The Today Show will report on line cutting tomorrow "Inside Disney: New Scheme to Cut Lines" UPDATE 2013-06-03 Video of the Today Show coverage on Friday, May 31, 2013 "Undercover at Disney: 'Deplorable' scheme to skip lines" http://on.today.com/17Drl1f Disney's statement from the report "We find it deplorable that people would hire the disabled to abuse accommodations that were designed to permit our guests with disabilities to enjoy their time in our parks. We have initiated a review of this abuse and will take appropriate steps to deter this type of unacceptable activity." Also the report goes on to say: "Disney is cracking down, sending out warning letters to anyone advertising these services online. And if they catch any of these "disabled tour guides" in the act, their disabled passes will be revoked, and they won't be allowed back into the park. By the way, we also called the American Association of People with Disabilities. They agree with Disney that this practice is abusive and should be stopped." The comments portion of the online report is interesting, too.

I think the way to deal with this is that the guest is given a return/fast pass based on the current wait time. For example if the wait for Indy is 60 mins they get a return card that is good 60 to 120 mins from now. This still allows the guest to bypass the line but makes cheating less attractive since the guest doesn't get immediately to the front of the line - mike714  338.1 #732 9:08AM
Not a bad idea, they currently do that for the Princess meet & greet in Fantasy Faire. It worked out great for us because my back was killing me when lil chica wanted to see them. So we were able to sit nearby and have a snack until it was our turn. - LBChica  2529.7 #60 9:49AM
I thought that's what they did at RSR, Toy Story and Star Tours? - Linzee  1340.2 #135 10:00AM
Linseed, you get a return time for RSR. Toy Story you get on at the exit and Star Tour you go through fast pass line. No return time for last two. - HalfCaff  582.6 #356 10:04AM
*Linzee* sorry - HalfCaff  582.6 #356 10:05AM
ahhh things have changed in the last few years since we had to use one. Thanks for the update!! - Linzee  1340.2 #135 10:06AM
Actually, it's not the exit at ToyvStory. It's just a special handicap line.... your welcome - HalfCaff  582.6 #356 10:11AM
This is what they did for my friend and I for the Princess/Prince meet and greets during True Love Week. I thought it worked pretty well. - JustCantWait  1148.5 #160 10:20AM
Time to enter this into the Disneyland suggestion box. BTW, is there such a thing? - onezerohero  174.2 #2367 10:40AM
Last time I went on TSMM through the GAC entrance, the CM let us slide and allowed us to go in. But he said they are beginning to give out return time passes for TSMM now. - ZeeAlice  621.7 #337 11:39PM
@JustCantWait Well now I am so bummed about the Valentine's meet and greet. I went up to a CM and told him that I had a guest assistance card and couldn't stand in line and asked if I could have just have the autograph and he never offered to give me a pass to come back. Hubby and I sat for 90 minutes just to catch the couples walking in and out. I guess I should've worded my inquiry better but that's good to know now because I've only seen the princesses twice when it was a 5 minute wait. Thanks LBchica and JCW. I love the characters so much and often miss out. - Cinderella_Schnooks  3379.3 #43 12:24AM
The sucky thing about stories like this is that it will give people ideas, many don't know about GACs, but will now. I really hope this doesn't up the GAC abuse and make it more difficult for people who really need and benefit from GACs to get them. - Linzee  1340.2 #135 8:42AM
Not necessarily, all that needs to happen is the ADA steps in and tells Disney they can't question anyone. I know that is what happening with public transportation in my town. I have seen dogs that are clearly not medical assistance dogs on the bus. I contacted the company and they informed me that some legislation was passed because of the ADA that they can't ask for any type of proof that it is a medical dog. Disney can decide to start requiring some type of proof of a medical need. Then it takes for some to complain to the ADA about discrimination. Then Disney won't be allowed to question anymore. - Lelundrial  687.1 #294 9:06AM
Still might lead to increased wait times for GAC users due to even more people potentially abusing the system. - Linzee  1340.2 #135 9:14AM
