Good afternoon!

This day in Disneyland history, September 9th, 2001: "The Country Bear Clubhouse", or "Country Bear Vacation Hoedown" originally know as "The Country Bear Jamboree" closed it's curtains forever.

bears

Located where "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" attraction is now, The Country Bear Clubhouse was actually supposed to be part of the never-realized Disney project in the 1960's- a ski-resort in Mineral King Valley. Now part of Sequoia National Park. After Walts passing in 1966, the ski resort (which ran into environmental concerns) and the "bear show" were shelved.

front

Marc Davis and Al Bertino created the bear group. The Country Bear Jamboree actually first opened at WDW. It was SO successful that the imagineers immediately planned a Disneyland version. In 1972, the Indian Village was torn down to make way for Bear Country. The attraction was twice the size of the WDW's version featuring two identical theaters.

Below is a Mark Davis painting for The Country Bear Jamboree.

From 1972 to 1986, the attraction was know as The Country Bear Jamboree.  In 1986, it was renamed and re-themed as a "vacation-themed show" called The Country Bear Vacation Hoedown, or otherwise known as The Country Bear Clubhouse.

    -    “My Woman Ain’t Pretty, but She Don’t Swear None,” performed by Liver-Lips McGrowl
    -    “Mama, Don’t Whip Little Buford,” performed by Henry and Wendell
    -    “Tears Will Be the Chaser for My Wine,” performed by Trixie
    -   “Pretty Little Devilish Mary,” performed by the Five Bear Rugs
    -    “How Long Will My Baby Be Gone?” performed by Terrence
    -    “All the Guys that Turn Me On Turn Me Down,” performed by the Sun Bonnets—Bunny, Bubbles, and  Beulah
    -    “Heart, We Did All that We Could,” performed by Teddi Barra, descending on a swing from the ceiling
    -    “Blood on the Saddle,” performed by the unbearable Big Al
    -    “The Ballad of Davy Crockett,” performed by Henry, who is joined by Sammy the hat racoon
    -   “Blood on the Saddle,” performed again by Big Al
    -    “Ole Slewfoot” (“He’s big around the middle and he’s broad across the rump”), performed by almost all the other bears, trying to drown out Big Al.
    -   “Come Again,” performed by Henry, Sammy, Max, Buff, and Melvin.

To watch a promotional video for the attraction filmed in 1972:

When the show was changed over to the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown the songs changed too:
(again, thanks Yesterland.com)

    -    “The Great Outdoors,” performed by Henry and the Five Bear Rugs
    -    “Life’s No Picnic Without You,” performed by Trixie
    -    “On the Road Again,” performed by Wendell
    -    “We Can Make It To the Top,” performed by Liver Lips McGrowl
    -   “California Bears,” performed by the Sun Bonnets, Gomer, Max, Buff, and Melvin
    -    “Two Different Worlds,” performed by Terrence with Dolores the octopus
    -    “Rocky Top,” performed by the Five Bear Rugs
    -    “Nature,” performed by Ernest
    -    “Singin’ In the Rain,” performed by Teddi Barra and Henry
    -    “Ghost Riders In the Sky,” performed by the Five Bear Rugs
    -    “On My Way To Your Heart,” performed by Big Al
    -    “Thank God I’m a Country Bear,” performed by the entire cast

To watch the full show filmed in 2001:

During its run, the Country Bear Jamboree had two spin-offs – a Christmas special and the Vacation Hoedown.

Where the Jamboree played, riders now can spot three heads of Country Bear animals inside the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride that opened in its place in 2003.  Max the deer, Melvin the moose and Buff the buffalo are mounted on the wall past the Woozles. Have you seen them?

heads

Who remembers the Country Bears? Did you have a favorite song they sang? Perhaps a memory from watching the show?

Thanks as aways for reading and watching! I'm doing my very best trying to make time to write these and homeschool at the same time. I'm sure you all know how much I love to make them for MW and I'll continue to whenever I can. Please know that I always read each and everyone of your wonderful comments. I WANT to respond to all of you, sometimes I just don't get the chance though. I hope you understand it's just because I'm super busy attempting to teach the 3rd grade. :) Love you ALL and hope you have a magical Monday! Toodles!

This brings back so many memories of my childhood and how much my dad really enjoyed this show. I always wanted to sit next to my dad during this and POTC. One time my mom declined me a rad rubber knife with a leather sheath with a skull in it from POTC cause she thought I would grow up to be a serial killer. From there we went to see CBJ an after the show on the way out what do I find under one of the seats? That's right! A rad rubber knife with sheath and all! And to my mothers disappointment, I have never murdered anyone. Thanks SMK  - phillip...  1375.5 #141 8:11AM

This was one of the few attractions that I remember from my childhood at the park. I saw it earlier this year at WDW and its a lot shorter now than before. Anyways, another CM and I were talking about this a few nights ago, trying to explain to another guest what the show used to be. - BaseballMickey  8025.6 #11 2:12PM
huh, I wonder why they made the WDW one shorter. Is it still just as popular? - Duchess_SMK  6587.9 #19 7:40AM
It will always be the Country Bears Jamboree to me! Β Loved Β this, and I miss it, but I also love the Winnie the Pooh ride that has taken its place. I fulfilled a bucket list item in July when I finally spotted the heads in there and was able to point them out to my family. Yay! Β A family favorite was always Blood on the Saddle. Just so funny! Β I also lived the 'my Woman Ain't Pretty But She Dont Swear None.' Β πŸ˜‚ Β It was just a fun show all around. People would clap along and just have a really good time. Thank you for a bright note today, Duchess! Love ya!  😘 - MeridaFan  4244.2 #39 2:15PM
AWE! I could totally picture you all excited and clapping finding the heads! LOL CUTE! Thanks as always for sharing your memories with us! ((hugs)) You're so welcome! ;) - Duchess_SMK  6587.9 #19 7:42AM

