Mar 24, 2013 12:37 AM  Disneyland Talk Land
Question: was today (Saturday) the first day enforced of the new rule that 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult? If so, how did it go? Any observations or thoughts?

I think disney's motivation here is merely safety and liability, not the behavior of the kids. If good behavior was a prerequisite for getting in, many adults would get turned away at the gate. - bluefairy  643.3 #274 10:28AM
πŸ‘† THIS!! - Gia  802.0 #202 10:32AM
As Middle School teacher most teenagers are not bad or awful. Also, I support the 14 year old age cutoff. I have an ocean of 12-13 year olds a day and most just want respect and politeness. - MeridasHair  346.5 #622 7:58AM
I agree completely. I work at a high school, and I have a teenage son myself. I've actually been shocked by all the negative comments since this rule was announced. Sure, there will always be those that are immature or irresponsible at ANY age, but it's sad to see all teenagers getting such a bad rap. - SneakyStella  321.9 #718 8:12AM
I agree. Some of the nicest, most respectful people I know are my daughter and her 13-15 year old friends. I think this is more from a security standpoint. I can't imagine just having my child wandering the parks alone. But I do send them together to go on certain rides that daddy and I are too chicken, er, too mature to go on! California Screamin', ToT, Splash Mountain, to name a few! πŸ˜‚ And I think politeness really knows no age! - MeridaFan  3507.2 #32 9:31AM
I like the idea of the rule, the way it is. However, I see a lot of you posting negativly to teenagers all together. I am 16, so I may not be the best person to comment, but I would be in some serious trouble if they changed it to 17. I like to drive down to so cal and go to Disneyland with my friends, and we have never caused any trouble. I also plan on going to college down there, but ill be 17 when I start college. It would extreamly awkward and a tad humiliating if I couldnt go to Disneyland with some friends on the weekend because im under 18. Im terribly sorry that some of you have had negitive encounters with teenagers, but please keep in mind that I have had some negative encounters with adults in the park, and I have nothing against adults. Dont let a few bad aples ruin your view of the bunch - PrincessSierra  7.4 #12083 9:32AM
Not every teen is bad and not ever adult is good. You sound like a very well rounded person and that's amazing for someone your age. Keep up the good work. I don't see it changing to anything over 16. At 16 you have some independence. - KissDclown  1089.3 #145 9:48AM
You can drive by yourself at 16, so I'm sure that will not become an issue. πŸ˜‰ - bluefairy  643.3 #274 10:24AM
However, a 16 year old can not transport other teens without an adult over 20 in the car. - aidensmama  340.1 #641 5:13PM
I know plenty of responsible teens, but I support the rule. I think it's a good reminder that responsible or not they are still kids and Disneyland though magical is still the real world and therefore has dangers and not great people in it. I do hope they ease up on needing an adult to ride. - Pixarprincess  540.8 #342 10:21AM
This post although informative & controversial might be better of in the Hub. Far to many of us simply post to the Lounge or Disney Real Time. The new rule deals with guests under the age of 14 must be accompanied with someone over the age of 14. This isn't new, if you check one of your park map/guide it states this. I'm looking at one from November 2012 says "Supervise your children at all times. Children under 7 years of age must be accompanied by a person 14 years of age or older". Also you must be 7 years of age to ride attraction alone, if under 7 you must be accompanied by a 14 year old or over. As a former CM this is a safety issue and you have no idea how many parents drop off their kids alone at Disneyland. And they are only asking those that look under 14 years of age. - splashphotoCM  885.6 #179 12:50PM
So if I'm 14, I am the chaperone of the 13 year old. Yes? :D - Alicewhoareyou  1503.0 #93 5:21PM
They should have made it 17 years old cause teenagers that age seem to also act bad - alphathedog4  145.6 #2677 1:13AM
Teenagers tend to act bad no matter what the age. - KermitFan13  647.1 #271 4:24AM
^yup. Teenagers can be very annoying and immature but it's a normal cognitive phase if development. I was worse at 17 than I was at 14. At 14 I was still innocent and sweet but at 17 I was up to no good and believed I was an adult by that time. - aidensmama  340.1 #641 8:17AM
My dad used to drop us off when my brother, sister, and me were 13,14,&15. We all behaved. Parents know what kind of kids they have. - nicealex77  631.3 #286 1:25AM
Are we all forgetting that Disneyland is a place for "children of all ages?" I mean, I understand the security point of view, but are all of the comments about how teenagers are all bad necessary? I've had my pass since I was 14, and I am now 16. In my opinion, Disneyland is a much safer place to be at that age than some of the other places teenagers go. There are adults all over, so they are never REALLY unsupervised. Anyways, my point is, there are more to us teenagers than always looking to do the bad things. Especially when we're at Disneyland. Disneyland has that magic of bringing out the good in everyone. Age is just a number, and I'm sure Walt would agree. - fortheloveofdisney  25.5 #5859 9:48AM