Oh I agree with you. I am getting surgery in a few months, and will be on crutches. I am worried about even asking for the GAC, even though I will be legally declared disabled. - Lelundrial  687.1 #294 9:38AM
Everyone tells me that I need to get a pass due to my back, but I'm too embarrassed to get one, so I just suffer through the pain or don't wait in lines that are more than 30 minutes. - RadioMaverick  1248.0 #142 9:47AM
Suck it up and go get the pass Mav. You don't always have to use it...at some, like Toy Story you'll get a return time pass. - Linzee  1340.2 #135 9:59AM
I usually wait for someone has a pass and piggy back on them. :) - RadioMaverick  1248.0 #142 10:24AM
Mav I am in the same boat as you. I have a really bad back, spinal compression problems and bad scoliosis. Standing in line for long time makes my back feel like its on fire but I refuse to get a GAC. I just get as many fast passes as I can and tough out the ones that have long lines with no fast passes (waited 45 minutes for toy story and thought I might die from back pain). By no means am is suggesting you do what I do. I am just to stubborn to get one (even having medical proof). - missmimi90  2033.3 #82 11:54PM
This is exactly what my hubby said and then asked if it's going to make it difficult for me to get mine. What is funny is I always have them make it out for 6 in case we have our friends with us and when it's just hubby and I and I tell the CM that they look at me funny like they are used to it always being parties of 6. - Cinderella_Schnooks  3379.3 #43 12:17AM
There are all types of people that make up our society. The people that are particicipating on either sides of this scheme , obviously choose a different path than I do . I believe you should live an honest life and role model that for your children as well. I think it's sad , no ones really getting away with anything , they will pay for it in the long run. Life has a way of correcting these things (karma) . And I tell myself maybe the people selling their time and their cards are about to lose their home , or have high medical bills, this doesn't justify it at all . But I haven't walked a day in their shoes. It's sad families are teaching their kids the lesson to cheat at of all places DL. I however can sleep at night knowing I'm being the best person I can, and I enjoy the times in line taking with my husband and kids. We are a typical busy family ... Sports, activities , scouting. So our time is valuable . See what I mean , the others are losing out in every sense of the word. - eviljules  1433.8 #122 8:18AM
And you call yourself evil? I think not, my dear! Brava to you! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘†πŸ‘†πŸ‘†πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ - MeridaFan  4243.8 #36 8:23AM

TY both :) it's just my two cents ;) lol - eviljules  1433.8 #122 10:06AM
Honestly, I don't really believe that particular scheme is anything more than media hype (especially when you consider that the original source for this story was the New York Post). We know that people do abuse the GAC, but why would someone pay a $1000 to a "guide" when they could rent a wheelchair themselves for $40 or simply claim some non-visible disability (if they were that kind of jerk)? This seems like something that was told to someone's cousin's uncle's friend who happened to be a reporter with a deadline on a slow news day. - JustCantWait  1148.5 #160 9:19AM
When I first read the story, I immediately thought it would have been cheaper to rent a scooter. - Lelundrial  687.1 #294 9:39AM
Man at those prices, why don't they just get a plaid and not worry about the GAC line. Guaranteed to be faster since a GAC doesn't always let you get on right away. - Sarafina  491.7 #449 10:17AM
Sarafina, a plaid, is approx $200 per hour with a 6-hour minimum reservation. That's $1,200. - onezerohero  174.2 #2367 10:59AM
My mistake - the $200 per hour plaid doesn't include "expedited boarding." The $300 per hour plaid does, so that would be $1,800 for 6-hour minium booking. - onezerohero  174.2 #2367 11:03AM
From an article I read on this a few weeks ago, the $1000 isn't just for use of the GAC. They are paying for an unofficial tour guide who is familiar with the park, as well as taking advantage of that person's AP discounts. Still stupid, but they aren't just paying for use of the GAC. - brit_brit  308.3 #898 12:18PM
okay, I couldn't remember the prices. Still, if it's such a big deal for them, I'm surprised they don't just spend the extra money. - Sarafina  491.7 #449 12:55PM
