The politically incorrect characters of Disney's past... Brer Bear was out today and I heard kids comment that they did not know what character he was
I don't think Brer Bear was ever politically incorrect. Now, if Uncle Remus were walking around as a face character, maybe that would be an issue. - JustCantWait

What I meant by 'politically incorrect' was a reference to the original source for these characters; Uncle Remus Tales, which is profoundly policatlly incorrect today, but I see that you can find original copies of the books on the Internet. Strange that there are 'reissues' which have been rewritten.
"... In this four-book series, Julius Lester masterfully retains the flavor of the tales, while dropping the heavy dialect of the Harris originals and adding contemporary language and references-- ensuring that the stories will be understood and enjoyed by new generations of readers..." which I read as 'censorship' of the old black dialect style of the stories. Whatever your views are of these characters or the stories in general, they remain an 'obscure' set of characters in the Disney compliment of characters. - SteveGough
