..."the CM will look at the current wait time via the official Disney Mobile Magic app on an iPad.." I was SO expecting that to say check the wait times on MW! Boooo!! - aphboomwha  135.6 #2841 1:48PM
All sounds good to me. I feel like locals maybe take issue with the one day at a time thing. Living close by and having to get a new DAS each day seems like hassle not only for the guests but for the CMs that issue them - missmimi90  1674.0 #84 1:55PM
Agree. I see both sides. But should  having an AP and living locally give those DAS holders an edge over the 2-? day DAS off site visitor who has to wait in line every day?   - PrincessDuckie  788.8 #206 2:07PM
I don't know about an edge but if you come to parks frequently with an AP, (and AP holders are often a majority in off seasons) wouldn't it make sense to allow two week DAS to avoid the clogging that occurs at City Hall now? - missmimi90  1674.0 #84 2:14PM
Yeah if the person is an AP holder, how about doing the issue of the DAS the way it is now. Two weeks at a time, instead of every single day. - Lelundrial  504.1 #376 2:16PM
I think a 2-? day visitor should be able to show their ticket media and get a DAS for the length of their stay.  - PrincessDuckie  788.8 #206 2:50PM
From what I'm reading it sounds like many who need the DAS have not used the return time pass before. It is incredibly simple! You go to the CM who is handing them out, they give you a pass and you return at the time window stated either to the FP line or the exit. You will not be standing in line in the regular queue and the only difference in wait time is you will have to wait while those people with DAS return passes in front of you are loaded first. Hope this helps! - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 3:32PM
True, the return time pass is simple, but the article says you can only get 1 at a time and will have to use regular fast pass for anything else. I think that's where a lot of the frustration will come for those that will have to just sit & wait for their time frame to come up. - LBChica  2065.7 #62 3:38PM
True, I can see what you're saying especially those that are from out of town and may have limited time versus myself where if I don't go on a ride one day, there's always next time. - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 3:43PM
LOL I don't know why I had to say True also! Hahaha - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 3:45PM
lol 😘 - LBChica  2065.7 #62 7:06PM
😘 - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 11:55PM
You dont have to sit and wait though. You can watch a show or go on a ride that has a very short line. There are hundreds of things to do in the park. - rachelelizabeth  189.1 #2023 10:28AM
The bad link has the good link in it when yo get that page. The new DAS just makes so much more sense for those who need it. No more waiting on skid row at space mountain. - Malefitiff  8.6 #10671 1:42PM
Haha, that is what it felt like. - Lelundrial  504.1 #376 10:27AM
I hope the system works well.  As a parent of a 7 year old living with high functioning autism we appreciated the GAC.  I hope something will help us with the same day rule as we usually stay at the Grand so we can zip into DCA on our trips which are usually 4 days long as we're coming from the Bay Area.  Jack & Jill are so exited as our next trip is Veterans' Day weekend! - BombFrogFormerCM  816.3 #197 2:30PM
Yes, I'm curious to see how they deal with that. Yay!! We will be there at the same timeπŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ - 2BeignetOrNot2Beignet  1082.0 #144 3:09PM
You will be there then too?!?  Awesome!  Definitely a meet up waiting to happen!  Bleyn and Kenedy finally get to meet Jack and Jill! - BombFrogFormerCM  816.3 #197 3:14PM
Yes 😁 we are there 11/7-10. My hubby, my oldest Jeff and Bleyn are going to Blizzcon.. And Kenedy and I will be at the parks!! Whoo hoo!!! Totally hope to meet up with you guys😁 - 2BeignetOrNot2Beignet  1082.0 #144 3:21PM
It said in the article that those providing proof of visiting more than one day the CM will issue a DAS for the length of the time you'll be visiting the park. - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 3:24PM
Thanks MrsSchnooks! I may have read the link too fast...don't want to get caught doing MW while at work! - BombFrogFormerCM  816.3 #197 3:50PM
Anytime! - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 5:38PM
One thing I didn't see much about is DAS for those with high anxiety, autism, sensory disorders etc. Would they still allow a DAS for these people? They didn't really talk much regarding that. Mostly about wheelchair accessibility. - missmimi90  1674.0 #84 3:35PM
A disability is a disability. I'm not worried. - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 3:46PM
Alright. Of course, being me I always worry with changes (just a bit). - missmimi90  1674.0 #84 3:52PM
I agree- it mentioned a lot about wheelchairs (which I think went hand in hand with the abuse problem anyway) but what about guests with service dogs for non visible disabilities? Guess we'll find out. Very good article though- thanks for finding and posting - WendyLVSNana  90.4 #3566 6:57PM
Yeah I am on crutches, and the emphasis was placed on wheelchairs. I still can't stand for very long. - Lelundrial  504.1 #376 10:29AM
I think this is a great idea. It's the same way Knott's, Magic Mountain and Sea World do their assistance passes and we've never had a problem there.  - MXPrincess399  714.1 #230 7:45AM