Renting a wheelchair or scooter does not get you access. You have to have the special pass to get you in. - mlatour  347.4 #704 12:11AM
I did not see the gac cheats on ebay but a few months ago some people started advertising fast pass guides and it was at least a hundred an hour for so many guests. basically they run to all the fast passes and get you yours, plus they do some tour guide stuff, or will wait for the parade or whatever, but i just think you should find a friend or family member and share the duties. I have a pass, we use it sparingly, without it we could not go on the few attractions we do each visit, but I also teach my brother we only use it a couple of times, and if the line is super long, we don't impact it with us. - secretagentangel  5720.6 #22 12:19AM
Well there goes my retirement income. - sr_citizen_space_ranger  70.0 #4230 11:52AM
lol - mike714  338.1 #732 12:22PM
Sad to know that some people's values are so messed up and twisted, but 🎢what goes around comes around🎢 I still say the people running these "businesses" and the people using them should be forced to sit in front of a panel of devastatingly disabled people and explain why they did what they did. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  621.0 #339 8:38AM
That took awhile. That story about those people hiring a disabled person to get them at the front of the line at WDW was on the internet over a week ago. - Lelundrial  687.1 #294 8:08AM
Ah, okay, so that's what it is. Sounds like it will be an interesting segment. - onezerohero  174.2 #2367 8:38AM
Yeah, from the story I read they were mainly these wealthy families in New York. They would hire this person, and use the GAC to get them to the front of the line. The same article mentioned the plaid service that can be hired as well. So of course some people attacked Disney saying they didn't like it because it cut into their profits. - Lelundrial  687.1 #294 9:03AM
This horrible scheme was covered last week on ABC. Unfortunately, I think word is out to those who want to abuse this policy. The handicap line for Indiana Jones last weekend was the longest I have ever seen. About 10% of those in line (sorry I'm an analyst in real life) appeared to be handicapped. ABC said its wealthy visitors who hire the handicapped for about $1,000 a day. Just sick. - DeadliestPassholder  338.9 #729 8:54AM
While it's clear that GAC is being abused more & more, let's not forget that not all handicaps are visible. I get dirty looks all the time using my GAC, but other guests have absolutely no idea the pain I'm in sometimes. - LBChica  2529.7 #60 9:00AM
I have to use a GAC because I can't climb stairs on the ride lines due to a knee surgery. Its not a visible disability. - Polaris  35.5 #5610 9:20AM
I agree with LBChica. I use a wheelchair often in the park. I get dirty looks and feel self conscious because when I go to get onto a ride I can walk those three minutes just fine. But ask me to walk for two hours and I'll be hunched over in shooting pain. - bcarter  220.8 #1756 9:23AM
Both of my parents are disabled and I have worked in healthcare for 22 years - Believe me I'm well aware of some disabilities not being visible. However, I saw a lot of teenagers cheering and dancing in the GAC line. - DeadliestPassholder  338.9 #729 12:09PM
Deadliest I saw the teenage thing at Matterhorn, Indy and space. In fact one teenage girl I saw in a wheelchair in Indy and saw her walking around about two hours later in DCA with no wheelchair in site. She was running around and everything perfectly fine. Pirate GAC line was the longest I had ever seen it. Probably about 20-25 minute wait when regular line was probably about the same. - missmimi90  2033.3 #82 12:31AM
As a parent of a child living with high functioning autism, we have used the GAC pass for our last 2 trips. We were surprised when we went to go get the card at guest services that no one wanted to see our son's records or letter from his clinician that we had brought for verification. I too don't want to see people abuse this and have no problems bringing documentation. When our son is calm we almost always use the main line for the attraction, but when he is excited beyond normal (medium) levels we will use the GAC as a courtesy to other guests. - BombFrogFormerCM  1025.4 #190 9:21AM
