Good afternoon! This day in Disney history, March 15th, 1991. Disney Afternoon Avenue, a colorful street of cartoon buildings located between It's a Small World & Videopolis, opens @ Disneyland. Here, you can have your map/passport stamped @ places such as Scroogeβs vault & Duckburg City Hall. What else?
Visit Baloo, the star of TaleSpin in his own dressing room.
Take the Motor Boat Cruise to Gummi Glen to learn how Gummi Berry juice is made.
Take a spin on the Rescue Rangers Raceway (Fantasyland Autopia).
Enjoy themed refreshments, such as frozen Gummi Berry Juice bars. Do you remember this? What did you think of it?
Everyone who was kid during that era knows the chorus to that theme song! Lol - NotNKansasAnymor 177.3 #1902 4:51PM

So to answer your questions (LOL), I miss stuff like this. As a kid, this was so much fun. Yes, the attractions are amazing, but this gave us non-so-thrill-ride-please-don't-make-me-ride-that-again-i'm-going-to-cry kids a fabulous alternative to interact with the characters we watched every afternoon. - EpicDio 381.7 #355 2:56PM
I don't remember one shred of this. I may have been a bit too young to remember that. - NotNKansasAnymor

I wonder if your bf could do an article on this - Villescas8(V8) 589.1 #186 3:03PM
Generally they don't do articles on old attractions. Disney prefers it if the papers only report on what's new and exciting, so we hopeless addicts will see a reason to spend more money. - NotNKansasAnymor 177.3 #1902 4:42PM
Ha! They sure are good at that! All my extra money goes to Disney! π - Duchess_SMK 3291.4 #11 6:03PM
Yeah this is way before I started to visit the parks. Thanks for the history :) - RickChavez

I don't remember this at all. Do you know how long it lasted? I was there in 1990 and I don't think I was there again until 2000. Wow. That must have been my biggest break where I did not go to DL. - meridafan

Thank you SneakyStella! π Sorry you missed out on this MeridaFan! Glad you are a regular attendee again! π - Duchess_SMK 3291.4 #11 6:06PM
I remember the rethemed rides, they were basically big plywood cutouts of characters placed along the route and I think they piped in music from the cartoons. I vaguely remember the gummi berry juice too... - bluefairy

Oh really?! Shoot! Bet they were better quality then the one I found on yesterland too. π Course, that's not saying much....have a nice weekend buddy! - Duchess_SMK 3291.4 #11 6:37PM
I have only vague memories of this, as I was not living in CA at the time. It looks like it was a fun attraction. I only recall the Ducktails cartoon series, but I did not watch many. This was a period of time for me when I did not have a lot of Disney π. Thank you again SMK for another great history post and reminding us of these fun events! - MyPark

I loved Disney Afternoon and had all the theme songs memorized. I also have a bunch of characters from cereal boxes that I have saved and given my kids now. I don't think I went to DL those years so I don't remember seeing that. Thanks for the flashback!... I think I even had the Duck Tales GameBoy game :) - brigeet