I'm so glad they're changing the way they handle these issues.  It's unfortunate that it took the (sickening) national news report in May to kick this into motion.  Hopefully the changes will be manageable and create a better experience for those who truly need assistance.  - Spoonful_O_Sugar  569.4 #318 7:58AM
Yes thisπŸ‘†πŸ‘†πŸ˜‰ - simba77  311.7 #757 8:33AM
Bump!  Admin, is there any way to stick this to the top of the page for a bit?  Lots of posts already in addition to this one... - IDVandalSkipperCM  2283.0 #53 9:53AM

I fixed the link...sorry!! πŸ˜¬πŸ˜§πŸ˜‚ - caramiapoohAKAface  3484.7 #31 1:41PM
I knew they were changing, but didn't know exactly how.  Thanks for the info! - IDVandalSkipperCM  2283.0 #53 1:48PM
This is perfectly fine and completely reasonable. But the line to get one every day concerns me. - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 1:52PM
We'll see if that part changes, especially since DLR has such a high AP to day guest ratio.  WDW does not.  Give them some time to work some of the details out and figure out what works best for each property. - IDVandalSkipperCM  2283.0 #53 1:59PM
Very true. - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 2:03PM
I think the changes make sense but I agree with the line every day will be a challenge! But it seems that even if you didn't have to get a new DAS card each day, you'd still have to wait in line every day to get a return pas for each ride, every time. 😏 - caramiapoohAKAface  3484.7 #31 2:20PM
I think every two weeks like it is now is good, even weekly but daily will cause a line in morning - MarshaMouse  4093.5 #25 2:31PM
Yeah- sometimes the line at city hall turns me away. And then we don't ride anything or don't ride much because of standing time - WendyLVSNana  90.4 #3566 6:58PM
Interesting, I guess we'll see how it goes since BF usually gets a No Stairs GAC - Sarafina  460.0 #419 2:05PM
Thanks for the link. These changes were supposed to take effect last month but I am sure they pushed it back to work on last minute details.  - RickChavez  3361.3 #33 2:10PM
Also probably to train CMs accordingly.  I know a lot of people will start with their training on it next week. - IDVandalSkipperCM  2283.0 #53 2:13PM
We've been told way months ago. They've used the more popular attractions as a way to count how many guest assistance cards were being used from day to day. The training that guest relations & attraction CM's will go through will better help prepare for the DAS system to take full effect. I believe it is a more efficient way to better assist our guest in need of assistance, it may not be perfect, but it is a start to make our guest experience a magical day in the parks in a more an efficient way.  - iPoca.  916.9 #176 2:33PM
Yeah and from the looks of it its a step in the right direction. - RickChavez  3361.3 #33 2:47PM
I recently used the GAC and was not issued a FP for RSR, same with Star Tours. I was expected to wait in line like everyone else. No one cared that I could not stand for longer then 10 minutes at a time. At space I waited in the disability line like all the others. Then I saw these two small groups walk right up, and barely waited 5 minutes. While I waited 25 minutes in line. I will have to use a GAC again when we go next month for my friends b-day. I used the ECV in the beginning of the day. Incredibly embarrassing, first one didn't work right and neither did the second one. Went on my crutches for the remainder of the day. Are they doing to treat crutches the same way? Or are they going to think those make it so I can stand for 20 minutes? Which I can't, my hip was hurting badly just waiting for the DL train. - Lelundrial  504.1 #376 2:15PM
When you went to RSR did you go to the guest assistance kiosk and when you went to Star Tours did you go to the front and should the CM your GAC? - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 2:58PM
and show - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 3:22PM
What guest assistance kiosk? I was told to go to the queue entrance. Star Tours yes went to the front and showed them the GAC. - Lelundrial  504.1 #376 6:29PM
To the left of Stanley is a small little kiosk with a CM that hands out the return time passes. As for Astra Tours it sounds like you got a bad CM. I've had problems with them there and have actually had to explain my disability to them to let me in the back entrance. So sorry that happened. - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 11:58PM
Astra? Star Tours - MrsSchnooks  2985.5 #38 11:58PM
I was in the park the last 3 days with my daughter who has MS. The first time we presented her GAC card at RSR the CM seemed annoyed but walked back to the kiosk and had them give her a fastpass. Thursday at the AP event before it started she was told she had to go into the standby queue regardless of the fact she has a GAC card. She saw there was a line of people at the kiosk and was able to get a fastpass. We went to Star Tours twice in 3 days and they immediately had us to go the back entrance. For the 3 days we were there I was very happy how it made the day easier for her. I never thought I would have to experience using a GAC but I'm glad how most CM's were very caring when we did use it. - sstarlight  324.7 #701 1:42AM
I just hope I don't have any problems. If this doesn't help with alleviating any pain I have I'll have to sit out on lots more rides.  - LBChica  2065.7 #62 2:44PM
Gosh that sounds complicated. - cynDOLEwhip  1175.5 #126 2:46PM
