#Tip: I've seen several posts about starting a pressed penny collection, and I thought I would offer a little friendly advice since I have some photo examples. First, choose only pre-1982 pennies. These are made of copper and when pressed, will not have other "silver" metals show through. The examples below are my own. The ones on the left were gathered at WDW last week, made from "good" pennies. The Wreck it Ralph example on the right was made on the fly with a new penny. As you can see, it's already looking pretty sad. I hear a lot of people say they use new pennies because they are shiny, don't do it. To get the old pennies shiny, I simply squirt them with ketchup, let it sit for maybe 10 minutes, then scrub with a toothbrush. Rinse them off and then buff with a paste of baking soda and water. It takes a few minutes of elbow grease, but don't they look nice?! Stop in at City Hall for a list of machines/pennies and consider buying a penny folder for storing your goodies, runs about $7.