I've been walked off Winnie the Pooh in that room.  They wouldn't let me get a picture though.  I think we can probably blame this show for the atrocity that is the chuck e cheese "show."  πŸ‘Ώ - bluefairy  643.8 #334 2:51PM

ugh! It was AWFUL huh?! Thank YOU doll for sharing that! ((hugs)) - Duchess_SMK  6587.9 #19 8:00AM
The release of the Country Bears movie in 2002, right after the closure of the attraction that it was based on in 2001 was a cruel joke.       As for my favorite character, it was Big Al, by far! Liverlips was great too. - Grindcore  568.8 #388 7:49PM
Good choices! But yes, that movie was dreadful! - Duchess_SMK  6587.9 #19 8:01AM
When I was little my parents always made us go and see this.  I hated it because I thought it took time away from rides. Little did I know I would grow up and miss it. I was fortunate enough to share it with my son at WDW a few years ago when we went but it wasn't the same as sharing the memory with him at THE one I was at when I was his age. I understand Walt's vision and dream of Disneyland never being complete but I also have a soft spot in my heart for some of the older attractions like this, America Sings and Small World....I love the traditions and legacy of the Resort and I often wonder what Walt would think if he strolled down Main St today.  - CM_tamstirr  560.4 #394 8:07PM
how sweet that you got to enjoy it with your son! I agree with you, I often wonder this myself! - Duchess_SMK  6587.9 #19 8:02AM
We were there for its last day. My Grandpa's name was Al, and he loved to sing, "Blood on the Saddle" - chelebee  304.8 #946 8:17PM
How special for you! Great song too! - Duchess_SMK  6587.9 #19 8:02AM
I get so excited when I see your history posts!! The Country Bear Jamboree was a particular favorite of my family!! We loved "Blood on the Saddle" by Big Al and "Mama don't whip little Bufford" was hilarious too!! At least my kids got to see this at WDW and now they sing the songs With me! Thanks for a wonderful trip down memory lane.Β πŸ’– - adisneyfamily  1004.0 #203 9:29PM
You're so kind! I'm overjoyed you like these! Means a lot to me that you let me know! Thank you! Great song choices! How cute that you got to enjoy it with your kids! I hope to get over to WDW someday myself! Thanks again! - Duchess_SMK  6587.9 #19 8:04AM

My favorites were All the guys that turn me on turn me down. Also Blood on the saddle! As always... Wonderful post! You do a great job!!! - Boundin  812.3 #245 10:15PM

Disneyland unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. The unFORECAST now has its own page on the web www.unFORECAST.com

unFORECAST for the month of June 2016
Last month (May) seemed to be quieter than last year, probably because the 60th Celebration began last May, making last summer a lot busier. Looking back at MouseWait's Historical Crowd Index (available in our MagicPlan iOS Calendar), crowds averaged in the mid 80s (approx 85% capacity) for the first two weeks of June, then it quieted down in the last two weeks of the month. We are estimating smaller crowds than last summer because the 60th Celebration is over a year old, and there are still a lot of attractions being refurbished. To get a real-time look at crowd levels, check the MouseWait App for Crowd Index averages and wait times. Have a great week! - Admin Jun 3, 2016 12:07PM

We have always noticed that Saturdays are better than Sundays! We always come on the weekend and say we want to leave at dinner time on Sunday, but always leave by 11-12 because there are so many people. We love Saturday!! - 1Princess3Princes  643.7 #335 5:39PM
I agree. I think it has to do with most passes being blocked - PoohSizedGuy  20.6 #7584 11:53PM
Saturday's rule! One of the perks of a premium pass!  - snappy  451.5 #521 7:32AM

I second this. The info is great to have, but it's too long.  - 1HitchhikingGhost  292.9 #1022 5:04PM
There was nobody there last week on Saturday loved it Hope it's the same this week  - jkobelski  21.3 #0 9:48PM
August 17 - It was still crowded yesterday, though it starts emptying out about 9 pm since some schools are in session and others are watching PTN. These are your last week's to watch PTN and the current WOC, and the 60th fireworks nightly show. Take advantage on a weeknight if you can. And on week nights, the jazz band plays several sets up until 10:15 pm on the Matk Twain and alternate with sets while cruising the ROA on a tom sawyers raft. We saw the band on the river at 10:40 Tuesday night. Market house is closed at night for coffee, the closest coffee after park hours is Starbucks DD/ WOD. or coffee bean in Haggen Dazs DD Β  ice cream Β store till midnight.Β  - secretagentangel  7930.3 #12 1:41PM

I don't understand why it was changed in the first place. The area was closed down and rebranded as Grizzly Peak Airfield to be more cohesive with the "California" theme of the park and then they change the ride from Soarin Over California; which is sticking pretty close to the theme of the park; to Soarin Over The World? It just doesn't make sense to me. I understand updating the video itself, which is what I wish they had done.  - 1HitchhikingGhost  292.9 #1022 7:03PM
