Good morning! This day in Disney history, July 13th, 1925: Walt Disney marries Lillian Marie Boundsat Lewiston's Espiscopal Church of the Nativity in Lewiston, Idaho.
Since Lillian's father is deceased, her Uncle who is chief of the Lewiston Fire Department gives her away. Reverend D.J.W. Somerville performs the ceremony and Lillian's sisters, Hazel Sewell and Sydney Bounds, are the witnesses.
The Newlyweds met at work when Lillian moved to LA in 1923. She was hired at Walt Disney Studios as a inker of animated cels and secretary. Walt and Lillian had two children, Diane Marie Disney and Sharon Mae Disney who was adopted.
Below is a photo from July 13, 1955, just four days before the official opening of Disneyland. A 30th anniversary party for the two love birds was held at the Golden horseshoe. Three hundred guests were invited. A few of the guests in attendance, Spencer Tracy, Gary Cooper, and Cary Grant. Guests were chauffeured down main street U.S.A in horse-drawn surreys down to Frontierland where they boarded the Mark Twain and sipped on mint julieps. Next, they were treated to the very first, but unofficial, performance of the Golden Horseshoe Revue.
Today would have been their 88th wedding anniversary! :)
In 1957 (supposedly) The petrified tree stump was installed in Frontierlandnear the ROA. (although I have found a few sites that waiver on the exact date) Originally purchased in 1956 as a 31st anniversary gift for Lillian, it was reported that she was quoted as saying it was "too big for the mantle." ::giggles:: Unsure what to do with it, she donated it to the park.
I'm guessing it was really Walt that wanted the tree for himself. ;) The original tree was from the Pike Petrified forest in Colorado and was estimated to be 200' tall.
The plaque in front of the tree reads:
"PETRIFIED TREE FROM THE PIKE PETRIFIED FOREST, COLORADO THIS SECTION WEIGHS FIVE TONS AND MEASURES 7 1/2 FEET IN DIAMETER. THE ORIGINAL TREE, ESTIMATED TO HAVE BEEN 200 FEET TALL, WAS PART OF A SUB-TROPICAL FOREST 55 TO 70 MILLION YEARS AGO IN WHAT IS NOW COLORADO. SCIENTISTS BELIEVE IT TO BE OF THE REDWOOD OF SEQUOIA SPECIES. DURING SOME PRE HISTORIC ERA A CATACLYSMIC UPHEAVAL CAUSED SILICA LADEN WATER TO OVER SPREAD THE LIVING FOREST. WOOD CELLS WERE CHANGED DURING THE COURSE OF TIME TO SANDSTONE. OPALS WERE FORMED WITHIN THE TREE TRUNK ITSELF. PRESENTED TO DISNEYLAND BY MRS. WALT DISNEY SEPTEMBER, 1957"
Again, I'm unsure why the plaque says September, perhaps someone here knows? Perhaps it is the day it was officially presented to Lillian in the park? Still very interesting on this special day for Walt and Lillian.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Thanks, as always for reading!

unFORECAST for the week of June 1, 2015
This Friday marks the first day of the SoCal Select blockouts (that last through the end of Summer). Expect decent crowds this week--our Historical Crowd Index shows high-70s. The Parks are on late hours through the end of Summer and have selectively extended hours in DCA (Sunday and tonight). Things should ramp up on Friday and it should be a busy weekend. We are still at pre-Summer crowd levels, so now is the time to go if you want to beat the big crowds this Summer. Watch MouseWait for real-time Crowd Index updates as the Resort becomes unpredictable this time of year. - Admin Jun 1, 2015 3:19PM
