Good afternoon & Happy Fathers Day to all the MW Dads! This day in Disney history, June 16th, 1956: Tom Sawyer Island & the Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island in Frontierland open. Guests can visit the island, surrounded by the Rivers of America, by traveling on a motorized raft which is piloted by a Disneyland cast member (one of the few vehicles NOT on a track). The Island was shut-down February 5, 2007 for the $28 million addition of “Pirate’s Lair at Tom Sawyer Island.” Unveiling date was May 25, 2007. Have you been on the island?
Also on this same day, The film "3D Jamboree" @ the Mickey Mouse Club Theater premiers. The short 3D Jamboree features the famous Mouseketeers & their leader Jimmy Dodd. The presentation includes the animated shorts "Melody" and "Working for Peanuts" all in 3D. Anyone remember this? I couldn't find much info on it.
In addition, Storybook Land Canal Boats (originally known as Canal Boats of the World in 1955) opened in Fantasyland! Four Mouseketeers (Darlene, Lonnie, Sharon, & Bobby) joined a half dozen other children as the American Dairy Princess christened the boats w/a pint of milk poured over the hulls. The attraction features 13 boats (powered by outboard motors) Which are scaled-down replicas of Dutch, English, & French boats, named after female Disney characters (except for Flower) Original 13 Storybook Boat Names: Cinderella, Daisy, Aurora, Alice, Faline, Flora, Fauna, Flower, Katrina, Merryweather, Wendy, Snow White, & Tinkerbell. Belle & Ariel were later additions. Anyone know which part of this attraction was once used as a ticket booth? Find the answer in the photo below. ;)
Lastly, in 1957: Holidayland, a land that existed for only five years, a nine-acre grassy picnic ground located along the western edge of Disneyland, opened. It had its own admission gate into the park & could hold up to 7,000 guests, for large events. Run by Milt Albright, Holidayland's manager (& future Disney Legend), it featured a regulation softball diamond, horseshoe pits and volleyball court, Holidayland featured—direct from its starring role in Disneyland’s Mickey Mouse Club Circus—the “world’s largest candy-striped circus tent.” At first dubbed “Holiday Park,” the picnic & special events area was originally planned for a woodsy area between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, but ended up just outside the berm, near Frontierland. (Today, Holidayland is a parking lot for employees.) Holidayland closed in 1961 due to its lack of shade, nighttime lighting, restrooms, & alleged lack of Disney "flavor". For a more info & photos from Holidayland: http://tinyurl.com/ku5c2xr I'm thinking this would have made a fabulous MW meetup location. ::giggles:: Had you heard of this attraction?
Thanks, as always, for reading! :) Hope you all have a GREAT rest of the day! :)

A personal favorite is the beautifully hand crafted music box
A fun video from 2013, the story behind the music box with Clopin, Figaro and the even watch the Tangled Tower being put into the Fantasy Faire:
Of course, no trip to the Fantasy Faire would be complete without a visit to the Royal Hall. Loved this artist rendition, that's just how my girls are when they enter the Hall. ::sigh::
Took this next part directly from Disney Parks Blog:
“After walking into our main entrance, you will first go through a garden-like setting before entering the reception hall,” said Michel Den Dulk, Creative Director of Fantasy Faire for Walt Disney Imagineering. “Once inside the Royal Hall, guests will discover a beautiful gothic interior with nice wallpaper, wall cresting, wood finishes and chandeliers.”
Passing through a series of spaces, including the Grand Hall, you’ll have the opportunity to meet as many as three Disney princesses, from classic stories such as “Cinderella” and “Sleeping Beauty.”
Dont forget to grab a sweet treat from Maurice's Treats! At the time, (isn't there more now?) the adorable cart featured 3 “Twists” and a new signature beverage: Boysen Apple Freeze.
In a tribute to the historic Carnation Plaza Gardens, a shield over the archway leading from Fantasy Faire to Rancho del Zocalo in Frontierland displays the letters “CPG.”
