Sep 3, 2013 10:38 PM  Disneyland Talk Land
Long post alert!!! So I really wanted to post this the last couple of days but was too tired to write a novel. So after this long weekend of Run Disney events, I was at first annoyed and have been for some months about the all of a sudden increased popularity of the Disney races and how difficult it had become over the past 9 months to sign up for an event but my annoyance turned to joy after this weekend. I have been into heath and fitness since high school and its always been a big part of my life and for the most part always been pretty fit. I had done my fair share of marathons before my days of joining MouseWait but the year before I joined MouseWait I had been in a bike accident on the boardwalk in Newport and broke my ankle and  cracked my wrist in 3 places that required two surgeries and was in a cast for over 10 months.  I had gained quite a bit of weight during that time that carried over until 3 years ago until I decided after a year plus of being injuried and at about 50 pounds hevier than I am now that I wanted to do the Disney marathon for the first time in 2 years and my good friend who some know YTheRum Ryan, wanted to do it also...That training regiment that the both of us did separately and working up to this event and the next has really turned both our lives around like no other. Since then I have lost 50 pounds, I have a body fat percentage of 17percent and still working to lower that, the increaed energy levels, my mental state of happiness and a fitness level that I have never expeinced in all my years. 3 years ago and in years past when I finshed a half martathon I could not walk down stairs and was in pain for days and could not run for a week plus. Now days, no pain, worked out for hours yesterday and today and ready for more!! I'm amazed at how good I feel these days and still have a lot of work to do to reach a lot of my fitness goals but am determined! The reason whey I am telling you all of this is because I really have seen a lot of people the past year plus do something that they never thought they were able to do in running a half marathon, running a 10K or 5K, it really does not matter which one it is as for a lot us the accomplishment is no bigger than the other.  During this time I cant tell you how many people I know that have turned over a new stone in life and really made running and living a healthy lifestyle that was all started by the desire to run a Disney marathon...Its no secret that a lot of people would never have ever thought of running a race in their life but they really wanted to for a few big reasons, number one being they wanted to run through the parks and experience that, the second big one was seeing that their peers were doing it and it gave them the courage to want to do it! The amount of support that goes on in here has honestly been overwhelming for those of us who are running a marathon for their first time or their 10th time. Its because of a lot of you that for the first time since I joined MouseWait that after the race I ran into so many people I know and I was proud of every single one of them. It doesnt matter if you finished the race in 150 or 350 or did not finish at all you still tried and did your best and nobody can take that away from you. When you dig deeper its really not a race at all but trying to accomplish something for yourself and yourself only.,,,To bring it all back to what I was saying at the beginning, I was annoyed at how hard it was to join a Run Disney race but I'm ok with that because what I have really realized is that Disney has gotten folks that normaly would never do soemthing like this to do it and train and try and live a healthy and active lifestyle and I support that 120%...Congrats to all the runners this year and hope that we seem some more new faces come TinkerBelle this January!!

This is awesome! I have been pretty active most of my life but after college I stopped being active. I joined MW and saw people running the Tink half a d decided that I would do it next year. I had never run a race or any running event and I went for the big one! I finished in just over 3 hrs and was so proud I myself and now I'm a run disney fan and want to go further with my fitness and maybe do a full marathon😳. This community is amazing support and I'm so proud of everyone who takes the leap to run any of the events. They are all a personal challenge. Thank you run disney for getting people moving! 😊 - CourtyAstroBlisters  807.5 #235 5:51PM
Thanks for posting this, Dave - encouraging to others to pursue their goals, despite adversity.  Sometimes our MW lives don't always tell the true story of our own personal struggles and perseverance. - Alicewhoareyou  2705.7 #54 11:00PM
Bully. No but really I haven't been on here in a long time but seeing you guys this weekend was inspiring. See you in January! - PinkElephants  745.7 #269 10:43PM
That was very nice Dave. I am one of those people who would never have signed up for a 10k unless it was at Disneyland. I volunteered at the Tinkerbell Half last year because I wanted to be a part of it, but didn't think I was a "runner". After seeing all the MW'ers accomplish their goals at Tinkerbell, I thought why not me. Finishing my first 10k (and running most of it) proved that I can do it. I look forward to doing my next 10k in January and I think I might just do the 5k too. Well, maybe I am a "runner" after all.  - goofymom2boys  1507.2 #117 10:58PM
Like I just texted you... I looked at my finishing pics from January and this weekend and I'm a changed person. I've clearly lost about 20 lbs and gained a sense of self that I've never had before. Just wanted to thank you for convincing me to spontaneously run the Tink in January. Changed my life forever :)  - MissMolly  1386.7 #132 11:33PM
No Thank you - Dave   13808.4 #4 11:36AM
Thank you for posting this, just today a few hours ago signed up for January's 10K. It's my 1st time doing this and I'm excited yet nervous. Something I have not mentioned on MW is I used to weigh over 400lbs! But in the last 2 years I have really changed my eating habits and have lost over 120lbs without doing any exercise. I know I still have a lot more to go but events like this are made to inspire and motivate. Well now I have no excuses, I have paid for the 10K and there is NO going back. I have to train for what is coming. I am very grateful for all of the MWers that give encouragement to us with the lack of motivation to overcome our obstacles and move forward.   - nicealex77  727.6 #276 5:39PM
You got this Gurl! πŸ‘πŸ‘ - dumbbunny  627.2 #336 5:44PM

