Yesterday I faced one of my biggest fears. Something most people don't know is that I really am scared of balloons. It's not a joke when I say it, I really was traumatized by balloons when I was little, and I do get really anxious when I'm near them, and often have flashbacks and start to cry when they're close or a lot are around me. So at Disneyland, I faced my fears, and I went up and held the balloon bouquet and took a picture :) quickly handed them back, but I did it, guys! I was super nervous and shakey, but I'm one step closer to being okay!(: maybe one day I'll be able to have one and carry it around a while hehe we'll try that in a couple of years ;)

That's very wonderful to hear! I can't relate to that phobia but I know every fear has a deeper layer and once you realize why it scares you and understand there really is no fear, is a wonderful feeling! Congrats! May you conquer any other fear you have - MarshaMouse

Yea, it's never fun having to run out of your science class crying because a girl got balloons for her birthday. But yes, it was an amazing trip! The great day gave me that force of braveness to do this! - AvidDisneyThrifter220 851.4 #107 11:40PM

Omg!!! No joke I have this same fear! Everyone laughs at me because I flip out if a balloon gets too close especially a non mylar balloon! Luckily for me though my 4 year old is slowly getting me out of my fear, she LOVES balloons. took 4 years but I can now tie a balloon (if I'm the absolute last person around and have no choice) for her! Still can't blow one up but hey its taken a long time and a kid to get me this far lol you'll be great in no time! - pintsize

Ok now I don't feel so silly, you see like you I have a unique phobia. I don't do elevators! I was stuck in one when I was little and to this day I refuse to get into one (I'll walk 20 flights of stairs). My phobia has caused me to miss out on one of Disney's signature rides, The Haunted Mansion. I get so close to mustering up the strength but then the fear of getting stuck in that over crowded stretching room elevator gets the best of me and I always opt to sit out. TOT is out of the question too :/
Your story has inspired me to take bigger steps towards facing my lifetime fear. One day I hope to post a picture like yours with the balloons but with me coming off of HM! Thanks for sharing your story, you have a lo t of courage :) - MaterMouse

I am so proud of you! This is HUGE! This is actually a very common fear for many. As a supervisor in a very large call center one of the first things we asked a new team member was how do you like to celebrate your birthday. Some wanted no attention to it whatsoever and others said go all out. But the number one thing people said was, "Don't give me balloons!" So proud of you! Now, why I have a fear of yellow I'll never figure out because I don't remember ever having a scary situation with it but it gives me anxiety and is what it is! LOL Oh and my little nephews threw me an all bright yellow birthday party last year, I just dealt with it as I have been facing it for awhile now. - MrsSchnooks

Thanks everyone!(: I had no idea so many people shared this same fear! It's nice to know there are other non balloonies out there, makes me feel less alone and less silly about it. Because I know for a fact, there is nothing really silly about it! Thanks for all the encouragement, and to Lola for inspiring me to face this :) I encourage you all, when you are ready of course, to try the same someday! Could be tomorrow, could be a few years from now, baby steps is all it is, but you feel huge when you confront it(: - AvidDisneyThrifter220

I remember when I was a kid a few days after I had the balloon it would like float around the house like there was a ghost especially looking into a mirror and then all of a sudden the ballon appears out of no where lol. - Joeam918

I don't have a fear of balloons, but I can't definitely relate to the anxiety and fear. Over the past few years, I've developed anxiety in confined spaces with other people. An elevator is fine if I am by myself or a couple more people. But if there are more than 3 people, or someone is touching or grazing me, I start panicking and getting anxious. Same thing goes for lines that are very close together, like parts of the line at Haunted Mansion or Matterhorn. It's a crippling fear, because I can't concentrate until I get out of there. I am trying to work through it, so I really admire your resolve to face your fear and your optimism of one day overcoming it! You can do it! :) - MariFICENT
