Good morning! This day in Disney history, March 3rd, 1995. The Indiana Jones Adventure, Temple of the Forbidden Eye attraction officially opens in Disneyland's Adventureland. (Official attraction poster shown below). In attendance for the attraction's debut is filmmaker George Lucas, Michael Eisner (who ironically was the president of Paramount Pictures that green-lighted Raiders of the Lost Ark back in 1980), & actors Dan Ayckroyd & Carrie Fisher. Several early concepts were considered including a walk-through adventure & a high-speed mine car adventure within a temple. To avoid a long queue, Imagineers considered using Jungle Cruise launches to shuttle guests to the loading area. The team tested key show elements in a Burbank warehouse on a full-sized elevated track that resembled a freeway. This enabled the team to test set pieces, lighting, effects, transport clearances and motion profiles. Groundbreaking for the Temple of the Forbidden Eye occurred in August 1993. More than 400 Imagineers worked on its design & construction. Tony Baxter led a core project team of nearly 100 Imagineers. To create space for the 0.5-mile queue area & the 50,000-square-foot show building, an area of the former "Eeyore" parking lot was demolished, & the Monorail & Jungle Cruise attractions were rerouted. Happy birthday Indy! Have you been on this attraction? What's your favorite part?

I got to ride this a week before the official opening at an overnight event (didn't know about soft openings or previews then so we thought we were pretty special). I was one of the first in line that night and we were escorted down Main St to the queue. My group rode the ride and loved it. As we were coming back to the loading area someone wasn't paying attention and my Jeep bumped the Jeep that had just finished loading (no joke). Smoke came out of the front of the Jeep I was in. They moved the Jeep out of the way, pulled the one I was in to the loading area and we got out. The ride was down for a bit after that. I remember people were so upset! Quite a memory to have. I can also remember waiting for hours during the summer for that ride and the line started on Main St. At least there was entertainment in the queue once you got into the temple. - LilSterner  2655.9 #17 11:44AM
Lucky YOU! Ha! Wow! You'll never forget that one! You broke Indy! Lol - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 12:20PM
Nope. I can still see the smoke coming out of the hood and I can vaguely remember thinking "we're going to hit that Jeep" ๐Ÿ˜‚ - LilSterner  2655.9 #17 4:45PM
What a great adventure!!! Lucky you!!!!! - Boundin  423.6 #298 11:56PM
Hello , this is one of my favorite rides and yes it does have on of the longest queue lines ever for a Disney attraction. Indy is the only modern attraction that had a line snake all the was to main street other than the original star tours 1.0 this was before fasspasses existed and the wait time would be close to 6-10 hrs. This is a great ride but understand that with a lot of show elements this ride does go down a bit, remember it has a ton of stuff going on but they do a great job restarting it so please understand fellow mwr's. The vehicles are state of the art and a first for disney and the amusement park at the time it came out and the vehicle type is also used in dinosaur at wdw. The rolling ball has an incredible secrect ,but im not ruining it by saying what it is you can find this info on your own and hidden in the line is eyeore sign that everyone knows about and a time life magazine after the safety video room in the caged office and its highlighted with a magnifying glass is a vintage mickey mouse - pikarich  575.8 #190 9:01AM

You can look up how they do the ball scene on YouTube if you want to know how it works. It's quite ingenious! Crazy how much your mind can play tricks on you. :) - Belleslibrary  227.7 #1274 10:24PM
Everybody interested in Indiana Jones that's local or just passing through should check out the discovery science center off the 5 freeway..they have a super fun Indiana Jones exhibit with props, costumes, history, it's super fun for all ages - LittlebigredApril  239.1 #1118 11:05AM

They really did an amazing job on the queue! It's so entertaining! - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 12:52PM
This is one of the coolest attractions in the park. I heard about the incredibly long lines when it was first opened, but I didn't get to go on for 3 years after its opening. So cool that Lucas showed up! I love the FIRE!! What can I say... Thank you SMK! I love learning all these things about the park and Disney History! You're awesome! - MyPark  943.6 #91 9:11AM
there you are ,added to the list - pikarich  575.8 #190 9:15AM

I personally like the dart part! But yes! The fire is very cool! Thanks MyPark! - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 12:53PM
We went the first year it opened. I was so excited. The line was VERY long. I remember a group of people tried to cut in front of us as we rounded a corner. I told a CM who removed the group from line. Funny the things you remember. - RadiatorSprings4Ever  135.0 #2515 9:44AM
Ha! Don't mess with radiatorSprings4Ever! ๐Ÿ‘ฎ I love it! Good for you! - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 12:55PM
We actually waited in line for 6 hours to ride it!! ๐Ÿ˜ That was CRAZY!! ๐Ÿ˜„ - CAdreamer  94.8 #3089 9:52AM
Oh wow! I think I would have needed a potty break! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ You are quite the soldier! - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 1:04PM
I remember going when it first opened...my dad and I went on it while my mom sat with my daughter since she wasn't tall enough! Her first time was so memorable! She clutched me the whole time, eyes and mouth open in fear....but as soon as we got off she wanted to go again! Luckily, with my dad we never waited in line. He had a GAC (or as he called it, his "VIP Pass"!). - Gia  782.1 #118 9:53AM
I just love hearing the first time on attraction stories! Thank you for sharing that with us! I can't wait till my littlest can go on the "big kid" ones! - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 10:37PM
I was almost 13 when it opened and I remember waiting 3 hours (it broke down while we were in line and that added another 30 minutes) to ride it. I thought it was cool but I was like "Did we really waste a whole morning waiting for that?" LOL. I remember the line started in front of the Golden Horseshoe! - LaneSparrow316  846.9 #106 9:56AM
Holy COW! That's dedication! Can't say I'd wait in a line that long! Lol - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 11:35AM
I have only been once! That was last summer. Don't remember enough to have a favorite part. Thanks for the great info! - meridafan  1031.9 #84 9:59AM
๐Ÿ˜ณ Once?! Why? We need to change this! Lol next weekend perhaps?! - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 10:37PM
How cool I remember when that first open - brguest85  15.1 #5645 10:09AM
^clever user name! :) - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 10:38PM
When the Indy attraction opened at Disney they offered ppl who owned business establishment a special night to experience the ride. They closed DL early that day and those who had the special invitation got to enjoy the park with less ppl and experience the ride before it was open to the public. It was an awesome night๐Ÿ˜Š - soleillit  4.4 #11983 10:10AM
How neat is that?! I take it you were one of them? - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 11:34AM
I just saw this now and I could've told guests this while I was in the Indy store this afternoon! Love the attraction and the storytelling behind it (its wayyyy better than WDW's Dinosaur too) - BaseballMickey_CM  2785.5 #16 10:24PM
Awwwwwwwww! What a bummer! Oh well, there's always next year buddy. :) I agree! What?! You don't like the dinosaur? ๐Ÿ˜„ - Duchess_SMK  3243.8 #11 10:34PM
The story in Dinosaur gets lost, but with Indy, it feels like you're in the film - BaseballMickey_CM  2785.5 #16 10:39PM