Very nice Dave. - debbiev  1349.8 #136 10:47PM
Very cool. I am still waiting on my MRI and am pretty sure I will need minor surgery to clean up my knee...but really want to do our Sharks Fitness Faceoff 5K in June then the 5K at DLR next September. I'm trying to talk a friend into doing it as well. I'd aim for January, but need time to work out the osteoarthritis in my right knee while rehabbing the left!  - ythdudette  1527.5 #115 10:51PM
😳Wow!! That was a very touching post😌 I didn't know you went through an injury that bad.. I thought you had just injured your foot. You really do look amazing!! All of your hard work and training has really paid offπŸ˜ƒ. Thank you for your encouraging words..I have been struggling with some really hard health issues and I feel really jealous at times when I see folks out there running and being part of such an amazing activity. Your words are very encouraging to me...this whole marathon has really lifted me up.. I went kit and bought some comfy walking shoes...one day at a time 😊 - 2BeignetOrNot2Beignet  1471.6 #120 10:51PM
Thank you Dave!  Your story is definitely inspirational! - DisneyDavidEMT  2764.1 #52 10:54PM
Thank you, Dave. That was really heartfelt. I love how honest you always are. - LilMissPixie84  309.5 #893 10:54PM
Dave those are very inspiring words. Thank you for sharing this!  - Cinderella_Schnooks  3388.1 #45 10:55PM
Thank you for your inspiring story! I also have a similar situation with an injury and weight gain. Your story gives me a goal to work toward! 😊 - doxielover  18.3 #7941 10:59PM
Very beautifully said, Dave.  I'm one of those new, Disney inspired achievers and I appreciate your words of encouragement.  The unfailing encouragement and joy along every step of my first half -marathon not only kept me moving forward but is inspiring me to look beyond this event and to do more.  I know I can.  Thank you to runDisney for inspiring me and so many! - MoonWillow  381.3 #608 11:00PM
Wow Dave. That was a lot to read. But worth every word. You've done a tremondous job, and I'm proud of you and all the other runners. All of you inspire the rest of us to get off our duffs (no Duffy pun intended) and motivate us to achieve things that we thought weren't possible. Thanks for being a huge part of this community. πŸ‘ - Waites4DodgerEars_CM  1002.5 #195 11:02PM

Very well said and congrats on the personal growth (loss). I so wish I could get down to DL for the 5 or 10k. I blew my ACL at work and between off time and rehab gained 60 pounds. After 3 years of just being used to it I got back to the gym. My wife was my workout partner and we went five days a week. Cardio and racquet ball. 2 years later I'm 45 lbs down..... No more sleep apnea, no more panting on the way to the mail box. Just all around better. So again, congrats on your accomplishment and I'm with you 100%. Whatever gets people moving!   - NascarDave  323.8 #807 11:14PM
Thank you Dave!  Just reading about everyone training for the races and then seeing the posts after the races has been keeping me inspired to run the treadmill at my gym.  The spirit and strength of MWers is contagious! - MabelMouse  203.0 #2004 11:17PM
ok, the  first thing that freaked me out was 10 months in a cast!!  I would have gone crazy.  But the main thing I see is such a great attitude from you and how much you appreciate life, now more than ever.  and noticing all those who just tried their first race is awesome of you.  I hope you have many more races in your lifetime and congratulations on living such a healthy lifestyle!!!  and I know you love fine food, so it shows that with a little exercise you can still enjoy the tasty things in life!:) - secretagentangel  6431.0 #20 11:20PM
Priceless. THANK YOU. - iLOVELUCYnDISNEY  970.5 #197 11:21PM
It was awesome seeing you after the race. Love all that bling you were wearing. very inspiring. I try to encourage people run/jog/walk any disney race as much as I can. - VfxGenie  1556.7 #114 11:35PM

