Does anyone else think that the person giving the reward looks like another (in the future) famous Disney character?
*Also on this day in 1955: just three days before the grand debut of Disneyland, Casey Jr. Circus Train encounters safety concerns.
A test run over the new tracks led to the engine almost tipping over backwards as it attempted the 25-percent grade. To counteract the issue, lead weights were added to the front in an attempt to allow the train as able to run on opening day. Sadly, according to what I've read, it did not. The attraction was shut down and Casey Jr. did not run again until July 31. Opeining only after work crews had leveled the grades and slowed down the attraction.
In addition, The Moonliner Rocket over in Tomorrowland receives its pointed silver top via a worker who is suspended from a crane 76 feet above the ground!
*Lastly for today, in 1978: The American Egg House opened on Main Street U.S.A.
Serving Breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant was located at the old Maxwell House/Hills Brothers Coffee House location.
To kick things off, the restaurants cook attempts to break the Guinness book of world records record for omelet preparation.
Chris Strodder writes in The Disneyland Encyclopedia:
"…in fact there's mention of some kind of "omelet record" being set at this Main Street location, though what the record was remains unclear and unverified."
I'm not sure where he got this information originally. Perhaps it came from a souvenir guidebook. The July 20, 1978?
Disneyland Line fills in the gap:
"An artful display of culinary genius added to the excitement of last Friday's Grand Opening ceremonies at Main Street's American Egg House. Howard Helmer, demonstrating cook with the American Egg Board, broke the world record for omelet preparation. Easily passing the old record of 188 omelets, Howard produced 217 two-egg omelets in only 30 minutes, assuring himself a spot in Guinness's next edition of its famous record book."

Disneyland unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. The unFORECAST now has its own page on the web www.unFORECAST.com
unFORECAST for the week of August 31, 2015 Look for light crowds this week until Labor Day weekend begins on Friday. Disneyland and California Adventure will close early for the second week in a row (DL 9pm, DCA 8pm). Looking back at MouseWait's Historical Crowd Index (available in our new MagicPlan iOS Calendar), this week last year averaged in the high 50s (approx 60% capacity) -- that means it was a very slow week. Even Labor Day last year (which fell on the 1st) averaged in the mid 70s, which is light for a holiday. Now that most schools are back in session, we should see lighter crowds at the Parks until Halloweentime begins! To get a real-time look at crowd levels, check the MouseWait App for Crowd Index averages and wait times. Have a great week! - Admin Aug 31, 2015 9:23PM
