(Guest Assistance Cards). I want to share some information regarding Guest Assistance Cards. Disneyland is not only required to comply with ADA standards but also strongly desires to make the park inviting, accessible and enjoyable for “all guest of all ages from everywhere”. This is a monumental task of course but one that we are up too. The challenge is to give all our guest the best experience while not infringing on their privacy or dignity. There is no doubt that the system gets abused. I am sure I allow guest through the GAC access that do not belong there however, that is a small price to pay for making the park accessible for those that truly need some additional assistance. Also, the number on the card is for the maximum guest in the party. It is NOT a license to find people in the park and make magic of your own. This only adds to the abuse and slows down the stand by line for the rest of our guest. It is also not appropriate to allow members of the party to use the card while the guest needing the assistance stays behind. The GAC card is not meant to reduce the wait time for the guest in most cases (there are some exceptions E.I. green light cards) but are meant to make the attraction accessible. Most attractions are being converted where possible to queues and ride vehicles that are accessible by all therefore eliminating the need for alternate entrances. Please do not judge those using the GACs that do not have any apparent reason for using the card. But please me mindful when using the card of the reasons it was given. I am writing this as a ride operator that deals with GACs daily, an attractions trainer responsible for teaching other CMs about GACs, a working lead and an orientations facilitator that teachers new CMs about GACs. (My intension is not to start a debate but just to clarify)

Thank you Randy! I hope others take the time to read this and realize that as CMs we are following the rules as trained and as specific to our attraction(s). We do not intend to make things more difficult for our guests! Sometimes that's just how it ends up. I try to be courteous by informing guests where to go and what their line looks like up ahead. Educate and accommodate! - IDVandalSkipperCM  2278.7 #53 2:58PM
Thank you! I most recently read a post where a guest was ridiculed by people waiting in line because they had a GAC and bypassed the line. First, people shouldn't judge. Just because you can't see a reason for their GAC doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I have DJD and some days I feel like I can walk up the steepest street in San Francisco...other days I can barely walk to the restroom. I have been quite humbled by my condition, and have learned that you can't judge a persons ability or disability by looking at them. The last time we were in the park we saw an older man with a pomeranian service dog. My kids didn't understand how a little POM could help someone. Some people have anxiety and their companions help them remain calm. Disneyland is a magical place that so many people love.... It takes a great amount of patience and respect to wait your turn regardless of where your turn in line starts...*stepping down from soap box ☺ - 2BeignetOrNot2Beignet  1019.4 #157 3:16PM
I believe this is well written and professionally handled in the best Disney spirit and intent. No further explanation should be needed here about the use and purpose of Guest Assistance Cards (specific questions regarding individual assistance needs should be asked at City Hall Guest Services). Thank you as always CMBaloo! - IMissDisney  1205.3 #120 4:16PM
I stopped posting the extra seats on our pass, even though the handicap person was always present, just had concerns about this priviledge so I no longer post it. I only use the extra seats for immediate family if they are in the park with me now. - Plumiegirl  8344.9 #3 4:50PM
I think if you have guests join u & ur son-that's a beautiful thing too; it's great way 4 some people w/special needs to open up & socialize when they might not feel comfortable in other circumstances. Do what your heart says...responsible people are reasonable 💗 - TinkerSchelle  1259.3 #110 12:39AM
Thank you for your knowledge and helping us that need the assistance. I would love to be able to walk in the regular line. I miss it. I miss the interaction with people in line. Keep up the great work CMBaloo. - azdan9299  232.7 #1467 2:55PM
I read this post earlier and have sat here debating wether to comment on it or not. I am a mouse waiter in a wheelchair now, but also have visited the parks as an able bodied person. Now I can not stay in lines very long because of medical reasons (which I do not wish to share personal details by saying why), I am upset that people abuse the system by claiming a need for a GAC. Because of these fakers who have no soul to be able to take advantage of the system, us TRULY in need of it are now being questioned by other guests and a CM in my case. I just hope that people don't judge the people in this line because some don't look it but just know that the fakers will get their cumupits later in life. As for now all their doing is making the GAC lines longer than they should be and ruining it for us who are truly in need! - PrincessDaisy  307.6 #783 4:01PM
Thank you! I just emailed Admin about this as sometimes they are on here so much, I am concerned we will teach someone so much about them they will be abused more and for someone who uses one when needed, they are needed. BUT! Those of us who want to use them responsibly only use them when we cannot get to the fastpass line, or only a couple of times a visit, and only for those in our party. And believe me, there are times I have had to use it and the line is so much longer than the regular one but either my brother is having a bad day with his mental disabilities or I am having a bad pain day so we have to use it. You have to use common sense on this issue plus you have to be considerate for the others in the park. This is not a get out of line free card. And those who have to use, whether you are on two legs, or two wheels or crutches, you should just take those of you with you and please don't show it here on MW IMO. Maybe