A big congrats to you and thanks for the inspiring post! - QueenMiranda  400.7 #578 11:49AM
Thanks for sharing and congrats on all your success!  This was very inspiring to read.  I've never been a runner or athlete of any kind partly bc of a medical issue and party bc I never thought I was cut out for it.  I love the stories and pics of the Disney runs...makes me think maybe I could try as well.  πŸ˜Š - MinnieMousewife  916.3 #206 11:55AM
Hi Dave...I think I might have been next to you before the start of the 10 k... Before we were cut loose to the corrals (that's assuming your bib did not say Dave). Anyhew, I share your thoughts on Run Disney - I would have NEVER done a half were it not for that first Tink. So happy I did it, I think I'll stick to the 10ks now though. That training time was a killer. - wannahockaloogie  218.3 #1797 12:06PM
yea my bib did not say dave it said cassandra haha - Dave   13808.4 #4 12:20PM
Well said Dave!  I hated running until I became motivated by the races in January because of all the MW post.  It has been two years since I have done any form of exercise.  I signed up for the 5k in July and since all the fun post from Sat, I am also going to do the 10k.  Its because of Disney and MW that I am excited and motivated about exercising again! - DisneyVacationLover  506.1 #440 12:30PM
Thank you for sharing your story! I am a momma of two handsome boys I just recently... Finally started to loose almost all of my baby weight. It was a huge struggle for me. Running and clean eating has changed my life and gotten me back to my old happy healthy self. Last weekend I did my first local 5K and really want to shoot for more! I know I can do it now so I plan on training for the tinkerbell half marathon. :) I know I can do it!! Thanks again for the inspiration!!  - PrincessKaylee  249.9 #1391 12:31PM
Ok, ok...you rock! ...just the push I needed to get a run done outside this morning. It was ugly, but I did it. Thanks for always sharing your running wisdom over the past year. Looking forward to my second half marathon in Jan. 😊 - Darlingwendi  1228.1 #149 5:00PM
Truly wonderful post Dave and congratulations. - dumbbunny  627.2 #336 5:11PM
It was because of MWers doing jthe RunDisney events that I decided to change my life style. I wanted to be involved so badly after seeing everyone's posts.  So I changed my life style and my husbands. Then proceeded to wrangle my family into events at The Tinkerbell weekend. πŸ˜„ - PrincessAuroraMomma  600.4 #352 8:53PM
Thanks for your thoughts! I competed in the 5k for the first time the lpast weekend. I wanted to get healthy and try something new and my love for Disney inspired me to do the RunDisney event. I trained all by myself and ran the 5k by myself. I had no one greeting me at the finish line. I was still so moved and had such a great time that I have signed up for the Tinkerbell 10k in January. I've only been met with people who don't think I can do it, but I know I'll prove them wrong. These RunDisney events have given me the courage to try harder and get outside my comfort zone. - dhBelle04  286.6 #1033 9:07PM
Thank you!  Last January I was inspired by reading everyone's posts.  My husband and I signed up for this past 5K and started training right away.  I am definitely not at my ideal weight  and have had asthma since I was a kid.  Running is great for strengthening your lungs.  I can now run for 5 minutes straight, which is awesome!   I had been tempted to quit many times since January, especially after losing 2 toenails.  But we did it!  I even exceeded my goal time!  It felt awesome!  I signed up for the 10K in January as soon as I got home.  So thank you and all the other Disney runners for being so inspiring! I can't wait for January! - AZDisney  610.4 #343 9:08PM
This was amazing an insperatonal!! ::waits for sign ups:: no more chubby Snow White! πŸ˜œπŸŽ‰ - APirateslifeforme31  170.3 #2453 9:13PM
Great words, thanks Dave! I am planning on doing the half next year, and all thanks to seeing all of the great posts from this years runners.  - Geekery  409.4 #562 9:37PM
Congrats! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ - iheartDLR18  8.7 #12374 9:44PM
I have to admit you and ytherum inspired to think of running. I think running in general is getting popular. Every race event I go to now is pretty packed and theme races are popping everywhere. I honestly never thought I was a runner but I enjoy my runs so much. I display my medals in my classroom and my students love them, they want to go run outside for fun. I was shocked that I had very little soreness and was able to work out the next day and ran 6 miles the following. Training has truly changed me inside as much as outside and I looked at my running picture from a year ago and you can easily see a more confident, more healthier and fit and happier person in this year pictures. Thank you for inspiring so many of us!  - MarshaMouse  5036.1 #27 10:07PM
Thanks Marsha, you are also inspiring so many with your runs and your accomplishments!! Its pretty amazing what your body can do when you put time and effort into it and for so many people out there they are thinking they cant do this because well they are not a runner or are not very good at it and they just cant picture themselves doing it but in fact if they just gave it a shot and tried, I think they would surprise themselves - Dave   13808.4 #4 11:24PM
Totally shocked myself! Ran most except to drink fluids and felt good afterwards. It's amazing what you can do when you want to accomplish it. Never thought I would feel as normal as u did. I seriously could have done 10k DDD but at the time didn't think I could do the half. DDD is my next big goal. If Tink half slots open up ill have my own Tink DD - MarshaMouse  5036.1 #27 11:30PM
You and Rum are pretty awesome guys, Dave. So glad to have gotten to know you both over the years. And very proud of you! - LBChica  2543.8 #61 10:09PM
From that moment that I saw you & YTR 3 years ago running while I was volunteering for the half, I KNEW I had to do it eventually. I've had my fair share of long distance runs during my middle school til Β now college years, that never had a single half marathon runΒ in all that I've been in. Last weekend, It was one of my proudest moments, with minimal training getting back into it... I got my expected time and I'm truly happy to know that I still have the running distance that I still had before. Now I'm really training and hoping to beat my time in January, and I'm extremely looking forward to it!Β Congrats again my friend and here's to more to come! - iPoca.  916.9 #205 11:46PM

