Has anyone upgraded from a lower level pass to premium before their pass expired? Does Disney allow this? and do we just pay a pro-rated difference? Thanks.
The difference used to be prorated but not any more. It doesn't matter when you upgrade- yo pay the full difference between your current pass and the pass you're upgrading too. I asked a CM this question this past week so that I would know the answer when this question came up. - LilSterner

This is correct. Even if you upgrade the day before your pass expires you pay the whole difference. So if the pass you have was 100 and the one you want to upgrade to is 300, you would owe 200. The upgrade cost is not eligible for monthly payment plan - Pixarprincess 531.4 #215 4:59PM
Yup! That's the same answer I got when we bought our passes and were trying to decide which ones to get. - CAdreamer 97.1 #3071 5:08PM
This is right. I wanted to upgrade last year 2 months before my Deluxe pass expired and the cast member told me it wasn't worth it because of having to pay the full difference I just waited and went for Premium this time around - QueenBella 150.0 #2299 5:11PM

its not prorated and you have to pay the difference in full..You will have the same expiration date and You can not make payments on the upgrade amount - JollyRoger5

You just pay whatever the difference is between both passes upfront. Two years ago I renewed my Deluxe AP w/ parking and then upgraded it to a Premium the next month just because of the bigger discount for merchandise and no blackout dates. - KermitFan13

...and because the difference was like, $30. π - bluefairy 627.4 #174 4:42PM
LoL, yes. But I had to upgrade mine because it was blocked out two days out of four I was going to be there with friends and I didn't want to pay for a block out ticket those days. - KermitFan13 407.8 #321 4:51PM
$30 *is* less than $140. πππ - bluefairy 627.4 #174 5:45PM
If you upgrade to deluxe or premium you get $20.00 off the renewal price.. That's about I believe - MEHlanie_Mouse

And I'm getting this from the renewal letter my brother got. And I upgraded from Deluxe to Premium and did get 20.00 off - MEHlanie_Mouse 696.3 #143 5:08PM
I might have to downgrade from a deluxe to a SoCalπin April. Does that info page mention if any level gets the $20.00 saving if renewed early? Thanks - RadiatorSprings4Ever 138.1 #2480 5:22PM
Only deluxe and premium are eligible for the $20 discount. - bluefairy 627.4 #174 5:45PM
We tried to upgrade to premium 2 weeks before ours expired in August and there was no pro-rated discount. - Linzee

Hmm. so there must be a time limit. thanks for the info. - MrMom626 1571.3 #50 1:16PM
I don't think there's a time limit. They will gladly upgrade you at any time, I'm sure. - meridafan 1040.0 #83 2:02PM
You pay the difference as well as continue to pay your monthly charges if your doing a monthly plan. Also, thanks for reminding me I need to call the AP office about something later. - shadowgamer

Also, the expiration date remains the same, so it's really only worth it if you have quite a bit of time left till renewal or you have to pay for block out tickets anyway. - bluefairy