most reading this are honest people but for the people who do take advantage, that leads to so many people getting angry when anyone does use it. I have skipped going on attractions a lot when I see how nasty some people have been to others using them. I was in the regular line which was short on AP nights at the WOD, and three different large parties went in front and the catcalls were horrible, and yes, I did tell them the meanies they did not know who was disabled or not since many disabilities are invisible. But the abusers are causing much of the hate. I honestly hope they do go to long term wristbands because the pass will be recorded in your wristband and I am hoping this will lead to more oversight. If you see someone goofing around and really feel they are abusing (like another post had said someone not really needing the wheelchair and others taking turns with it) then quietly tell a CM and if there is anything the CM can do, they will do it. And thank you to the CM's who are so decent to me about the pass, I think they either know me and my illnesses, or they can tell my brother needs a little help. Thanks for this post, I hope my reply and or your post don't get deleted!:) - secretagentangel  1326.3 #105 4:08PM
Sorry, did not realize this was so long but I have been thinking about this all week.:) - secretagentangel  1326.3 #105 4:10PM
@secretagentangel You do not have a DM set up. I figured with high season and Premium AP, Most MWrs are not in the parks when I am. 2nd, it is a priviledge that I dont want to abuse since my son needs it most. 3. I'd rather just enjoy my son and the rides quietly. I am very thankful for this because regular folks get unnerved with autism as much as autism has alot of anxiety on its own which causes the behaviors. Jimmy loves going to the parks and this is the only way he can do it. SoCal is soo crowded compared to when we started 20 years ago with an AP and one park. - Plumiegirl  8344.9 #3 8:35PM
I stopped posting 2 weeks ago so my decision had nothing to do with this post, just a change of heart and alot of mulling over the reasons we have it. - Plumiegirl  8344.9 #3 8:37PM
I will figure out what is going on with the dm, hopefully a fluke. I am glad jimmy has you, and frankly watching you and others deal with disabled family members gives me strength when I am ready to scream when my brother has done something he should not have for the 10th time and says he forgot!! You all remind me to see the good and to remember how hard it is for them, just as it is for my brother, to be in such huge crowds. I am just concerned more on the abuses of it and any help we can be to Disney with them I try because it really does help us on my or his bad days. You really are a blessed person to love him, your patience and love for Jimmy remind me of my mom's love for my brother and I am trying very hard to be as patient as she was. Love ya Plumie!!:) - secretagentangel  1326.3 #105 8:52PM
I servicesee guests all the time and I never say anything but think about why this person needs one. I keep my comments to myself - Chumash28  1080.0 #143 5:13PM
My first experience with a GAC card was last year. My daughter is 19 and has MS and although she is not in a wheelchair, she sometimes cannot stand or sit for long periods of time . We went to City Hall to get the pass and expected to be questioned which we should be. I did feel that the CM seemed skeptical of what we were telling her and we did bring documents if we needed them but she did issue us the pass. I understand what people are saying about people looking at you when you are using the card and do not have a reason they are able to see. My daughter did not even want to initially use the GAC but she would not have been able to spend hours in the park without it. She did feel self conscience about people looking at her and obviously she would prefer to wait in the lines she was always able to before. I thank all of you who are knowledgeable about the GAC card and realize that there are people our there with "invisible illnesses". - sstarlight  324.7 #697 6:03PM

Thanks Randy. People who are abusing the system make the system hurt for everyone else. - MeridasHair  346.5 #617 8:40PM
My mom has a GAC and we only use it when she really needs it, when there are stairs or if she is in a lot of pain and she makes an effort to stand in line when she can. We constantly get people telling us to get back into the regular line (probably because I am so peppy when I am in the parks, but I am young) and it upsets me because they dont stop to think about what might really be going on! Hope that people stop abusing the system :( Thanks for a great post! - tiggertwin  330.2 #672 9:12PM
Thank you for this! I know there have been times when guests in the regular lines look at me funny for using my GAC (it's not always outwardly apparent why I need it). There is totally a difference between those who use it the way it is intended and those who don't. I just wish people would understand that just because it doesn't "look" like I need it, doesn't mean I'm abusing the system. I appreciate this post! - ekwhite  471.3 #397 2:30AM
This is a wonderful post Randy. I just wanted to say that for those of us that try not to use it unless necessary, please be careful in trying to push yourself to got through the stand by line. I recently tried that and literally had to get out of line as quickly as possible. The CM's were great and realized I had a GAC and when I was ready, got me to the other entrance. So, just a friendly reminder to listen to maybe someone in your party that knows your situation and can maybe make a better decision for you like my hubby does for with me. I'm stubborn! LOL - MrsSchnooks  2927.2 #38 2:29PM
This is really wonderful insight. Thank you! - CherryMouse  44.2 #4621 8:40AM
Hello, I was in the Army and I have PTSD. I know there are two stamps, a wheelchair and two arrows. Ive been to City Hall asking them if I can get a GAC. They keep trying to give me a pass with the wheelchair stamp. I have no use or need for that particular stamp as I do not need a wheelchair or want one. Can anyone help me out, I'm going there tomorrow. - drewhitman69  0.0 #102289 5:43PM
