotel room where we can lay her down so she can rest I between rides please keep posting your experiences I really really want to go back... - formadi  24.2 #6084 8:37AM
People that abused this have hurt the people that need it. Disney is magical but is a expensive place to visit & difficult for people with disabilities, one person with a disability affects the whole familie Magical trip, . I think this has been a little over thought by Disney. hope they come up with something better. - DumboLov  25.5 #5905 3:01AM
My 2.5 year old son was recently diagnosed with hypotonia and ehlers-danlos syndrome which means he has low muscle tone and loose joints and doesn't walk too well and gets weak easily. Is this something we'd be able to have assistance with as he can't stand/walk long periods of time and at 30+ pounds its hard for us to carry him in long lines as well. How/what kind of assistance would we ask for? Thanks for any input as this is all new to us!! - DisneyLuvinMama  350.9 #612 3:25AM
Anyone with advice? - DisneyLuvinMama  350.9 #612 1:47PM
I would look into using a stroller as a wheelchair and go to city hall to explain your situation. They should be able to help you. - missmimi90  1794.0 #78 1:54PM
Ask about a DAS at city hall and ask about using stroller as a wheelchair.  - NoHolds  7.6 #11897 1:58PM
What is DAS? - DisneyLuvinMama  350.9 #612 2:01PM
I know this isn't the place to complain but I did not have the best experience with the new DAS system when going with my daughter on Friday, she actually left in tears.  Can someone please DM me so I can ask specific questions in regards to our experience? - sstarlight  324.7 #707 12:09PM
I'm sorry that happened. I would suggest directing your questions to City Hall or Chamber if Commerce since they have the most up to date info and appreciate feedback as to what did not work. So sorry. - MrsSchnooks  3045.4 #40 2:00PM
Thanks. I've talked to them already but was hoping to talk to others to see how their experiences went.  I just want to make sure I have a full understanding of the new process from people who are using it.  We talked to CMs in DCA and DL and were told the same thing which is fine (I know they are doing their job and this is difficult for them too).  What I originally read about the new process and what we were told was different.  It was a busy day so I'm not sure if that was an issue as well.  - sstarlight  324.7 #707 3:39PM
We went the 13th and 14th we went to get the picture done and the line was 2 hours long we went to eat and tried to wait in line 40 min for grizzly rapids only my youngest son and I stuck it out my older son shut down and was so overwhelmed that we ended up pushing him around in the stroller the rest of the day.  So I waited first thing the next morning and he hadhis picture done etc but I was in tears he was in tears because he didn't understand why they wanted a picture this time and when we finally got the hang of the system it was about to close and he missed his favorite ride and as so sad. Then I told him we have to do that every two weeks he said he didn't really want to go back again to dl. I was sad I'm hoping that this next time we can have fun again. They should have some sort of season pass holder special like have it printed on our passes or make the cards good for 6months. Like they did before.  - Dominguez5  0.0 #145121 6:07AM
Email Disneyland customer relations and explain your situation. Don't expect them to respond with anything directly but they need to know when the system fails so they can make changes. From the CMs I've talked to they know they renewal process and picture retakes are a pain but that's all they can do right now. I never thought to think about how the process affects people who have serious issues with their photo being taken, the process of such can be damaging I've known others who would completely crumble because of it, it seems so simple to some but it's a very real issue. So please call them or email them. Disney needs to know, they can't make this new system a success without our input. Good luck in your future trips, hopefully now that you know the process you can figure out a routine to make it easier on your son. God bless. - BeatleMike  583.8 #312 6:33AM

http://cchealth.org/eh/retail-food/dog-law-faq.php Β  I know folks love theiri pets but I still do not think this is sanitary Β from a food perspective. See the url for CA law. Unless they provide a designated pet area outside, dogs cannot lick the plates/utensils, who cleans up after a dog accident......No pets in at a restaurant for now (service dogs are the exception). Disney is excellent with their food cleanliness in the parks per the Public health inspections. DTD does not fare as well per Retaurarant inspection. Check the Health Care Agency for the current restaurant inspections. As a Public health nurse I always check to see who is keeping clean in their kitchens. Diners beware! - Plumiegirl  8618.0 #3 10:42AM