MouseWait COUNTDOWN for iOS is here! Countdown the days to your next Disneyland or Disney World trip with our images OR your pics! Your Countdown also displays on Apple Watch and is beautiful on iPhone 6 screens. Secure the discounted launch price for a limited time.

So from the looks of it, there is not even one app made for those of us on android. You know there are millions of people who do not own iPhones. Its kind of rediculous these days not to offer an android version of apps. Would love to help this site grow by donating, but I see no point in that when there appears to be no intrest by the app builders here to support android. I mean how about atleast a partialy functional app so we can feel that theΒ android users are even wanted as a part of the mousewait community.Β I see lots of requests and sad posts about no android, but dont see any replys by the site to the fact that anyone is even working on it.I've checked back here every so offten to see if there is anything for android users, but never bothered joining until today.I just wanted to rant a little, and now I am done.Unfortunalty, at this point I think I am officaily giving up on mousewait.Β Thanks for reading Β and understanding my frustrations ( i hope ) and please everyone........Have a Disney-tastic day!Mark - molney14u  0.1 #105818 11:05AM
I have an iPhone and an old droid. I use the old droid for wait times when my iPhone can't connect and it works fine. There's so many droid phones to have  separate apps for but I hope android makers would start using the basic same code and security but I'm probably wishing on a star for that . I miss my droid but a lot of apps don't work the same.  - secretagentangel  6431.0 #20 8:10PM

Disneyland unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. The unFORECAST now has its own page on the web www.unFORECAST.com

unFORECAST for the month of May 2016
The last few weeks have been relatively quiet, but we will see crowds rise as we get to the end of May, especially toward the end of the month when Grad Nite begins. Looking back at MouseWait's Historical Crowd Index (available in our MagicPlan iOS Calendar), crowds averaged in the high 70s (approx 70% capacity), then the Crowd Index rose to the 80s toward the end of the month. Remember, we've seen larger crowds ever since the 60th Celebration began, so keep that in mind when looking at historical Crowd Index data. To get a real-time look at crowd levels, check the MouseWait App for Crowd Index averages and wait times. Have a great week! - Admin May 9, 2016 5:42PM
