I've had a few rough weeks training for the DL half...๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿšถto the point where I was wondering if I had ruined my love of running, lol. ๐Ÿ˜” I know all athletes hit tough patches in their training, but I was really feeling worse mentally than I'd ever expected, and hadn't felt "runner's high" for what felt like years. I REALLY wasn't looking forward to my first ten miler today (my first ever double-digit run), but it ended up going really well! I finished 2 minutes per mile quicker than last week's nine-miler. I'm feeling a lot stronger today and A LOT more confident about the upcoming run, now! I guess it's true that the struggle is usually more mental than physical. I'm starting to look forward to my last few weeks of training, and I know a more positive attitude will make a difference. โœจPlease share your stories and victories: what do you do when "the going gets tough?" Any special tips or words of advice for other Chub 33ers who've hit a tough spot (of any kind)?

So glad today went well for you! When things get tough for me, I have to really ask myself what I want. In the end only I can make it happen. I also have to look at my daughter and look at the example I'm setting for her. She's her Momma's daughter so when it comes to weight. She has the potential to have the same issues I do and I don't want that๐Ÿ˜ž - ElectricMayhemMom  1435.1 #119 7:26PM
That's great that you're setting such a positive example for your daughter! I don't have kids yet, but hopefully I will in the future, and that thought motivates me, too--I want to be a good example and provide a healthy environment for them. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  613.1 #331 8:47PM
I've never trained for something like that so I wouldn't know. I sort of want to do the run/walk training, but my dog is getting older (he'll be 12 this December) and he's more into sniffing than running. I did okay tonight, but I really don't want to push him (and I'm such a pathetic dog mommy that I wouldn't think of going out without him). I did get on my elliptical tonight for the first time in months. Only did 20 minutes - I guess I could look at that as a workout and push to go longer and longer. Great job SoS. I can't even fathom running 10 miles! - msdizmaui  716.8 #270 11:47PM
I bring my pup with me for my short runs and I stopped off at home to get some Gatorade and picked him up for the last 2 miles yesterday. It breaks my heart having to leave him! One thing I won't miss when this is over is having to be so conscious of my mileage and time. It'll feel good to just relax and enjoy going out with him. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  613.1 #331 8:27AM
Speaking specifically about running, when I'm in a funk I change up my route and playlist. It usually helps! Good luck with your DL Half training!! I'm looking forward to running it soon. - PirateQueenBriezy  330.9 #743 10:23AM
Yeah, I live in a really hilly area, and I realized that I just dread certain hills, lol, so I need to switch things up more. Maybe even going to the track once a week will help. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  613.1 #331 2:43PM
You are so right that is is more a mental challenge than a physical one. I agree with PQB about changing up your routine so it doesn't get boring. I also try to look back at how far I have come. And also just browse for motivation on Pinterest or some of the run club pages on Facebook. That will usually get my juices going and make me want to get back out there. Congrats on your 10 miles! (I did 6 today - my longest run to date!). That is awesome! Enjoy your DL Half....it will be here before you know it. You will rock it! - D55CR  249.9 #1354 10:48AM
Congrats on your 6 miler! Thanks for the advice! I've also started using a few mantras when I'm feeling sluggish and those really helped! The only problem is that we've got a wild fire in the area and the air is all smoky now, so it looks like I'll have to use the treadmill for the next few days :/ - Spoonful_O_Sugar  613.1 #331 2:41PM
Woohoo congrats on your 6 mile!.. - Twinklelashes  146.4 #2772 10:56AM
Thanks, Ladies! - D55CR  249.9 #1354 4:04PM
6 miles...10 miles...you're all my idols! I walk-run 1-2 miles every night and that's enough for me! - msdizmaui  716.8 #270 1:30AM
Well SOS I haven't trained for a marathon but I agree switching up your playlist always gets me moving.. I also have on great food documentaries while I am cooling and that inspires me..you are doing fantastic auberges there are some good training documentaries to inspire you on your down time!.. In my book you are already a superhero! - Twinklelashes  146.4 #2772 10:59AM
