The Main Street Horseless Carriage begins operating @ Disneyland.
It was the 1st vehicle to run w/out the use of horsepower, & I mean the four-legged kind. At that time, there were three other vehicles in operation, all horse drawn…the Fire Wagon, Street Car, & Surrey. All were designed by Disney legend Bob Gurr, who was responsible for the design of most of the park’s early vehicles, including the Matterhorn Bobsleds, Casey Jr. Circus Train, & the Monorail. The shiny red Horseless Carriage was meticulously designed to look like a car built in 1903. Although the lights & some of the external parts are indeed authentic, it is equipped w/ a modern engine. They are two-cylinder, four-horsepower engines w/ manual transmission & steering. Despite the shudders & shakes they can reach an average speed of 3-5 mph. Have you been on one of these vehicles? What did you think of it?
