Good morning! This day in Disney history, August 27th:"Reason and Emotion" was released, The Mickey Mouse Club Theater opened in Fantasyland and Mary Poppins had it's world premier!
1943: "Reason and Emotion", directed by Bill Roberts is released.
Animated by Ward Kimball and Ollie Johnson, Reason and Emotion is a propaganda short created during World War II. It studies the connection between the mind and emotions. The cartoon humorously demonstrates this by taking viewers inside the animated heads of various people, to depict the primitive and caveman-like “Emotion” and the proper and intellectual “Reason.”
Can any of you relate? I know I can! ::reaches for my glass of water:: I MUST stay away from those doughnuts staring at me from the counter! ::giggles::
Also on this day in 1955: The Mickey Mouse Club Theater opens in Disneyland's Fantasyland.
It was the official Disneyland headquarters of the Mousketeers until 1963. An air conditioned theater where you could watch Disney cartoons. On June 16th, 1956, 3D Jamboree debuted there in color! A 3D film with the mouseketeers introducing the short films Melody and Working for Peanuts.
In 1964, the name changed to the Fantasyland Theater. It closed in 1982 (along with most other original Fantasyland attractions) for the New Fantasyland project. In 1983, it became Pinocchio’s Daring Journey.
Anyone here remember these attractions?
And lastly for today in 1964: my very favorite Disney movie, Mary Poppins has it's gala World Premier at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
The premiere was broadcast live on Los Angeles television, with a separate radio broadcast of the festivities. Some of of Hollywoods most famous stars and guests atteneded including: Maureen O'Hara, James Franciscus, Celeste Holm, Walter Slezack, the cast of the Dick Van Dyke Show, Agnes Moorehead, Annette Funicello and her fiancé Jack Gilardi, Roddy McDowall, Suzanne Pleshette, Carol Lynley, Buddy Ebsen, Kathryn Grayson, Ann Miller, and Brian Keith, George Hamilton, Angela Lansbury, Debbie Reynolds, Angie Dickinson, and Carl Reiner among others. After the screening, there was a five minute standing ovation and the guests attended a lavish after party hosted by Technicolor.
Mary Popppins will go on to win Academy Awards for Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Song AND Best Special Visual Effects!
To watch an AMAZING video with scenes from the premier:
Do you have a favorite scene from Mary Poppins?
Thanks for reading and watching! Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday! Don't forget about the new MW pins releasing tonight at 9pm! :)

#24HourDay TRAFFIC, PARKING, PARK CLOSURES, TICKET SALES...Please use this post to keep everyone updated on what's happening during the 24 hour day!!! Since ppl are already heading out, I thought I'd post this now. We all know what happened on Leap Day with the freeway being jammed, parking being blocked, ticket sales stopped and the Parks being closed due to capacity!! As you are coming to the Parks, please update us if the freeway and roads are backed up, if parking areas are closed and if so, where did you have to park? Is the ramp open to access M&F? Were you not able to purchase a ticket? Were you not allowed into the Parks? Please add anything else you might find helpful. A lot of people will be coming after work, so it will help them know what to expect and if they will be allowed in the Parks at that time. Let's keep this bumped and updated as much as possible!! If you need any updates, just ask here!! Have a great and safe 24 hour day!! Happy 60th!!!! - caramiapoohAKAface
