Disabled man Stranded on Its a Small World awarded $8,000. Article I just read on NBC. Link http://goo.gl/G0R1n

For 8,000 dollars, I'd fill in for a broken animatronic hula girl.πŸ˜‚ - BambooMike  133.8 #2982 10:40PM
I'd be there all day, wearing nothing more than a coconut bra and a grass skirt. - BambooMike  133.8 #2982 10:42PM

I'd pay to see that! πŸ˜³πŸ˜„ - adisneyfamily  1003.9 #187 7:51AM
1/2 the award was because the ride was out of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (in 2009; they're fully compliant now), the rest was pain and suffering because he experienced some medical issues while stuck. - JustCantWait  1141.5 #156 10:54PM
I think the half that was awarded for the ADA noncompliance was fair. Still trying to decide about the rest of it. - letsrckthis  161.5 #2539 11:23PM
If he incurred medical expenses as a result of them being out of compliance, then I think it's probably fair. I'm curious about how what he sued for compared to what he was actually awarded. - JustCantWait  1141.5 #156 12:21AM
I don't think *he* should get money for that. If disney is non-compliant, then they should get fined, but I don't think he deserves $4000 for that. - bluefairy  643.8 #313 1:17AM
You're right bluefairy, I didn't think about that until you mentioned it. It's really unfortunate that he had medical issues while the ride was shut down but I don't believe that is Disney's fault at all. I've had an anxiety attack in the parks before and a CM who found me did absolutely everything she could to help me, and while it was very kind and helpful of her it wasn't something that she was required to do. While this situation is a bit different, I'm sure the CM's were doing everything they could to try and get the guest off the attraction safely. - letsrckthis  161.5 #2539 4:47AM
I've been following this story for months. The " pain and suffering" and "anxiety" came into play when the disabled guest claimed his bag, containing his anti-anxiety meds couldn't be reached during the ride's stoppage. His companion and a CM offered to get it for him, but he yelled at his companion not toretrieve his bag. The CM witnessed this and testified that this occurred. No doubt he was already counting the money he hoped to be awarded from the incident. He was seeking much, much more in damages. $8000 shut him up quickly because he wasn't innocent in his claim. - susieQzee  555.8 #366 5:46AM
SusieQzee, wow that is really good to know about this case. So it seems he brought the pain and suffering upon himself by telling his companion not to get medication that could help the situation. Sounds like this was just taking advantage of an opportunity. - letsrckthis  161.5 #2539 7:28AM
Read that on an Ig post, couldn't believe it - MarshaMouse  5036.0 #25 10:42PM
I don't feel like reading it. After someone else reads it can you tell me how long he was stranded for? Thanks - philliprocks  1319.2 #132 10:44PM
30 minutes - GrimGrinningAmanda  666.9 #302 10:45PM
Someone yelled out "Andy's coming" and all the CMs fell to the ground. Tragic. - Waites4DodgerEars_CM  1002.5 #188 10:46PM
30 min - princessb5  190.9 #2104 10:46PM
That's it! Isn't the ride like 25 minutes long anyway? - philliprocks  1319.2 #132 10:50PM
disabled man who needed a wheelchair when the ride broke down. disney did not have any way to remove him from the ride. and the song never stopped playing. - Radius  502.7 #424 10:49PM
I agree with the ruling. What about you guys - Picklez  29.8 #6002 11:19PM
Let me take you back in time to Christmas Eve 2006 at Pirates in the Miagic Kingdom. People sat there in the pitch dark with ONLY the audio going. They sat there while my fellow pirates and I worked with emergency services to get them out. They sat there for an hour before we could get the sound off. They sat there for another until we could get lights on in the building to revac them. What did they get? Free dinner and a stack of fastpasses. - Nyghtngale  572.3 #355 11:30PM
Oh. I think that's worse. That'd be scary! - Picklez  29.8 #6002 11:40PM
That is worse! Especially for young children, babies and parents!! - adisneyfamily  1003.9 #187 7:54AM
yup I read that. Crazy huh. - karidaluv  67.2 #4243 11:41PM
And that's out Disney! They don't do much for guess when it comes down to that situation or in fact any situation, that's sad - latino310izzy15  4.9 #19012 12:06AM
I've actually seen Disney go above and beyond for guests (including my wheelchair-bound father) on many occasions. But I guess some people have had different experiences. - JustCantWait  1141.5 #156 12:14AM
I've had Disney go above and beyond when I've been in the parks, and felt very welcomed when I was there with my service dog. It is one of few places where we are openly and genuinely welcomed with open arms. - letsrckthis  161.5 #2539 4:53AM
No business in this world will be able to handle every situation perfectly or properly for that matter. That's what happens when you have a bunch of humans running something. Overall, Disney goes above and beyond for their guests. I have witnessed it for myself. It's unfortunate that this man went through the ordeal but they found a flaw in the system and have taken the steps to fix it. - aidensmama  340.3 #704 7:46AM
8k for having to listen to that song over and over for a half hour? He was robbed. - Westcoast  174.6 #2324 12:43AM
πŸ˜‚ - RickChavez  3671.6 #40 12:44AM
I'd frollick with the little people for 8 grand. - madsdad  1868.2 #92 7:48AM
This story bugs me. Things happen and Disney does their best to help people. I was stuck in IASW for 45 minutes one time. They didn't evacuate us because the boats were still moving but just at a verrrry sloooow pace. We came out with that song stuck in our heads for what seemed like days. I thought I would never want to go back on it but it still is one of my favorites. - mamamouse22  27.8 #6215 9:29AM
I Totally agree with you! Things happen and they do their best! - Disneymomab  34.0 #5629 11:39AM