Legally they can't look at any documentation because of the HIPPA laws. I agree I have no problem showing documentation when we take my step son who requires a pass because of a kidney transplant and some of the side effects of it but the last time we went his Dr. from UCSF insisted we take documentation just to be on the safe side. When we got to City Hall they refused to look at it and I asked why and they told me they couldn't ask to see it so therefore didn't want to see it. If it is a legitimate reason I see no problem in using it. I agree if the lines are short and it won't affect the person to wait a short time then absolutely we don't use it. - yellowtonka  244.7 #1447 10:38AM
The answer is to have front of the line pass like universal studios, knott has it too, even six flags. But that's a lot of money for that pass - MaxTheDoggie  235.7 #1565 9:36AM
I know the one in Universal Florida prices depend on the time of year, and which type you want. There is the one that is one park, one ride per day. Then there is the one that is both parks unlimited. - Lelundrial  687.1 #294 9:41AM
Disney offer the fast pass that is open to all guests. Guests have to pay enough to enter the parks that this is a great option. If they did the "front of line pass" they would in effect remove the fast pass option and lines would be the same. As it currently stands, the fast pass and stand by lines merge and the fast pass line is sometimes stopped momentarily to allow the standby line to move. - IDVandalSkipperCM  2531.0 #59 9:43AM
One of the top reasons as to why I don't frequent those parks. $20 for parking, $35 ticket and another $30 for a stupid front of the line pass...no way. I'll save my money for Disneyland. - Linzee  1340.2 #135 10:04AM
In the future, they will have fastpass+ which will be different than current fastpass??? - MaxTheDoggie  235.7 #1565 10:17AM
It's pretty much the same thing except you get to pick your times in advance. It's a way for guests to plan their day out better. This is related to the magic band that they are using in WDW. All your admission passes, fast passes, dinner reservations, hotel keys, etc would be on the band. - IDVandalSkipperCM  2531.0 #59 10:22AM
It is my understanding the fastpass+ is more of a reservation system for a FP return time. No charge for it at the moment. I don't like it because I feel it takes away the spontaneity of the day. - Lelundrial  687.1 #294 10:52AM
I've gotten a GAC a few times, although I only used it when I felt like I needed it. I try to avoid stairs due to knee and back problems. I feel awkward asking for one, I don't have a doctor's note or anything. The only reason I bother is because I once went with a friend who had one, and we bypassed the stairs the entire day, and I felt SO much better at the end of the day, so it's worth it. It's not just about shorter lines. - brit_brit  308.3 #898 11:07AM
Absolutely! If you need it, you should use it. And nobody should have to justify themselves to a fellow guest. - MeridaFan  4243.8 #36 11:50AM
^^^ This! - LBChica  2529.7 #60 12:15PM
Like I posted in another comment.....some will abuse it, but some aren't able to enjoy Disneyland without it - DumboGal70  122.8 #3213 11:15AM
My goddaughter had a disability and is able to enjoy Disney with the gac. I just hope because of this report they pull the gac or since it was publicized more people try to get one now. The gac is really helpful for her otherwise she would not be able to enjoy Disney like everyone else. - stevesdisneyprincess  147.7 #2792 12:24PM
Oops meant hope they DON'T pull the gac - stevesdisneyprincess  147.7 #2792 12:26PM
At CA Adventure most of their lines can accommodate wheelchairs so I always appreciate those that use them because I see no problem that if you're in a wheelchair for some reasons, you are able to wait in line like everyone else. I read on Disneys website that if you are in a wheelchair then you can wait until the rest of your party goes through the regular line and then go on the ride when they get to the front. I think that if they enforced this last rule they wouldn't have as many people take advantage. Of course there are those that have legitimate reasons and I see no reason for them to wait in line if its necessary. - dolewhipkarlita  94.6 #3726 12:35PM
But can you imagine going to Disneyland and just sitting there waiting for your family to go through the line? I tried that once, and it was miserable! More than 50% of your time at Disney is spent in lines and if you're on vacation with your family and can't spend that time with them, it's really disappointing. - bcarter  220.8 #1756 7:33AM