Very well stated! And I agree with you...sometimes there are 15 yr olds who are more mature than 40 yr olds! I too think the age limit on entry is good, but I doubt it's just because of kids raising heck...more like a safety issue: injury or accident. - Gia  802.0 #202 10:01AM
I think it should be 16... - missariel33  1887.4 #73 5:28PM
I was the kid that brought the clothes my mom wouldn't let me where in a backpack and changed (& that was far from the worst thing i did)... As an adult I see similar behavior in some-not all-teens and disneys gotta do wat they gotta do to protect the kids-some of them from themselves. - missariel33  1887.4 #73 5:33PM
I believe it started Saturday, the 23rd. I think it's a good idea. I go to the parks often& notice that the kids that are around that age are very disrespectful sometimes. I don't think that the CM should feel as though they have to babysit. Not all are that way, but some are. - Superspacemountainfan  82.8 #3701 12:44AM
I totally agree. We once had a teenager think it would be funny to stick his leg out on purpose in front of our stroller with our daughter who was two at the time. No parents around! Needless to say the marine came out of my husband and he lectured that child and began to tell him what an idiot he was. So I think this is a great idea - Queenof2princesses  259.6 #1173 6:31AM
Haha @queen. A few years back some kid spiked my sons balloon (who ways 1at the time) and it hit my son in the face. I yelled "get back" made him stand in front of me and told him to apologies to my son. People clapped.....lol - Jfigg23  257.8 #1190 7:11AM
@ jfigg23, I'm glad you did it! Is it awful that I thought it was awesome my husband embarrassed him in front of all his friends?! Needless to say we also got an apology - Queenof2princesses  259.6 #1173 9:40AM
Agree with alphathedog4! They should make it 17 and under..... Sa many teenagers now a days behave just as bad or worse than 13 yr olds and very disrespectful. - DarthMickey  64.1 #4065 1:55AM
Considering how many obnoxious high schoolers I've encountered during grad night, I vote it should be 17 as well! - GrimGrinningAmanda  660.1 #260 6:55AM
Of course, the funny thing about grad night is that many of those kids are actually 18. - MeridaFan  3507.2 #32 4:21PM
Idk about this rule. When i was young, we would go our seperate ways and meet back at a set time&place. A fun & safe way to practice responsibility, self control and independance in a safe & child friendly environment. Does this new rule mean that Disneyland is rated pg-13 now? - joxua  87.8 #3608 7:42AM
As a parent of 14 and 15 year old I see no issue with this rule. I wouldn't let kids run free around the park. We are there for family time. Of course we are 5 hours away so dropping them off not an option - ibmickeyfan  30.8 #5375 7:51AM
I never knew this was going on. I was never allowed anywhere by myself at that age. - Cinderellaaa  164.9 #2398 9:08AM
What's this new rule? Kids can't go in by themselves? Or kids can't go around the park solo? I have an 11yr old that I let ride things solo all the time (even yesterday)- because I have a 1 yr old as well who obviously can't go on splash mtn or TOT, etc. I totally agree with not going in alone - but spitting up from (responsible) kids is fine by me. My son has been goin to DL with me since 6 mos old and knows that place better than our own neighborhood! - minnieteacher  69.8 #3936 9:14AM
They must be 14 years of age to enter a park by themselves. If they are not 14 years of age, they must be accompanied by someone 14 or older. Lots of comments on this topic already if you'd like to do a search for it! - IDVandalSkipperCM  2308.7 #52 9:18AM
I believe it had started during the week. I heard it announced on the news as the first day. It started just in time for spring break. It was pretty packed yesterday so it would be hard to judge. I think this new rule will be better judged during the week - KissDclown  1089.3 #145 9:24AM
I am not sure but they may have made it 14 because some of the laws in CA change when a person becomes that age. I teach high school and have some 14 year olds who have the maturity level of 1st graders and some that act like adults. - sr citizen space ranger  59.4 #4180 9:46AM
I'm not disagree with the age limit now. I just disagree with the views of teenagers being annoying and immature and bad. - fortheloveofdisney  25.5 #5859 9:50AM
When I was in line for Jumpin Jellyfish, a bunch of 7 and 8 year olds ran in behind me and the CM asked their age and told them someone 14 or older needs to be with them. I heard it a few times a few days ago. - LuvsTigger  1127.9 #137 10:23AM
I am so confused..what is the difference between 'the hub' and 'the lounge'? - MrsMears  217.1 #1681 5:16PM
The lounge is the whole. The hub is a section of the lounge - KissDclown  1089.3 #145 5:39PM
Yes started yesterday - foundpluto1  1521.4 #91 5:25PM