It does sound complicated..hope it works out for my autistic son and my daughter who's being evaluated for autism as well. If it doesn't, unfortunately we won't be able to go as often although we have APs. It's near impossible to have my daughter to be in one area for extended periods of time. - iheartDLR18  8.7 #10582 2:54PM
It's sad that there were so many abuses that the policy has to change again. About ten years ago we were able to get a GAK without issue for our disabled niece without issue (two years in a row). The third year we took her is when they first changed their policy and we were denied. Talked to a lead. Denied, even though you could physically see our niece was disabled. I do have to say the quality of her visit that year was decreased immensely because we didn't have a GAK for her. But we still tried to make the most of our visit. GAKs are a lifesaver for those that truly need them.  - PrincessDuckie  788.8 #206 2:58PM
When I was hobbling in the HM area after you get off the elevator. These men behind me were making the comment that it was unfortunate that I had to go that way. They mentioned the abuses. I didn't entirely mind having to, just ticked me off when this lady nearly knocked me over to get out of the elevator. - Lelundrial  504.1 #376 6:31PM
I respect the decisions Disney is making. They are in the customer service industry, and will give their customers all the right treatment. It was an interesting read and very informative, thanks for the info. - BriHizzle  374.8 #548 3:17PM
This is exactly why they are doing this. Customer service (or Guest Relations) is one of their top priorities. By refining the system so those who don't need the card will be less likely to take advantage or abuse it, improving it for those with disabilities and at the same time improving the experience for the non-disabled (who are the vast majority of the visitors on any given day). Being able to cut down on people with "front of the line" passes due to a disability (whether real or fake) will allow the standby line to move more efficiently. - NotNKansasAnymor  283.8 #931 1:15AM
Sweet!  Thanks for the info. I like it! - SpaceMtnGirl11  133.4 #2872 3:20PM
LOVE IT!! I hope that the "security on hand to assist" is an indication that verbal abuse and physical threat (implied or actual) will not be tolerated. Good luck CM's. - georgieporgie  183.6 #2096 4:04PM
That makes me so so sad. But I have witnessed people saying horrible things to poor gentle helpful CM's who are doing their absolute best to display Disney quality customer service and its so sad. It's all I can do to step in between them and tell em to leave the CM alone! - WendyLVSNana  90.4 #3566 7:03PM
If they are issued to multiple days. The dates need to be stamped or typed on to avoid forging.  - NoHolds  7.6 #11687 6:25PM
I'm sure Disney has thought of that.  - IDVandalSkipperCM  2283.0 #53 6:31PM
I'm sorry if I missed this in the article but will the return times be a window at all, or must you return at an exact time.   - MinnieMousewife  807.8 #199 6:50PM
I hope a window. Maybe not a full hour but something to give a little leeway.  - NoHolds  7.6 #11687 6:53PM
Probably an hour window - IDVandalSkipperCM  2283.0 #53 6:56PM
Oh ok thanks!  πŸ˜Š - MinnieMousewife  807.8 #199 7:04PM
I wanna know too. That would put a little more strain on the holders.  - WendyLVSNana  90.4 #3566 7:05PM
Before they gave you an hour window, so it might be the same type of thing.  - warchanted  166.9 #2347 8:33PM
Great information! It's more information than I want to read right now so I subscribed to your post so I can find it later. What I did read was fascinating... The numbers on AP attendance was eye opening!!! - Boundin  566.3 #320 12:24AM
Great info, thanks for the post. It does sound complicated though...I'm a pass holder, I live in SoCal and I go at least 3-4x/month. I have severe anxiety and knee problems (I can't do stairs)...I hope that it's not as big of a hassle as it seems it will be. I know it will take time to figure it all out but I'm not excited about having to wait in a (potentially) couple hour line every time I go into the park to get the card. Oh well I'll do what I have to do.  - ekwhite  471.7 #401 1:00AM
I think this will go a long way to curb the system abuses.  People shouldn't get mad at Disney for making this change.  They should be mad at the people who abused the system to the point that it needed to be changed. - MrsFletch  125.1 #2990 8:39AM
Bump for those asking about the GAC changes/new program - missmimi90  1674.0 #84 7:27PM
I for one am so glad that that GAC pass is going bye bye, I like that there is only 20 rides in disneyland that will use the new pass. And those rides will be retrofitted to allow for wheelchair access over the next few years. I'm glad they will make ppl wait in line like everyone else. I like the DAS system in which you can only get one at a time and You must ride the ride in order for you group to ride. I think an AP holder should have to get a new DAS pass everyday.  - hotspot  205.6 #1825 8:29PM
Bump (again....) - IDVandalSkipperCM  2283.0 #53 4:53PM
For those of you who are cast members I HoPE none of you deal with customers who get angry with you once this change takes affect...I myself am not happy with changes and it will probably mean no A P passes for my family or any more Disney visits not worth th amount of money we spend for my severely disabled child to only be able to ride a couple of rides in one day...but regardless none of you should deal with abusive customers... - formadi  24.2 #6002 1:23AM
