Help! I am at my wits end with my dog! She is a 5 year old West Highland Terrier who USED to be well behaved and house broken. Ever since MrHoney and I moved in together 6 months ago, I can't get her to listen, she barks constantly, and he has accidents in the house. Moving in with him did introduce new animals into her life, so at first I thought she was just acting out. But we crate her every night, spray her when she barks, reward her when she does right, and after 6 months it has had NO impact. It's so frustrating because she used to be perfect! Does anyone have any advice for me?  Its getting to the point where i am contemplating adopting her out, but that would break my heart.

I wish I could help but I'm havin the same problem with my fiancé  - Kittymeowmeow  271.3 #815 4:40PM
@potc any advice is welcome! Thank you! @kitty I'm sorry  - MsHoney  47.5 #3807 4:44PM
Something similar happened to my puppy after a really horrible experience at the groomer, my first advice is patience, I know that's hard! And second in your situation make sure to devote time for just her every day and see if that helps, also does she get along with the new animals? - Pixarprincess  531.4 #215 4:49PM
Sounds like she's jealous - Sonja  5728.5 #3 4:52PM
Hi PixarP! She cohabitates with the other animals fine, but she definitely asserts that SHE is the boss. As long as they go along with that, it's fine. If they do something she doesn't like, she'll growl. She doesn't get violent though thank goodness. - MsHoney  47.5 #3807 4:56PM
MsH- I think ur westie is feeling overwhelmed. How many additional animals does she hang out with now? And are they constantly wanting to play with her? From what I gather from ur post, it sounds like she had you all to herself for 4 and a half years. Niw she has to share you with everyone else. I agree with Pixar, maybe some one-on-one time will help. And LOOONG walks will hopefully put her in a more calm mood. Much luck to you!  - MingyMouse  35.5 #4154 5:02PM
I would say try having mommy and doggie time everyday, go on a walk, play or just cuddle you and her and see if it helps. Dogs are like kids they get jealous and she sees you as hers, so mr.hp and the other animals are invading her space. Hopefully the individual time will help. White vinegar should help get the smell out of anything she has accidents on. - Pixarprincess  531.4 #215 5:02PM
Thanks guys. It was just me and her for most of her life. She lived with my dads dog for a while but was separated from him a lot so they were fine. MrH has a dog who is a big dog, which she isn't used to, and two cats who she used to be very curious about but now doesn't have much interest in. Those are great tips, it's hard to give her one on one time because all of the animals and Mr want my attention when we aren't working. But i'm willing to make the effort. - MsHoney  47.5 #3807 5:10PM
Try it for a week, only needs to be 15+ min a day, you will know pretty quickly if it's going to work!  - Pixarprincess  531.4 #215 5:12PM
Sounds like it's a lot of changes. She maybe jealous and insecure. I think the 1 on1 time is a good idea. Call the dog whisper guy. Lol. Good luck - Mommadisneyfan  20.5 #5003 5:13PM
She is missing her "only child" status and is probably trying to establish where she belongs in the new pack of animals. We took in 2 shelter dogs about 2 1/2 years ago and already had 2 older dogs are one of the new dogs really rebelled and wanted to be #1 in the pack. We hired a dig trainer to come in and observe all of them and now we know Oliver just needed lots of attention and exercise. I run with him almost everday and it has helped so much. Plus it's his one on one time with me and he needed that. Try to give your pet more time before you adopt it out. Abandoning your dog right now would be terrible. - Fantasmic  21.6 #4923 5:31PM
Yeah I would never be able to go through with parting from her. The frustration just makes those thoughts dance in my head sometimes because I feel I am failing her as an owner. She can't be happy being so imbalanced. - MsHoney  47.5 #3807 5:58PM
I hope things work out I know how much a part of your family a dog becomes! Keep us posted on your progress - Pixarprincess  531.4 #215 6:19PM
Thanks pix! Will do.  - MsHoney  47.5 #3807 6:23PM
Sounds like a ceasar millan job and he is in the LA area but I think Fantasmic is on the right track. Dogs are creatures of habit and balanced differently from there human gaurdians . Sounds like you need one on one time walking the dog! - BirthdayGoof  175.1 #1925 6:25PM
Yes. Walking time is a must. Thanks all! - MsHoney  47.5 #3807 7:22PM
I love ceaser millian. He's awesome.  - @ms_annette  40.5 #3981 7:32PM
You should read his books. The first one was very helpful for me. My dog was wild on walks. I followed his method and was able to walk him off leash and get him to stay only on the sidewalk and not go on grass. I would also stop walking and he would back up and sit next to me. Neighbors complimented him. - DznyHeart  82.0 #3253 7:40PM
Oh and once I became the leader I was able to give him filet mignon as a treat once a month. I would make him sit and throw pieces around the room and he wouldn't budge until I said it was ok. Read the book. It's great. - DznyHeart  82.0 #3253 7:42PM
That's awesome Dzny! Definitely will do. It's worth a shot. - MsHoney  47.5 #3807 7:57PM
Good luck and be patient. - DznyHeart  82.0 #3253 8:05PM
Yeah Cesar books are great & work. Also take your dog to playdatedates @ PetSmart hotel. It's done wonders for our 22 month old English mastiff. Try it & see the good results! - BeautyandTheBeast  142.7 #2400 9:01PM