BTW, I'm more than happy to use a wheelchair and use the regular lines at DCA. Just referring to DL where lines won't allow you to take a wheelchair with you. - bcarter  220.8 #1756 7:34AM
I have seen people cut in line right in front of me for the Racers fast pass line. Really really irks me! - RetiredKidAgain  1214.9 #151 12:39PM
If it's because they have a GAC they were given a fastpass to return at a specific time just like any other fastpass. - LBChica  2529.7 #60 12:49PM
Talking about the line to get the fast pass, not the fast pass line for the ride. - RetiredKidAgain  1214.9 #151 12:52PM
I'm happy to see that this post sparked a good, healthy discussion about GAC abuse which offered up some great suggestions on enforcement or alternatives to handle policy. Good work, MW'ers! (^-^)/ - onezerohero  174.2 #2367 2:46PM
Pretty soon there will be a special GAC card to stand in line to get a GAC card....SMH - dangerdude  29.0 #6232 11:53PM
We wouldn't be able to enjoy Disney without our pass...when my mini was younger her disability was not as obvious...I remember in 2005 being told by a cm that we could not use the handicap entrance because we did not have a disability...that was a horrible experience in front of people thinking we were taking advantage...that following year my mini had her make a wish trip there...luckily we are fortunate to still have her around... I sympathize with those of you who have a disability that is not visible...my mini is obvious now with her wheelchair...but the nasty looks you get from people is hurtful...it lets a small group ruin it for us who really need it - formadi  63.1 #4409 11:53PM
I thought GAC stood for Get Ahead Card? - ScubaSteve028  835.5 #222 12:07AM
I already saw the report on our local news. The guy in the blue shirt has a GAC and advertised on Craigslist and when they confront him about this he's horrible. I couldn't believe his lack of morals. Sad. - Cinderella_Schnooks  3379.3 #43 1:24AM
This is such a sad story... It ruins it for people like my girls. When my 14 year old was a few years younger, she got the pass. She is basically half her life behind , but looks normal. She has sensory issues and can't stand in long lines without poking everyone and gets agitated. The pass for us was amazing and made the trip all that much easier. Made me feel great that Disney just took our word on it, although I brought paperwork with her IEP and such. Stories like this is going to ruin it for those families. - JeanaLeigh  8.3 #12743 1:45AM
Here's the link to the original story. http://youtu.be/vuD8a7wnljU - Cinderella_Schnooks  3379.3 #43 1:59AM
This is sad for those of us that look normal to those around us but have serious issues that may not be visible. I use the pass because I have had 11 knee surgeries and cannot stand for long periods of time. I did bring my handicap parking sign this last time but the looks my family gets when going into the exits of some rides is very uncomfortable. I hope a story like this doesn't ruin it for those of us who actually need it and make others assume nothing is truly wrong. πŸ˜” - Tinkerbellmom4  440.2 #510 8:19AM
If you need it, than really don't worry about what other "looks" your getting. Chances are you will never see them ever again - eviljules  1433.8 #122 8:23AM
That's what I have to tell myself Jules - that their looks don't matter. I use a wheelchair because I can't stand for more than an hour ish but am perfectly capable of walking from the chair to the ride vehicle and get nasty looks too. It can definitely be disheartening! - bcarter  220.8 #1756 8:26AM
I'm right there with you. I have had knee surgeries, foot surgeries and I have nerve damage in my arms and legs. The problem is I'm only 30, so I get very evil looks too. - justcallmeKP   274.4 #1152 8:28AM
Don't let total strangers have a negative effect on your experience . Your at the happiest place on earth, stay in the moment and enjoy yourself ! - eviljules  1433.8 #122 8:42AM
I seriously had to grab my knee reading that. - Lelundrial  687.1 #294 9:24AM
I for one would never give a look. The good outweighs the bad and for people who have a genuine need the GAC is something I support. Don't ever feel bad. I feel lucky that I can stand all day and enjoy my time with my family and friends. You are using it for a legitimate reason and I support you. - ItsADisneyLife4Me  211.2 #1890 9:38AM
