A "what would you do?" question. We are driving down from Central Cali on Thursday October 10th and staying at a motel about an hour away from the DL area. We check into the DLH on the morning of the 11th (our first time). We are going to the Halloween party (if things run like last year) on the 11th. We check out on Tuesday the 15th. Would you a) play at the hotel on check in day and do the party that night and get a 3 day park hopper for the 12th, 13th, and 14th. b) get a four day park hopper and play at the parks on the 11th before the party. or c) Party only on the 11th, but get a four day hopper to play in the parks on the 15th if travel permits?

d) get an annual pass - DarkwingHuck  242.8 #1077 10:23AM
What they said 👆 - Waites4DodgerEars  659.2 #158 10:27AM
An annual pass will also get you a discount for MHP - Philliprocks  276.6 #762 11:50AM
Don't use your full day ticket for only going for part of a day. Spend time in the hotel or down town disney the first day. - rachelelizabeth  146.6 #2337 10:46AM
I would do this. - Lelundrial  341.2 #429 11:35AM
If youre an hour north, try el capital and soda fountain, or Griffith park (the carousel that inspired disneyland is up there, as well as the observatory, zoo, train museum, and I think walt's barn?). An hour south, maybe the beach? - bluefairy  627.1 #174 4:53PM

^^ Instead of darting down to the parks in the 101/5 Friday morning traffic, spend some time in Hollywood and leave around noon to check in to DLH and get ready for the party. Trust me... traffic is a beast going south in the morning. - KylaShea  533.2 #214 4:57PM
I agree with DarkwingHuck, get an AP! It will cost less than the 4 day hopper and you can play in the parks for all 5 days and get 10-20% off of most of your food and souvenir purchases. It is more cost effective. - DizneyGurlll  186.0 #1797 10:26AM
A 4 day hopper is $275, an AP is $469, that's a huge difference - Linzee  517.2 #225 10:30AM
Linzee is right in this case, plus the blockout ticket needed for the 12th (Saturday). I initially though an AP would be the best option too because the discounts add up, but on one three/four day trip it probably wouldn't. My suggestion was to get one adult an AP for the discount on the room/food/merch. But you'd have to save over $250 to make it worth it. - Lola027  444.9 #277 1:51PM
They all sound good, depends on the budget really! They all sound fun, also depends on when you get in on the first day. - ShariRenee  1505.7 #51 10:28AM
I'm thinking we'll get to the hotel by 11am - GoofyMom77  108.8 #2922 10:34AM
The park will be getting really crowded by then and if you can't get early check in you will need to leave your bags at hotel (I do that all the time). Maybe enjoy the new pool area at the hotel and DTD. Ask for a room facing the park to see fireworks from room if they have available. - ShariRenee  1505.7 #51 10:44AM
we splurged for an upper level park view room, I'm so looking foward to room service mickey waffels!! and fireworks from our hotel room! - GoofyMom77  108.8 #2922 11:45AM
Definitely just play at DTD and hotel the first day then. You will love it! - ShariRenee  1505.7 #51 11:46AM
A. I'd want to hang at the hotel and build up excitement for that night and the following days. - Linzee  517.2 #225 10:32AM
I agree with Linzee. That way you save a little money on tickets and spend it on something you don't normally do in the parks! - SBsnowwhite  252.0 #994 10:53AM
A Delux AP is $469 a four day hopper is $275. I'm not a SoCal resident so cannot get the SoCal APs - GoofyMom77  108.8 #2922 10:33AM
Don't forget about monthly payments! You can apply the price of the park hoppers to your AP and pay the rest in monthly payments. - JessicaRabbit33  667.9 #156 10:42AM
If you get an AP be prepared to slap down $85.00 per ap plus $37.42 in 24-48 hours for first payment. That does not include parking, $129.00 additional for parking - splashphotoCM  880.9 #101 11:00AM
I would stay at the hotel during the day, check out the pool, eat at one of the great restaurants, and get ready for the party! This past year they let party goers in a few hours before the party actually started. - CinderellasMommy21  229.4 #1248 11:08AM
Enjoy the hotel. If you are paying so much for the stay, enjoy the atmosphere. We stayed at the Grand and never took advantage of the pool. Now I just watch from behind the gate. - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  278.6 #744 11:34AM
^^this :) take advantage of the pool amenities - we've never gone to a pool on the WDW trips and looking back I wish we had. Enjoy the first day out of the park until the party :) - Lola027  444.9 #277 1:53PM
Your last sentence made me so sad AED! One day you'll be back :) - KylaShea  533.2 #214 4:59PM
Last year the Halloween parties went from aBout 4-12. I would NOT get a ticket for that day instead play at the hotel and/or DTD. (Your an early planner!) - NikkiMickey  1583.8 #49 11:44AM
yes i am :) I'm planning where to eat, too. So far we're doing BTRBBQ and Carnation Cafe. On the fence about Carthay Circle and Goofy's Kitchen. Was kinda thinking do GK on check out day as a "last harrah" - GoofyMom77  108.8 #2922 11:49AM
We like doing Goofy's Kitchen on last day. You could even book it for the day you arrive, if you don't plan to go into the parks that day. - meridafan  1036.1 #83 12:05PM
We usually do a fun breakfast on our last day too :) it is a great way to still have Disney magic on a day you aren't going into the parks - send you home with a smile on your face. Oh - and BTRBBQ is a great choice! if you're dessert people get the s'more brownie thing - it is amazing (I have a previous post about it). We are planners too ;) - Lola027  444.9 #277 1:56PM
Carthay Circle is beyond OUTSTANDING! Definitely eat there, you won't be disappointed. - JediDug  285.0 #703 5:10PM
Option a seems to make the most sense to me. My girlfriend and I went to Disneyland before the party last year and we were pretty beat halfway through the party and the next day - spaceranger916  337.8 #442 12:54PM
definitely something to consider with little ones :) - Lola027  444.9 #277 1:44PM
Personally I'd do option a. I am the type of person who needs her rest and that would allow for that yet still give me the great time I'm looking for. - aidensmama  336.5 #445 5:16PM