I agree with everyone . I'm only thirty seven and have four kids so it is sad to see people be judgmental of anyone when they don't know the reasoning. I do hope that people use this honestly. It also doesn't mean you always get on rides faster. My family went in regular line for big thunder and got on before I did πŸ˜„ - Tinkerbellmom4  440.2 #510 11:46AM
I don't understand why people who want to cheat the system dont just come on off peak days!?! there are days in September, january, & february where the park is empty. once in september in the middle of the morning my bf and i were walking through frontierland and we were LITERALLY the only ones there. it was spooky. Abusing a courtesy given to the disabled is disgusting! - missariel33  2115.6 #75 11:59AM
@LeLundrial, when I started with the special assist/GAC pass 20 years ago (only DL then) I had to provide a medical note to verify my son's autism diagnosis. Then after 5 years they said they could not ask for proof anymore. Then there was the use a Wheel Chair go to the front, good for rental income and disney did not seem to mind. I still carry my medical note just to be safe. I do see alot of line abuse but not much I can say. - Plumiegirl  10309.8 #8 1:57PM
About 20 some years ago I went to the movies once and there was a woman there with an assistance dog. Now the dog had on a special vest that had writing on it stating it was an assistance dog. She was still require to show proof of it. Some people don't mind showing medical notes at all. Then there are some that just get up in arms about it. After my surgery last year we were supposed to go to DL while I was on leave. Looking at me no one would have been able to tell that walking or standing for long periods of time was very painful. I would have needed a wheelchair. In the end we ended up not going. I didn't want to get harassed by people, and I know my son would have gotten upset when that happened. - Lelundrial  687.1 #294 2:22PM

So from the looks of it, there is not even one app made for those of us on android. You know there are millions of people who do not own iPhones. Its kind of rediculous these days not to offer an android version of apps. Would love to help this site grow by donating, but I see no point in that when there appears to be no intrest by the app builders here to support android. I mean how about atleast a partialy functional app so we can feel that theΒ android users are even wanted as a part of the mousewait community.Β I see lots of requests and sad posts about no android, but dont see any replys by the site to the fact that anyone is even working on it.I've checked back here every so offten to see if there is anything for android users, but never bothered joining until today.I just wanted to rant a little, and now I am done.Unfortunalty, at this point I think I am officaily giving up on mousewait.Β Thanks for reading Β and understanding my frustrations ( i hope ) and please everyone........Have a Disney-tastic day!Mark - molney14u  0.0 #127127 11:05AM
I have an iPhone and an old droid. I use the old droid for wait times when my iPhone can't connect and it works fine. There's so many droid phones to have  separate apps for but I hope android makers would start using the basic same code and security but I'm probably wishing on a star for that . I miss my droid but a lot of apps don't work the same.  - secretagentangel  5720.6 #22 8:10PM

Disneyland unFORECAST (BETA) is here! Top MouseWaiters giving you the rundown of what's happening at the Disneyland Resort. The unFORECAST now has its own page on the web www.unFORECAST.com

unFORECAST for the month of April 2016
Spring Break traffic continues to make the Parks busy, however, we've made it past the heaviest part of Spring Break. Expect strong crowd levels through April 11th, and then things should slow down a bit. Look for crowds to pick up again at the end of the month and through May. Looking back at MouseWait's Historical Crowd Index (available in our MagicPlan iOS Calendar), through April 11, 2015, crowds averaged in the low 80s (approx 80% capacity), then the Crowd Index dipped into the 60s, until later in the month when the Crowd Index rose to the 70s. Remember, we've seen larger crowds ever since the 60th Celebration began, so keep that in mind when looking at historical Crowd Index data. To get a real-time look at crowd levels, check the MouseWait App for Crowd Index averages and wait times. Have a great week! - Admin Apr 4, 2016 3:24PM
